First of all, I am going to begin contradicting my post saying that I wouldn't want a Part 3. I think TLOU is Joel en Ellie's story, and they are both done. However, we all know that money talks, and seeing hoy Part 2 broke every sales record for SIE, they could "force" Naughty Dog to make a sequel.

With that said, I think I only want two things to happen:

1) I would like Abby and Lev to return.
It could be logical that the story would follow both as they reach the firefly post. I think they are the parallel of Joel and Ellie dynamic.

2) Ellie to give her life for a cure.
In Part 2, Ellie lost everything. I've read that many people have considered that she just got back to Jackson. However, I think it would be difficult to go back since she had a problem with Tommy and also Dina. I know they said Abby's dad was the only one who could make a vaccine, but maybe they just find someone else.

Ellie would finally get her wish to save the world (probably not successfully since all the implications that a vaccine can cause), but since she doesn't have anything to lose anymore, she would give her life for a greater cause.

Those are the only things that occurs to me right now about a sequel, hence I don't want one.

I wouldn't want Ellie to be redeemed, because she deserved to lose everything. The game ended in a very bad note for her, but she got herself in that situation because she didn't know how to quit. Had she stayed with Dina, she would've made a great life for her.

Many people dislike Abby, but she is far from being the bad guy. Everyone is a bad guy in somebody's eyes. However, she knew avenging her dad didn't accomplish anything for her, so she tried to move one (which Ellie couldn't). Both were unsuccessful at their own revenge, and both paid a very high price for it.

Playing as her and/or Lev in the next game, could be interesting in a way to see their relationship develop.

I don't really know where the story should go from here. The game can diverge to different people in the same world, but it would feel like spin offs. So other than trying to find a doctore to develop a vaccine, and somehow get to convince Ellie to give up her life to do it, I can't think of what else they can do with this franchise.

So what would you want for Part 3? Do you want Ellie redeemed? Do you want Abby to return? Do you want Ellie to actually get to kill Abby for good? Please tell.

I'd rather them just go the route of new stories with new characters. Anything you liked about 2 they'll shit on anyways in a part 3 like they did from 1 to 2 so they may as well just be all brand new anyways.

Dream scenario: Bill's story.

A Tommy and Joel prequel could be interesting. I have no interest in the future adventures of Abby/Lev and little interest in seeing more of Ellie.

Ellie gets killed by Dina's baby and then we play as Abby's abs ( literally ) and it's a revenge story but plot twist Joel is alive and reveals he was trans all along and in a secret relationship with Lev.
Lev then commits suicide because plot twist Lev is actually a transphobe.

I want to play Abby except more ripped and a buzz cut. I don't want to play Ellie at all. I want Abby to kill Ellie at the start of the game. I want to play as Lev as well.

I think that in order to balance the series out they should have an all-male main cast next time. The women can get shot suddenly, killed with no fanfare, tortured with a golf club, have their husbands insult them and leave them, be generally demeaned, and be relegated to the side as ineffectual next time.

i would love for them to expand into other areas of the world somehow, even if it means having a new cast.

i loved abby's whole story, so that to me basically tells me that this series can work with other characters,

generally speaking, the last of us is never really just about Joel and Ellie to me, it's about humans and the choices they make in this tough world.

so they do a new cast, they should call it The last of us 2. Since it's a new installment of The Last of Us Franchise.

The Last of Us Part 2 is called Part 2 because it's part to Ellie and Joel's story.
SO if they do a new cast, it should just be The last of us 2.

I have no idea what direction to go in if they go back to ellie's story. She probably has some redeeming to go through.
More adventures with abby and lev would be cool. they actually talked at one point about how they wanted to go to Europe.

All in all, idc what they do next with the franchise as long as it's Naughty Dog quality and they make it worthwhile. I'm very much ready for whatever is next! I can't get enough of this world and it's characters! And there's certainly much more to it that be done!!

SIE doesn't force Naughty Dog's hand, so TLOU3 won't be made unless Naughty Dog really wants it to be made.

Like you, I don't want TLOU3, I would much prefer that ND moved on. If they did make it, I wouldn't want it to just be a continuation of the story. I'd like something fresh and interesting like TLOU2 was.

Thing is, they explored the themes of the overall franchise pretty comprehensively with both games. I'm a fan of Naughty Dog so I'll be looking forward to whatever they make, but I'll admit I'll be partly disappointed if it's just TLOU3.

I think if they do a part 3 , it will be a similar gap in time before they release it as with 1 and 2 .

I would assume we get The Rattlers seeking revenge on ellie for the events of the ending as we did Abby on Joel for the events of TLOU. We also need to see what happened to Abby and Lev when they made it to the fireflies (if they even exist and it wasnt a radio operative working for the rattlers to trap people). I think with those two main plot points they have enough to work with for a part 3.

I think they should try and move away from Jackson and the characters left there though as for me they were some of the weaker aspects of Part 2. Dina not waiting for Ellie and Tommy being pissed that ellie let Abby go will probably come back too.

Full reboot, as in ditch all the characters left alive and give me someones entirely new perspective of the situation be it from the time society collapsed or from their current "present".

It's what TLOU2 should've been IMO.
That is what Druckmann called "the cowards approach" pre TLOU2 launch

They already shat on the first game with part 2, so there’s nothing to lose with next installments.

Making a game with Abby and Lev as the protagonists would be a suicide, though. I don’t think Cuckmann is that crazy or delusional to not see the enourmous backlash that would bring. I would enjoy the utter madness that would bring, but realistically the Abby & Lev story should end in a DLC.

A DLC in which Abby dies protecting Lev or something like that.

Storywise I finished Part II feeling utmost indifference towards every character in the cast so I wouldn't mind it if they skip Part III. I'm more interested in Factions, I hope we get a worthy continuation of the first part's multiplayer.

Part 2 shouldn’t even have existed, let alone a Part 3

Some IPs shouldn’t have sequels. The Joker movie is another example of this; a sequel is unnecessary, and if it ever gets one, it’ll probably be bad.

I want new stuff from ND, more innovation, new mechanics, etc

I voted No as I greatly dislike both games but I could just as easily vote yes for 100 more if it meant continued trolling of the ratings, the reactions were downright hilarious

Ladies and gentlemen.
i present to you
The last of us Part II ... The other side.

You will control at a parallel time in the elapsed events of the second game with Joel, who has somehow survived the encounter with Abby, and now he is the controllable character !!!!

Not only that, Joel in his thirst for "Vengeance" will face Abby in the ultimate duel of death.

I raise the game with Joel's face on its cover and everyone screams .. YEEEEEEIIIIIIII !!!!!

I don't think part 2 was really needed especially after having played it. Why would someone need part 3 is a mystery to me.

Love the first one, the second is awesome and easy one of the best games in years.

But the story is over.

Btw Following the game logic Elly is dead (super random death, falling from a cliff, headshot, etc )

It needs to be Ellie. This is and always has been Ellies story - she is the cure, the most integral character

I liked Abby but that story arc is closed. She and Lev have no purpose in the larger narrative beyond their relationship to Ellie

If the first game was love, the second game was hate, revenge, forgiveness then the third game needs to be redemption

Maybe it's a 30 year old Ellie with a 10 year old JJ. What the redemption story is, I dont know.

A Louisiana or Florida setting could be amazing. Swamp setting is a match made in heaven for TLOU aesthetic.

It's obvious Abby and Lev reach Santa Catalina and Neil wanted to continue the story there. In fact, there's an entire Santa Catalina plot that was scrapped from the final game.
They left it with the boat arriving in Santa Cantalina, with the suggestion being they made it to the Fireflies. Thats all their goals complete

I could see an expansion maybe but after that point why follow them? Literally their whole story is wrapped up, especially if they've found the Fireflies.

Meanwhile Ellies ending is left a lot more open for continuation. Ellie walks off to the sunset, the audience is left wondering what is next for her

the first game was so good on its own. Ellie didn’t get the ability to kill her loved one; she tried but couldn’t and in the process Part II is a beautiful story about revenge closure and pain. Great... you did it ND, now redeem the character.

give us a male character, a black person, or even Lev. Make it the quest to find Ellie and obviously make Ellie a playable part. You could do somewhere like Louisiana or wherever and the arc of the story has to be Ellie is going for a cure. She’s to broken now and needs redemption. Whether that is a cure or a realization that she is best alone, then great.

I like Abby but also find it hard to forgive her. If she’s a firefly maybe she can give her life freely towards the cause or redeeming Ellie.

It would be great if it wasn’t the Fireflies but instead another Rattlers camp and Fat Geralt’s brother just learned of his demise. His brother would be like The Mountain.

I feel is actually the opposite. Ellie has reached the conclusion that revenge bad and is finally accepting Joel's death, so she returns home to have a normal life with Dina. Her story is pretty much finished, we don't need to see how she reconciliates with Dina and it's hinted she already is living with her again.

Eh, I didnt take that. I took it as Dina promised she wouldn't be around for Ellie anymore and she held to that. Maybe they reconcile, or maybe Ellie goes and starts a new life somewhere not tied to her past. It was left open enough to do whatever they want in the next game - Ellie is a bit of a blank slate

I like the idea of Ellie trying to find the fireflies herself to sacrifice herself for the cure.

I want to see more from Abby and Lev as well.

I would also like some kind of prequel with Tommy and Joel in their shitty smuggler/hunter days. Or a game that leads to their falling out.

Totally agree with this. For me, Ellie got a great ending in 2 and I don't want that character to suffer anymore, which would inevitably happen in TLOU3 if she was the main character.

Abby and Lev game is the logical place to explore next.

First and foremost, remove Halley Gross from writing part 3. I wonder, what were they thinking of hiring a "series writer" to become a video game writer? Did she play any of the earlier naughty dog games? I somehow feel like most of the events was because she had a lot of influence in the part 2 story. Drunkmann was probably focused on the actors.

Cuckmann hinted at Ellie being back with Dina in some podcast.

I don't think Ellie is a blank slate at all, we have already seen her protagonize two games and her story is pretty much said and done. The only thing she has left to do is maybe sacrifice herself for the chance of finding a cure.

A third game in which Abby tries to carry the legacy of her father and convince Ellie to sacrifice herself for a cure, but Ellie is reluctant because she is now living a good happy life, makes more sense. It would be a good excuse to actually have a conversation between them.

It'd be interesting if Lev and Abby joined the Fireflies. Since the Fireflies know Abby's dad and chapter were working on a cure in Salt Lake, Abby could play a role in recovering data files, equipment, and talent in order to progress a cure. This can be more interesting in a couple ways: Abby knows a cure requires someone with immunity, like Ellie, but she is hesitant to seek her out or reveal to the Fireflies that she exists due to the pair's complicated history. For plot sake, lets say she keeps this information hidden, but her and Lev are able to help progress the cure by creating a vaccine that slows the rate of infection.

Here's where it gets interesting: Lev gets bit on an equipment supply run and the Fireflies inject him to slow the infection. Abby and co. are dismayed, as they know it's just a matter of time until he turns. So, out of desperation, Abby reveals the existence of Ellie and takes it upon herself to find her in order to produce a cure.

Now, picking up Ellie's story after Part II, who has forgiven Joel and understood Abby (but not fully forgiven), we find her back in Jackson as somewhat of a social outcast. Tommy is upset that she didn't commit to revenge against Abby once he inquires about the outcome of her trip to Santa Barbra. Maria is upset that Ellie let revenge consume herself and Tommy. And Dina still has love for Ellie, but she cannot forgive her for abandoning her and JJ. Ellie quickly comes to realize that while she has come to peace with a lot of things, there is no place for her in Jackson. Who wants to be the pariah of a small, isolated community? So Ellie wants to reclaim her image and become a beacon of hope for desperate people. She wants to make her life mean something instead of living the passive existence gifted to her by Joel. So she sets out to explore the country and try to do some good.

Picking back up with Abby, she arrives at Jackson and scopes out the place trying to see if Ellie is there. She enters the community in disguise and finds out that Ellie is no longer there. While she is there Tommy recognizes her and she flees Jackson in a hurry.

Picking back up with Ellie, she keeps running into communities but finds herself still an outcast. No one accepting her, having no purpose. She just continues looking for a hint of where she can fit in. Essentially, she travels all up and down the West Coast but no luck.

Pan back to Abby, she is being hunted by Tommy and some friends while picking up Ellie's scant trail. After a bit of being hunted she finds Ellie in Boston, visiting the mall in which Riley and her were bitten. She turns around and she see Abby, and she is filled with a mix of anger and embarrassment. She lashes out and demands to know why she is here. Then Abby makes her case: She tells Ellie that she wanted to avoid her, but she needs her help. She talks about Lev's situation, but she is still unwilling to help. Abby then mentions that Ellie's sacrifice could save humanity. Ellie doesn't answer, but then they are attacked by a bunch of infected and Abby saves her life. Ellie then agrees to back to the Fireflies and finish what she and Joel had started in Part 1. She still holds animosity for Abby but agrees to travel back with her because she wants meaning and recognizes this is the opportunity she was looking for.

Making their way across the country, the pair grow beyond understanding and to some degree forgive one another. They still aren't best of friends; it's a cold relationship. Eventually, Tommy catches up with the pair and takes his revenge on Abby. Ellie is a bit distraught and doesn't know what to do. She curses Tommy and decides to complete the mission to save Lev herself, fully forgiving Abby and realizing that this cycle of violence has to stop.

In the end, Ellie meets up with the Fireflies and she gives her life to make a cure. Returning meaning to her life and making it all mean something.

That's what I came up with really quick.

Ellie. Abby. New character.

A few years later. None of them run into each other or clash, expand the series further. Like Sub_Level Sub_Level said the American South hasn't been tapped into yet that and the canyon type of areas of the states.

The problem I see is that you turn into a zombie pretty fast after being bitten. Abby wouldn't have any possibility of saving Lev, it's impossible for her to find Ellie, convince her, bring her to the fireflies and develop a cure before Lev transforms.

I mean sooner or later humanity might vanquish if the Fireflies or someone else doesn't create a cure. So Part 3 might be about Ellie trying to reach the Fireflies. I don't even know if she will go back to Jackson. It wasn't clear at the end (for me at least).

idk, it's a plot device. didn't give it too much thought. who's to say it doesn't slow the infection down by months? it's all fiction after all.

No, I don't want a part III anymore. I was playing the best game until Seattle Day 3/Ellie then I hated it.

I beg them to never bring back Abby and Lev. I hope they are dead at Catalina.

That Ellie they made at the end of part II? She can die too. I don't care anymore about her.

They can make a prequel about Tommy and Joel if they don't want to bury this franchise yet. This I would buy Day 1.
