Conversly, I'd say it's one of the best systems Nintendo has ever made, with easily one of their best and most diverse libraries of games, and anyone who isn't able to find enjoyment out of it probably needs a new hobby.

Between the current state of the Switch, Playstation 4/5 and PC gaming, I'd say this is the healthiest and most fun and creative the games industry has been for decades.

I think it's actually probably their best console ever if you include absolutely everything you can play on it such as all the remasters, ports, indies, virtual consoles, AND all the new stuff.

And I agree very much with the bolded. Anyone shit talking the Switch is showing their ass.

"Switch has no games" is one of the most ignorant things you could say as a gamer.

AC looks like the most boring game ever and 22mil people bought that shit? i would say Nintendo fans are suckers for buying this but i said it before and got a warning so i'm not saying it this time no sir

but i guess the no 3rd party support for Switch is working great for Nintendo

It's like Fortnite. It's for casuals. Females love it.

The Switch has been out for about half the time the PS4 has (just over 3 years vs almost almost years) and has sold more than half what the PS4 has sold. I'd say that is pretty good going. Indeed based on what I can find on Google, it seems like it took the PS4 around 4 years to sell 60 million (so a year longer than the Switch has taken). And some of those attach rates are insane (literally 11 in every 3 Switch owners has AC, Mario kart and Smash Bros, and almost that number have Pokemon and Zelda).

Well, launch aligned, NSW is around 1.5 mil. ahead of PS4. Of course, PS4 has 1 more holiday season.

I just realized we might looking into the future where Animal Crossing is the best selling game of the console. Even 6 month back I would never had even though of that.

AC is what? you plant and grow and trade shit? where is the game? this looks like the most boring shit ever created
but enjoy i guess
It is trash. I bought my sister a switch and AC for her bday.
I bought myself a switch for pokemon go. Also Trash. Also is Mario meant to be easy? I don’t remember SMB3 being easy.
Also bought one for my gf. I buy too many of these consoles and I consider myself a "hater".

I've held NTDOY for nearly a decade. I'm sick of their lackluster output. Consolidating handheld and console divisions my ass. I think tonight might just be the time to get out. I'm thinking on it. Contemplating. Hummmmm

The 10 best-selling first-party Switch titles are:
  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 26.74 million
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 22.4 million
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 19.99 million
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 18.60 million
  5. Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield – 18.22 million
  6. Super Mario Odyssey – 18.06 million
  7. Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! – 12.20 million
  8. Super Mario Party – 10.94 million
  9. Splatoon 2 – 10.71 million
  10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 7.44 million

Consider for a moment that Nintendo almost has ten straight first party games are 10 million sellers. 6 of them are, or round up to 20 million sellers.

I don't know if I've ever seen that kind of consistent performance out of a single publisher before.

It's like almost everything they make is a guaranteed multi-million seller, if not much, much more.

Nintendo might be in the healthiest place it's been since Nintendo 64. Yes, Wii and DS, but this seems like everything they make, not just the casual friendly games, is flying out the door.

Yeah in like the 16th Century. It's been donkey's years since handhelds came out. The Vita was doomed by a few factors and none of them were because of the lack of competition in the handheld space.

Microsoft like to copy people, so i'm suprised they haven't copied Nintendo this time.
MS knows they will lose the market. Sony failed multiple times to even get close to Nintendo's success.

We haven't even seen this kind of performance out of Nintendo before!

Its completely unprecedented, Nintendo are in a new golden period

They have their second launch "Nintendogs Moment" with Aninal Crossing and the hardware hasn't even got a price cut yet.

And we also have the matter of a certain Zelda sequel to come....

I will always stand by my opinion, that Nintendo will outlast both Sony and Microsoft in the video game business. They have the market cornered on developing games without crazy expensive budgets.

Nintendo are the kings, no question. Why anyone would let one business have 100% of the market is beyond me. Especially with Xcloud coming out, it's a no brainer. Imagine Gamepass on another 20-30 million devices
That is why MS is doing the Xcloud thing on mobile devices. They don't have to make a second system, it's just another reason to get xcloud/ gamepass. Im not saying it's impossible, but it will be hard as fuck especially with mobile devices already dominant in the market. You need some killer app games and ones that appeal to people easy to play on the go. That is where Sony failed. They tried to market it as "AAA games on the go".

I kind of agree, some games won't work while out and about, the PSP did alright though. I think there's call for it.

I just want another powerful handheld with remote play. The Vita is an awesome machine

I can't believe Sony or Microsoft haven't made a handheld to compete yet

One of the main issues with the Vita, in my opinion, was that the gaming media outlets were constantly making comparisons to PS3.

So you've got a great handheld but you've got a load of people saying "the graphics don't measure up to PS3". Which is obviously ridiculous.

Nintendo gets away with it because of indies and exclusives. Where comparisons are not really as relevant.
3DS was mostly getting it's own games and at worst remasters of older games.

Look at whenever a big-ish game comes to Switch and PS4 though.
Oh, the Switch version doesn't look as good...
Yeah, no shit.

For any Sony or MS handheld to work they NEED to have handheld only exclusive games that are of really high quality.
Instead they would likely offer smaller "spin off" games from their main series stuff or ports that end up suffering because of comparison to home console.

SwSh was fun for what it is, it never come to the point of disappointment realistically.
That means it will sell, just like Diamond and Pearl.

I think it was a huge disappointment personally, I replayed X and Y and Sun and Moon multiple times but didn't even bother with the post game in this one.

Sony could never compete in handheld market with Nintendo. Sony finally realized this despite the product being solid. The 3DS blew it out of the water in sales every time
I loved the PSP over any portable. Vita? Fuck Vita. Literally will never buy it because of the memory card and the charger.

Also... any device that doesnt have a USB-C port to charge, can go to hell.

I've not much to say to refute that, I guess the experience will varies per person. For example I've failed to finish SunMoon and never played XY, and we had tons of newcomers and Gen1 nerds getting it the bandwagon too for the first time in a while.

There are couple things I could applaud them though:
- Battles are faster and smoother than ever, I'm praying for a boost mode for the next entry. Everything else is faster too.
- A bigger Pokedex (not national) than is more than doable to complete and mostly catch-able ingame, the motivation to finish it up is higher in this one, and the expansions.
- You can kinda avoid battles and select Pokemon to battle with, that's already huge plus for me. Rare Pokemon is rare, so them hiding in the bushes is fair imo.

IDK I think it's an okay entry for the most part.

Haha. Weren't you crying about this exact same thing the last time Animal Crossing sales figures were shared?

"But it's the most boring game ever!"

I don't think it's so much that people are suckers. It's more that Animal Crossing appeals to many people in a very specific way.
I mean, I don't "get" it myself but I figure management games have always been popular so there must be something there that appeals to people.

I just found the language you used amusing. You sound like a mistreated husband who's come to the realisation he wants to walk out on his wife in the middle of the night.

Lol you're probably right. As a gamer, I'm mildly disappointed. As an investor, I'm pissed. Oh well.

"I DONT LIKE THIS GAME AND THEREFORE ITS SHIT"

There you go bud I fixed it for you. You're sounding very bitter about the game selling so well. Did you lose a bet?

Evergreen monsters for all of those AAA Nintendo games.

Nintendo's worst enemy in this year is the hardware production lines.

True, Nintendo could release nothing at all for the rest of the year and the Switch would still sell out, the console is a beast and shows no signs of slowing down.

You sound like such a fool fella, does it matter that Nintendo are doing well like Sony, surely it's a better video gaming market with different experiences.

Because they can't.

They don't have those type of pickup and play anywhere games that Nintendo specialise in.

League of their own.

PSP sold like 80 million units. It’s true though, it’s extremely hard to got to bat against Nintendo in the portable space. It will be interesting to see how Xcloud does. It’s unlikely it will get much traction but who knows.

COVID helped and it suits all demographics from kids to grannies. It also has a fixed camera and simple controls. It's defnitely a success for how pull marketing can work during times of extreme circumstance.

So the only reason the game sold well was the pandemic?, I think you are not giving Nintendo enough credit here.

That was impressive.

Sony just don't have those games where you can play anywhere and not feel like you are missing out on playing it at its best (Nothing wrong with that btw).

Microsoft? Yeah, whatever. I don't have much faith in xCloud.
