The Faux “diversity” of TLOU2 (story/character spoilers)

^ This.

The story is what it is. I've read a lot and watched a lot of fairly detailed critiques of the game and its abundantly clear that there's a lot wrong with the game in terms of its narrative, structure and pacing for many people. Personally I found a lot of aspects incongruous to the post-apoc setting that constantly broke immersion. Even simple stuff like Ellie & Dina finding that recently dead dudes secret weed farm for instance, as if somehow in the post-apocalypse growing weed would need to be discreet. Does Jackson operate a no drugs policy or something? It's a small thing, but there's just no sense that Druckmann really mentally escaped either the past or the present to truly put himself into the setting in terms of character mindset versus simply use it as background wallpaper with modern mores thrown on top and in that regard a lot of problems arise.

Or he was just hiding the weed from others. Hiding weed from others is totally believable in a post-apocalyptic world.

I got the impression that Maria who runs the place frowns upon weed which might be why he hid it. Ellie and Dina make a comment about that.

I find it hard to fathom that someone who was probably a teenager/early 20s in 2013 when the world went to shit would somehow turn into such a raging puritan 25 years later that. There's a certain anachronism that runs through all of the older characters that just doesn't smack of a generation from now, 25 years older, with all these antiquated values. Same deal with the 'Bigot Sandwiches' dude.

To make Ellie and Dina look a bit like air heads, smoking weed and fooling around while on patrol. 👀

Weren't they stuck in there?

There was a blizzard but that didn't stop Jesse from still doing his duty.

Well one presumes that in between them getting lit and doing the deed, things settled down.
Which is them being in dereliction of duty when they're not ready to continue the patrol the moment the blizzard stopped and someone like Jesse needs to remind them.

I guess we missed the scene where they got court-marshalled. Maybe it will feature in some DLC 🤔

Air heads because they decided to stay away from the blizzard?

Riiight. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
They were messing around long enough for someone else to find them messing around. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

If the blizzard had subsides like Kadayi speculates, that makes things look even worse for them. "pie_tears_joy:

I'm sure people know exactly how long a blizzard is suppose to last while in a basement.

I'm also sure people don't screw around while on patrol when something unexpected happens. I'm sure people don't do this stuff in real life all the time./s lol

Yeah, don't be on the look out for when blizzards subside in a world where clickers and other humanoid dangers exist, don't take patrolling seriously by getting intoxicated. :messenger_ok:

If they wanted to smoke weed that badly, the responsible thing would've been to take some with them to smoke when off duty. :lollipop_grinning:

Jesse is a nice guy and you know how those end up. 👀

I suspect Jessie was probably smoking some weed on the side himself, given how chill he is that the woman he was seeing before decided to go to Girl Town after having broken up with him at best a couple of weeks before. I mean when you're living in a small community you're dating options probably aren't that great, and that's not going to be a good look for you. 🤔

Be on the look out during a blizzard?

I know you tired to find "bad writing" in this scene, but it failed.

Let's look at the scene and how it played out.

- A blizzard started.

- Ellie lost sight of Dina, which tells you that it would be dangerous to be on the look out DURING a blizzard when your vision is obscured.

- This means you're more prone to being attacked by an infected when you will have trouble seeing them and hearing them.

- Ellie's horse didn't like being in a blizzard and that's why you can her talking to her horse to calm him down.

- Realistically, no one is going to sit for hours just to watch the blizzard until it subsides.

- A small amount of weed is not the same thing as drinking heavily during a job.

But yeah, lets go with you suggested. Go out on patrol during a blizzard, which is far more dangerous. :messenger_tears_of_joy: (y)

I don't think it's bad writing if it's meant to show that Ellie and Dina are a bit irresponsible. "pie_tears_joy:

Yeah, latch on the "go patrol during a blizzard" which I never said. "pie_tears_joy:

They weren't on the look out for the blizzard to subside, to see if anything else approached the house. They got caught by surprise due to their own negligence which is a very dangerous thing in the world they live in. So don't act so surprised if I allude to Ellie and Dina being sloppy and careless in that situation. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

Umm, you said it didn't stop Jesse from doing his duty.
You're assuming it was doing patrol while there was a blizzard, which suggest that you think they should have been doing the same thing.

I was under that impression but then Kadayi speculated that the blizzard had settled down. If that's the case then who knows how long Jesse was out there looking for help till he came across Ellie and Dina. They wasted time they could've been out patrolling and maybe encountered Jesse sooner? If the blizzard hadn't settled down, then that still makes Jesse look more committed to his patrol duties than Ellie and Dina.
