Someone tag OP post spoilerish as shit...looked into the tweet and bam, apparently right on the second comment I got spoiled with the ending. Fantastic.

Remember that not all of us have played the game yet.

Wait, people are assholes and say shitty things on social media? When did that start happening?
I thought it was since the first bulletin board opened where people signed in using a shitty 300 baud modem 40 years ago.

But apparently anyone associated with LoU 2 seems to be reacting as if internet trolling has been going on for only two months when the first story leak happened.

What unoriginal basic hate comments. Same old kind of insults. You can literally see the people in their display picture - they aren't even hiding "behind the computer"................brave of them. There's probably a long list of insults and critiscm to point out about them too....... ugly fraggles

Honestly, shit like this just makes me sad.

I know its a tiny minority who send stuff like this, but for the love of all that is holy what's with all the people handwaving this off?

How deep must you be invested in the retarded "culture war" that you don't immediately condemn messages like those?

What the fuck is wrong with you?

This is beyond hating the GAME. There are literal death threats and wishing death upon 2 year old children. (Laura Baileys kid)
Yeah and people still don't know the difference between not liking a movie or game and attacking and insulting somebody on the internet. And then there are some posters here that just wave away all of this aggression because he should know better or act like they deserve it. They themselves don't even know they are part of this problem. It's funny in a way.

Seems somebody wants a pity party. You saw the other girl get hate and left your shit open. So you got what you asked for.

The Druckmann is immunized against all dangers: one may call him a scoundrel, parasite, swindler, profiteer, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call him a ___ and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: "I've been found out."

People defending this saying it happened before so it's okay to harass now. It's ironic as the message of TLOU2 is about breaking the cycle of hate.

How about taking a stand against sending death threats to people and stamping this shit out? I'm not saying you can't criticise anything, just don't make it personal.

For sure Druckmann isn't happy to receive those messages to prove it's point, nono.
I like even how he puts hands forward and says "share your thoughts", too bad to know that you can't talk about it, without getting labeled as something by some sort of life. Infact, on the long run, those "report" messages, what's are going to do to the brain of those people, is to somehow connect you, with a valid critique, to this people, who are sending death threats and such. Nice job, 10IQ tactics really, like the plot of the game.

Is anybody saying the second part of bolded? People are saying the first but pretty sure nobody is saying the second.

The second part follows the first. Some posters here laughing off death threats or complaining about people for exposing the sick shit people are sending them. Recently a woman received a death threat for her toddler because someone didn't like her portrayal of a video game character.

These things need to be taken seriously. I doubt Druckmann sending a tweet was trying to drum up sales or the death threats shouldn't be taken seriously. Do we wait until we have an employee killed before people take it seriously. Because we don't stand up against this hate, this is the reason gamers get a bad reputation.

The only way to curb hate speech is if social media sites required you to sign up using your phone number and passport number. But then all those who don't want governments or companies tracking you and knowing your details will have a breakdown. You can't keep everybody happy.

Then they don't have a voice. Even better.

They shouldn't be taken seriously.

The amount of dumb shit said on social media vs. real life criminal activities that come from a comment is probably a smaller chance than getting zapped by lightning.

That's like me saying I'm going to find you and kill you. Are you really going to be pissed? Or will you just laughed it off and ignore as another dumb forum post?

Why be so afraid at words?

Or just stop policing any speech that's not a real and acute threat of physical violence and not some pseudo intellectual extrapolation of it. We need to curb pseudo intellectual extrapolations having any lawful power.

How does the second part follow the first, exactly? I’m not really seeing it.

I don't see how these things need to be taken seriously. Either I missed the tweet where Neil said he's filed police reports about all these very credible death threats, or he's not taking it as seriously as you seem to think he should be.

And I don't think I need to "stand up against this hate," either. It's common sense that doing shit like this is childish and stupid, nobody needs to hear me say it. I don't give a shit about the reputation of "gamers," either, didn't you hear gamers died in 2014?

The fact that you can't even read what he said shows how you're probably one of these people. They have nothing against someone not liking the game. All of this crap is nothing but vile comments.
I read them, none of them were anything I'd shit my pants over like that.

This is gamergate all over again and people wonder gamers have such a bad image. If people don't like a game a mature person just moves on and doesn't play it. No game will ever justify this kind of response and nothing he or anybody who has worked on this game has done has invited this. Plenty of other games have disappointed people and they aren't used as a culture war battleground like this.

That's because in other game franchises where one game gets grilled, it's due to things like bad gameplay or too many microtrans or the shooter sucks because it only has 8 maps when older games had 12.

LoU 2's biggest criticism is Druckmann messing with the story and infusing politics/virtue signalling into it. Battlefield V was the same.

But he didn't even do that. He went a direction that some fans of the original didn't like and while it worked like a charm to me I understand why some wouldn't take to it. That is it. It is not an SJW propaganda game and even if it was in no way does it justify sending messages that would belong on stormfront. Legitimate criticisms of the game are getting lost in this crap. The game has gay and one trans character. If that justifies what is happening then I don't know what to say.

Welcome to the culture you create. When you encourage people getting piled-on for ideas you don't like, don't be surprised when people do the same do you for the ideas they don't like.

What an insanely stupid ass comment

Also some pathetic human beings in this thread. How you can excuse this behaviour is beyond me. You can not like what a human being did, but wishing stuff like this to someone or even "being okay" with it, is fuckin vile.
Some of you need to take a step back and think before you write. There's human beings with feelings on the other side.

There's a lot more SJW/virtue signalling in the game than simply playing through it with a gay and trans character like any other character in a game.
I don't believe there is but even if there was move on and play the game you do want to play. There is no justification for this. Healthy people do not react this way to a piece of entertainment that they don't like.

Can someone explain to me why he would go out of his way to remove the names? Same with Laura, she did the same. Protected the names of people who threatened to kill her child.

It just looks like a quick and dirty photoshop to me. And now no one can verify if it's true or not. We just have to accept that these victims of hate really are the victims.

So now the people who said those things are safe and can't be dealt with and Druckman gets his easy victimhood points :pie_thinking:

The difference is a death threat to me compared to one at Neil Druckmann/Laura Bailey is that I'm a fictional character who died at the end of Robocop. Everyone knows where Neil Druckmann works. You could possibly do a quick Google search and get the exact address. You could get additional information and and up following him home. Do you see where this could go? Now if Evilore sent me a death threat I would shit my pants as he has personal information about me whereas you wouldn't.

It's just people need to grow up mentally. Co-creator of game ruined my enjoyment of game, must send anti-semetic comment/death threat to him.

By trying to rationalise that it's okay/expected for death threats to happen as they happened before, you are giving the unhinged an licence to do it in the future.

How do we know which death threat should be taken seriously or not? I imagine he has informed his employer of all threats against him, who would discuss it with the police. I was on about people trying to diminish death threats and making jokes about it.

Also common sense is not common. Unfortunately it never was.

The thing is that most famous people get messages like this. It's just one of those shitty things that comes with the job. Crying about it won't make it magically go away.

Imagine if someone like Trump posted one of these every time people sent him hate mail :messenger_grinning_smiling:

The problem with game employees is that they want to be so social with gamers on social media and forums, they can't take it when some people criticize or make fun of them, even when it's literally like only 1% of responses that are agitating.

If you can't hack it, then set your social media settings on private.

The vast majority of us on this forum have nothing to do with games. We all work at totally different kinds of companies. Lets say all the VPs and CEOs at your company suddenly got hit with a bunch of people insulting them on Twitter, I bet they won't give a shit. They'll just block the user. You know they aren't going to get into Twitter battles or have the other execs support them with ego boosting tweets back. In general, nobody really cares or takes it serious. You know the chances of them taking it so dear to their heart like a game employee is 0%.

Yet game employees go ape shit over this.

Dude He Is a director. His decision do not influence your life. If the game he has made does Not appeal to you, don't play It. You won't die If you do.

So no it's absolutely Not the same. And the ammount of hate Neil gets Is something else.

What other game has gotten this kind of response? RDR2 is pretty divisive as was GTA IV but detractors of those games are able to be civil and decent about it.

Disgusting messages. At the end of the day it's just a game.

Why take it this far.

About the game itself. After spending so much time and effort creating characters which are loved by gamers and have become cash cows, why kill them off?

Maybe developers need to learn a thing or two from Nintendo. Ganon and Co. still alive and kicking.

No Man's Sky fans sent threats to Sean Murray when the game was delayed. It even made mainstream news.

Again. Just duchebags. Ignore and get on with it.

I don't stand up against it simply because I don't know who sent those messages.

How can I even begin to guage the severity of these threats if I don't know who or where they came from?

All we hear is the same old tired stock phrases from people "condemning" this shit but we can't say what this tells about the larger community if we don't know who sent the messages.

I mean what even is a "gamer" in this context and how do we know gamers sent these messages at all.

If anything I feel its more likely to be "anti SJWs" or "culture warriors" doing it since they are the ones with an interest in this idea that media is being "infiltrated".

This just seems like some PR bullshit to be honest.

Seems to be used as a shield from criticism.

Unless we know who sends this stuff and from where what can we really do?

Is it one group of dudes with loads of alt accounts? Is it a bunch of individual actors? Is it some kind of organized group?

What age? What nationality?

If we can't answer any of these then we are just talking shit and speculating.

Which kind of plays into this as a marketing or PR stunt.

"Oh unknown people from an unknown place with unknown motives sent us nasty messages. Gamers have to do better. Please support our game."

Why should "gamers" shoulder any responsibility until the perpetrators here are publicly named and their backgrounds exposed?

He should contact the police about death threats, which I'm sure he has not, and thus proving he does not take them seriously.

Pfft, good luck. I got a death threat and was doxxed back when I had some public exposure, and when I contacted the police, they looked at me like I was asking them to do something about the Martian threatening to blow up my house with an Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator...

Why would you say that? Twitter LOVES calling out people for wrong think, naming and shaming. Witch hunting, Doxxing and canceling.

But with Druckman and Laura we don't have the names of anyone who supposedly said these things. I can't search their post histories to confirm if they did in fact say any of these things. Instead we are presented with a .jpg that anyone could create in 5 min as "proof"

SJW types LOVE to play the victim. And here they are doing it again, spreading the narrative that gamers are hateful and toxic and many gamers here on Gaf are buying into this narrative all too easily.

I think this is 100% fabricated and unless some actual evidence is provided there's no reason to believe otherwise.

Exactly.

With ND at the helm, you never now what kind of dumb PR they'll pull off in hope of getting pity clicks. Druckmann already did his Kurt Cobain plug months ago.

When PS5 got revealed months ago by Cerny, forums were confused at the kind of power, their focus on SSD etc.... The console wasn't even shown at the show.

Who were the first ones to tweet PS5 is great? It was so blatant and fast, someone on Reeeee even did a thread on it not knowing who were doing the tweets until some people responding pointed it out.

Turns out it was a bunch of ND employees tweeting asap in support of PS5. And that Ready at Dawn CEO chimed in too like it was all planned and synchronized together.

Oh man we totally agree on this... really, people need to calm the f* down. These should be classified as death threat and if some people need to see their account banned it's people like these. You don't like something, just move on don't threaten people, wtf!?!

At some point this kind of behavior should be punishable.
