GAF's Nintendo Discussion, News, and Speculation |OT|

Has anyone played the Switch version of Warhammer 40K Mechanicus? I wonder about performance and controls. Any impressions from anyone here on GAF?

Miyamoto said Pikmin 4 was ready in like 2015.

He either lied, they cancelled it or Nintendo is arbitrarily holding it back.

Neither of these option please me, but welcome to 2020 Nintendo.

MOAR Brain Training and ports for everyone !!

It was fun Xenoblade discussion but I'm not sure I agree with most of the criticism of Xenoblade 2.

Yeah, I actually kinda like Xenoblade 2's combat more. I see it more as a rythm game of sorts with all the auto cancelling, cancelling of arts into each other, etc. Combat started to feel like it had a certain rythm, in a sense. Xenoblade 1's combat is still pretty good, but more on the standard "tick-tock/tab-targeting" side of things although I really liked the color-coordinated focus attacks. And regarding Future Connected: Thank fucking god that they did away with the affection system. It feels more natural to have the "moments" whenever you fulfill certain story related shit and not being arbitrarily gated by affection. Not sure about the Ponspectors for an all-out attack, though. However, I liked that you could choose what kind of benefit you wanted.

Storywise, however, I agree that Xenoblade 1's story feels more "mind-fucky", in a word. Although the reveals at the end of XB2 with regards to one person was pretty cool as well.
But I think it can be very well argued that Xenoblade 2 shows signs of being rushed and I hope that Monolith gets more time for Xenoblade 3 and/or whatever this new fantasy game will be.

Im actually with you I prefer xeno 2 over 1 in general to be honest I did play 2 first though so that might have something to do with it but yeah it’s a better game imo.

Now that you mention it. I played Xenoblade 2 first as well, so maybe I am also biased in that regard, lol.

When I first bought xeno 2 I played it and struggled to get into it I would say the first 15-30 hours are extremely difficult for new players it’s not the most inviting game but I persevered and it ended up being one of my favourite RPG’s of the generation.

On a side note when I say extremely difficult I’m referring to how player friendly the game is as opposed to the actually game difficulty.

I kind of hate when games media discuss Xenoblade. They either don't care much, like IGN, or just bitch about 2 excessively because of fanservice and not understanding the combat. Probably listen to this at work on Monday, but I'm not expecting much different.

You nailed it, they most complain how "too anime" the game is. I love original Xenoblade but I would say I really like chemistry the characters have with each other in 2nd game.
Same. 2 is slightly better in every way to me. I don't understand how they can have a problem with it being anime. You'd think the giant robots in the first game might have tipped them off that its supposed to be.
Edit: Oh, Ash from Gamexplain is there this week. That's an easy skip. Can't stand listening to that idiot.

I just checked out the list of games in 2020, Nintendo has published 10 titles this year, 8 if not counting free-to-play games, and 7 if you don't count eShop-only games. They might not be big games, but there are still quite a few. I don't know many other publishers of this size who publish as many games. To be fair, though. Usually they do publish more than that a year.

I expected more games out of Nintendo. I’m probably being unrealistic, but I had assumed we’d have, on average, more than one game a month. I don’t know where all of Nintendo’s resources are going.

Maybe the Switch is more difficult to develop games for than Nintendo originally thought. Maybe it’s been very time-consuming to make real HD assets. I don’t know, but I think it’s crazy that we don’t have another big Nintendo game ready for fall. It’s been three years since Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Xenoblade 2. Even if the Mario rumors are true, those games are ports. Where are the big, new games?

My take away from Nintendo this year is, “I don’t understand Nintendo.”

How long do you think it takes to make a game? More than one game a month would take quite a lot of dev teams.

I said I was probably being unrealistic. I just assumed we’d essentially have the same amount of games as both the 3DS and the Wii U. The games didn’t all have to be developed internally at Nintendo. I assumed there’d be third and second-party Nintendo published games. I just thought there would be more games.

Given Nintendo's been using Wii U ports to buy some time to make games, I am pretty surprised as well really.

We got Animal Crossing and Paper Mario but other than that....I guess they have struggled and this pandemic has just highlighted it worse.

At this point, I'm starting to think this is all bullshit and Nintendo just wants to ride the wave off of selling Animal Crossing for as long as they can.

"OH THOSE SILLY JAPANESE, THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER AT HOME"

WTF kind of excuse is that lol.

The Switch is getting console/Wii U type quality of games, the only problem is that 3ds is much easier and faster to make games for than an HD console like Switch, and it appears Nintendo isn't interested on making smaller portable friendly cheap games to fill schedules, like for example Pushmo or that armadillo game on 3ds.

I think they are giving their best, its just that resources and time required to make modern style games are much bigger. If anything they should have looked for more partnerships, heck they needed Tecmo to make the main FE f game for IS while they were developing Paper Mario, very different if we compare the developer output on 3DS and Wii U.

FE Awakening with dlc, FE FATES with dlc, Paper Mario 3ds,FE Echoes, Paper Mario Color Splash, new Ip on 3DS etc

These are all fair points, but Nintendo has been in business for a long time. They know what they need to do to keep their release schedule flush, but they haven't. For all the challenges they face, delivering games (and social engagement) is still their responsibility if they want to keep their momentum going.

They need to beef up their development capabilities, either through acquisitions or strategic partnerships. They've needed to do it for a while now, and the situation is only going to get worse as next gen raises the hardware minimum for future games making third party ports less and less likely.

Their best needs to include a corporate strategy that ensures they can deliver (IMO).

Anyone else starting to think the Mario 3D collection isn't real?

Because, I'm seriously doubting the whole fucking thing.

I think Sunshine is probably legit and wouldn't be surprised if Grezzo is making it. I'm skeptical of Galaxy though. How are they going to integrate the motion controls for picking up the star piece thingies?

I don't think Galaxy 2 will happen because Yoshi's tongue attack which is a gameplay mechanic was controlled by motion controls.

You know the joycons can do motion control right?

I have my doubts too.

If it were real then I think we would have heard some announcement by now.

The thing is that there comes a point where rumoured games with no official announcement are rumoured for so long that they would have been released if they existed.

A constant issue with Switch rumours is that Nintendo has a history of remaking and remastering games (wind waker and twighlight Princess from GC too WiiU, Luigis mansion from GC to 3DS, Xenoblade from Wii to Switch) and in the Switch era a ton of WiiU games have come to Switch.

So basically pick any WiiU game that hasn't yet arrived on switch and you've got a very believable rumour. Take any Wii or GC game that hasn't already gotten the HD remaster treatment and you've got a somewhat believable rumour.

Metroid Prime Trilogy has been a rumour for so long that Nintendo has literally had time to notice the rumour, decide that is something that fans want, conclude that it would sell well and then start developing the game.

It seems to me that the new Paper Mario just kind of came out of nowhere. Nintendo announced it and gave a release date and this was our first glimpse of the game. So if they kept that so quiet then how come these games rumoured for years even managed to leak out?

How could you know that a "leak" isn't just an educated guess?

Unfortunately as the weeks go by it seems like we won't be getting too much from Nintendo this year.

So I’m currently playing SOR4, BOTW and Mario Wii U Deluxe Penis on the Switch and Divinity 2 on the pc and thought I’d add Final Fantasy 7 to the mix - I got it on the PC shortly before getting the Switch and double dipped when I saw it cheap as the Switch seemed a better fit. I just did the first exploding stuff mission and... am I an ecoterrorist? Is that who I am? There was talk of innocent lives lost and well honestly I’m not sure playing as XR with guns is the most moral thing in the world. Someone reassure me that it’s not so!

Alright, my predictions for mini partner direct.

It will be feature mainly Square Enix games with one first party title tease.

-Bravely Default 2 release date
-Octopath sequel reveal
-Dragon Quest VIII HD port reveal

I’d take that for Dragon Quest.
