Formula 1 Season 2020 |OT| Drive to Survive 2 - who drinks champagne from a shoe?

Todt, whose actress wife Michelle Yeoh is Chinese, says racism affects more than just black people.

"Lewis feels strongly about racism. It is a cause dear to him," the FIA president, who says he understands why some drivers do not kneel, said.

"People are different," said the Frenchman. "Some are loud, others put their case quietly. But we all aim for the end of racism.

"I say life matters. Lives matter. Not just black lives. Or yellow lives. Or white lives. All lives," Todt added.

CANCEL THIS EVIL RACIST NOW! :messenger_pouting: /s

Some common sense from the higher ups finally?

I didn't know this thread existed. I've been trying to get back to following the sport, I could watch the last race and it was pretty enjoyable. That Netflix series really made me interested again. I grew up watching Senna doing his shit, just to contextualize.

Think I got a little spoiled with that triple header. Probably going to watch the 2019 Great Britain GP in the meantime.

I've just discovered F1 TV opened access to Pro subscription in my country. Bought one month for testing and rewatched the last Hungarian GP. I must say, it's a great service. Watched 20 minutes of racing from Verstappen perspective listening to his team radio (almost every lap they tell the driver to switch something on the steering wheel, it's insane!), replayed the start several times from different onboard cameras.

And there is the huge archive of old races too!

I watched races on RTL before trying to understand German, and this is a completely new level to me.

I wonder, does they plan to provide 60 fps broadcast?
How does this service work live on race days? Was there any problems, downtime, disconnects?
Can I watch replays during the live race if I want to?

Nurburgring, Portimao and Imola have all been officially announced. I'm loving this year's European season.

Imola? Fuck yeah. Fucking lovely little track, even the modern version. I'm utterly terrible at it, but it's gorgeous.

Will be interesting to watch pilots learn unfamiliar tracks, that's the situation when the real talents shine.
I don't think it'll be that bad, all these tracks are available in simulators. Learning a track like Baku was definitely harder because of no source material and the track being unforgiving because of the city circuit structure.

Just signed up this season myself. Pretty cool service. It’s good as a new fan I can catch all of the older races.

I totally forgot about simulators here, but in the end it's all about this little details like small bumps and surface grip nuances. Should be more driver mistakes during the weekends, especially Friday practice.

Yep - Max and Lando are iRacing regulars so they'll have been racing laser-scanned Imola* in their spare time for fun for instance.

* the laser scans really are that good - I went to Silverstone and then Donington to throw Caterham R300s around at high speed. I'd never driven a race car of any kind and never even visited the tracks, let alone driven on them, but my time on iRacing and Assetto Corsa (iRacing's version of Silverstone was too old at that time but Assetto Corsa had Silverstone in a decent version) - I arrived on track and caned it straight away doing Copse at 100mph, hitting 135 down Hangar, etc. At Donington, my 2nd time in the car, first on the track, scared the shit out of a mate in the car by going out balls-out from the get-go. I was murdering Ferraris on the corners though they got me on the straights, but more importantly I destroyed the cunts in the R600 which had twice the power. These simulators really are fucking awesome.

Imola will probably be the toughest one, because it's going to be a 2 day weekend only. So it's probably going to have only one practice session and qualifying taking place on the same day.

For setting up the car certainly, for drivers it likely won't make much odds given the laser scan is in so many sims these days.

Yeah I meant the teams having a very limited window for finding a good setup without having any data from previous year. Not to mention if it's even worse and it rains during practice - one can only hope. ;)

Verstappen is so impressive and still very young. I hope he ends up with a very good car at some point. He's the one giving us a show so far

This track selection is wild, I'm quite enjoying a ssason where the the FIA has basically hit the 'Randomise' button on the season calender.

Just finished Drive to Survive season 1, I loved loved it. Not that I missed them a lot, but was there a legal reason why they didn't show much of Mercedes and Ferrari? Or they just didn't want to participate?

They didn't want to participate, but they were convinced to change their minds and they're in season 2.

Damn, such a shame for him with finally having a great car and being uncertain about his future in F1 as it is. But yeah, most important thing is that he'll go through it mildly.

Did he return to Mexico after the Hungarian GP? The situation in there is probably bad just like in the rest of the Americas. Easier to catch this thing.

BBC story suggesting they could get Hulkenburg in as the replacement. It would be cool to see Hulk get a chance to get a podium in a competitive car.

He did not isolate. Had to do some meetings to get a F1 seat for 2021, idiot. Now he will lose a minimum of 6 races. Its over for him.

From what I read he was seen in a restaurant in Mexico City taking pictures with fans after he went back home. Pretty dumbass thing to do. I mean I understand not wanting to feel like a prisoner during the entire season, but there are ways of spending free time that limit interactions with random people to a minimum.

GIVE THE HULK A CALL.

Best shot at a podium he's ever had, just when he thought it was all over :messenger_grinning_sweat::messenger_grinning_sweat:
Hell yes, I'm hoping for his comeback. Better to have Mr. P4 rather than Mr. P11. ;)

Shame, I did not expect such an irresponsible behavior from Serhio. Closely communicate with fans in Mexico, where virus is on a peak. What was he thinking about?

I've read there is a possibility for George Russel to drive second RP car this weekend, and THAT would be interesting to see.

His mum had had an accident. Can kind of understand why he went home. Sounds like he went to a restaurant, which is a bit silly, but definitely feel for him if his mum was in a bad state. It's normal to go out for dinner when you're stressed to get out of the house and take your mind off it.

Glad THE HULK is going to be driving for the next two weekends!

Yeah that's a good explanation on why he returned to his home country instead of staying in UK.

It's going to be a big warning sign for other teams and they'll probably want to have more control over where their drivers go during the longer breaks between race weekends.

Mercedes again in the league of their own. :( Lewis a full second ahead of Max in Q3. At least the McLaren boys have done well and hopefully they'll both finish in the points tomorrow.

Vettel 0.9s slower than Leclerc. But he’s not completely busted, honest.

I really thought Bottas would get it after Lewis spun. I'm glad I was wrong.

As someone who just got back to following the sport, what's going on with Haas?

I believe the main problem is they currently have a shit car and shit drivers. That tends to lead to piss-poor performance.

They were good when they were basically a Ferrari B team in their first year in F1. Couldn't develop their own car since then, especially with their tiny budget and manpower (having mediocre drivers and sticking with them each year also doesn't help). I will be surprised if Haas is in F1 next year.

Where can I get a TL;DR on what I missed? I was looking forward to my first full season and just assumed it was cancelled and haven't kept up but that seems to have been a mistake.

Can really just start watching with the British GP race tomorrow. There’s only been three so far this season.

I'd really recommend watching the first Austrian GP if you can, it was very eventful and enjoyable to watch.
