So I’m not really in a place to go spending a few grand on a new TV like a C9 or the like, so when next gen rolls around I’ll be playing either on my current KS8000 or I have a LG 34GK950F UWQHD 144HzLG monitor. Basically my choices are 4K 60fps and HDR, or 3440x1440 and up to 144fps. Which do you reckon would be better?

Also, will you be using a TV or monitor next gen?

I'd say go with the KS because its a VA panel + the higher resolution, over the IPS and 1440p of the LG monitor. The few next-gen console games that are actually >60hz you can fire on the monitor, best of both worlds!

TV next-gen for me, I have a Sony ZD9. Best picture I've ever seen on a TV. Spongebob looks jawdropping lol.

What size is the KS8000? If its 65" you could buy what is imo the current best 65" FALD LCD for $1400 on bestbuy, probably cheaper if you hunt. Your KS is edge-lit so this would be a nice upgrade in terms of HDR & the processing, motion and general image quality would be much better. It would do you well for 2-3 years and then get a kickass 2022 OLED or whatever the new hotness is then. Go onnnn you know you want to!

Thats just when the next-gen will be getting super good too so even more reason to get a medium upgrade now, the longer you put off buying an OLED, the better its going to be when you get it. Once OLED is able to output over 600 nits full field it will beat HDR of LCDs completely (it already mostly does) and some more motion enhancements should come down the line.

Higher frames for sure. I don't have a 1440p monitor (27" and 32" is too big for me as I game from a desk) but I think people will be surprised at how huge the adoption of this resolution will be next gen. It's the sweet spot for where tech is at the moment.

TV. Games will be 4K so there's absolutely no need to look at anything below that, unless you are really limited with space and can play only on something that's 20-30". Secondly, modern day, top-of-the-line TVs already offer what used to be PC monitors advantage not so long ago - 120Hz and VRR, plus features like HDR, ALLM, QFT, which can elevate the experience to a new level.

1440 / 144hz monitor, 4K OLED TV. Best of both worlds depending on what you're playing.

TV. It has the best image quality if you want it but you can also always go into 120hz mode if you want to. The only downside would be the cost, but monitors cost even more so.

I you want OLED go for LG C9 and CX, but you'll need to deal with weak motion control at 24-30fps and potential burn-in and banding concerns.

If you want LCD LED go for Sony X900H, best motion, upscaling, color processing at a budget price. But you need to live with slight blooming that LCD's have with local dimming methods (can be turned off and have less darker blacks) and no perfect blacks in dark rooms. I'm personally going for this one 65-85".

In terms of input lag HDMI 2.1 are toe-to-toe with monitors at 1080p/1440p with extra 4K and 120Hz, VRR, ALLM.

Only problem is if you think 48-55" is too big.

+ A-FRC which is still better than basic 8 bit. It does HDR. It's much cheaper than the CX OLED and will do fine for gaming and all of the models can do higher refresh rates.

Monitor everyday.... much easier to track things on screen and the outlay vs a tv with low input lag is much less

You're moving goal posts, you said there won't be HDMI 2.1 monitors, I showed you wrong. Whether that particular monitor is worth the price is a different discussion.

I'm fine with my Asus PG32VQ for the moment for PC gaming and QLED for console.

Well, I checked the rtings.com range of best gaming monitors and didn't find it, so it's still to come and seems to lacking critical quality features.
