So when the story goes to shit exactly? I'm doing the second flashback with tommy and for now is an acceptable revenge story without much nonsense, not top tier story in videogames but acceptable nevertheless.

Are characters going to behave like batshit monkeys any time soon?!

Shit goes down after the quest to get to the ferris wheel, which I think your pretty close to.
I'd heard the same stuff about going to shit in the second half too (thanks Skillup) but personally don't think it does at all. Its actually pretty interesting (so far. I'm a few hours past it so maybe it still will). But plenty people seem pretty upset by the big twist and the direction it takes the game. For various reasons it seems too.

The story doesn't go to shit & characters behave pretty consistently throughout the entire game. But halfway through it takes a big narrative shift (and even mixes thing up gameplay-wise for that matter). You'll either be on board with what they're doing or you won't. If you're not, then you won't find the story very pleasant anymore. I personally love what they have done.

Looking at trophies, 10% have already beat it. Crazy. I’m taking my sweet time with this. 2-3 hr chucks at a time.

You're arguably doing it the better way. Its very much split into episodes with tons of mini-story-arcs.

No no nothing like that lol. Its the same gameplay mechanics you are doing. Stealth encounters, combat encounters, looting, upgrading weapons, upgrading skill trees. The enemy types also fundamentally remain the same, with a couple new human & infected types to keep things interesting.

Its just that, well, you'll see.

How would you guys and gals feel about DLC that enables the player to replay certain segments of the game but with the element of choice? So, instead of having to kill certain characters, you could choose not to do so. Or instead of not killing certain characters, you could do so. By the way, do you think that Naughty Dog ever considered allowing the player to choose during the game's development?

In any meaningful fashion? Doubtful. Look at Uncharted 4 - you have "decisions" (you can select what piece of dialogue to deliver at a couple of points), but they don't change the outcome at all.

(and just to be clear, I think it's fine, linearity does have its place too)

I think that TLoU2 would have been much better received if Naughty Dog had given players the power to choose to kill or not to kill. I wonder if it's too late for them to introduce this sort of mechanic via DLC. Would it require new motion captured performances?

Oh absolutely. Not only of the actors, which could be replaced with stunt doubles, but their faces too. All of the performance (both the speech and the mocap) is captured at once, this nowadays includes facial expressions too (previously all of the faces were animated by hand, which obviously is a very time-consuming process - but even now, the mocap data gets adjusted afterwards by the animators).

Just finished it, and just got to say WOW. Playing it was a bunch of mixed emotions. It's weird there are parts I thought I was mad and angry at the choices but at the end, it all just clicked for me in the end.

It's also the best looking game I've seen.

I hate that Ellie is missing two fingers. That's the only thing that really bothers me.

I really cant get behind claims that TLOU2 is bad game design. I get if people dont like the story (It's different for sure), but gameplay wise? This is a tight and responsive piece of software. I cant think of a single time where the characters did something I didnt want, or messed up my rythem. I really cant. It just works.

I think its pretty crazy so far going back to ferris wheel as Abby and I totally get what they're trying to do. Its pretty effective for the most part. I'm curious on how much more I have left. I'm trying to pace myself. Otherwise I'm always panning the room looking for the same exact object to push open, crawl space, and etc. I want it to feel unique instead of repetitive.

I played the game and it blew my mind. I hope for something like a horde mode. I hope they include it because the combat feels so satisfying. Oh and I liked the original character model of the "mystery woman" more in the trailer. In the game it looks comical.... Too over the top. She walks like she just had the greatest pump in the gym

So I was live streaming this last night on youtube through my ps4 and I kept getting copyright violations throughout the stream that would black it out anybody know why? One time was Ellie playing guitar so I figured that was music reasons. Other times though seemed random.

How well do you guys and gals think that Naughty Dog could develop a Metal Gear Solid game, considering how well they've implemented stealth into TLoU2?

As long as Kojima is on board as an advisor, it would be a dream come true. Retro Studios already proved you can give a western studio a japanese IP and produce great results. And the stealth in this game speaks for itself. How far Naughty Dog has come from the awkward & short stealth sections in Uncharted 2.

Audio question.

Here is my situation. I use my Denon 7.1 surround setup and it sounds amazing with this game. I do have a great set of philips stereo headphones i use at night time when the fam is asleep. When I plug these in directly to the Denon receiver it states Dolby D. Now, what setting should I pick in game under audio options to get the optimal sound with my receiver doing the surround processing?

Any suggestion.

Oh and before you ask, I've tried a numerous amount of times with two different controllers plugging the headset directly into the controller. Sound cuts in and out (maybe interference) and it does not make it an enjoyable experience.

I can safely say the survival difficulty in Part 2 in much more brutal than the first game. I just survived encounters after you get the bow for first time. I had barely had resource to work with.

People who will never play it are saying it's bad because of a few minutes of spoiled cut scenes. I would even go as far as to say it's objectively an excellent game. Weird thing to say I know, because artistic taste is subjective, but given the sum of all it's parts. I fail to see it any other way.

I actually like the story but this game could be about Ellie looking for the last Twinkie in the apocalypse and I would love playing it.
This is so true, once you get on the field you forget about the story and get immersed into the gameplay loop which is fantastic. I do wish there were more stragglers on the streets/towns, perhaps on the higher difficulty levels there are(I played it on normal).

It's pretty funny the way this game tries to manipulate the player, even during gameplay sections. Listening to the WLF crying over their poor attack puppies was one thing, but the Seraphites shouting out their friends names?!

"Noooo! She killed Jimmy!!!"

Well yeah. Jimmy strung someone up by the neck, cut their stomach open & pulled out their guts while they twitched & kicked. Jimmy took an arrow in the eye & good riddance.

Fuck sake game.

You're forgetting the worst crime of them all:

"Bigot Sandwich"

Worst crime of all? Hardly. But yes, bigot sandwiches is one of the stupidest scenes I ever watched in any serious story. Game or movie. The scene was written & delivered with a straight face. It's comical. It will be deservedly mocked for a long time to come.

Also,

I wonder how Ellie from part 1 would've reacted to the dude who said something offensive to her.

I must agree on the Seraphite thing. I felt no guilt killing them. The bigot sandwich I get because it sucks being hated for something you were born as.

wlf call names for dead people too.

i'm eagerly waiting for the first gaf member with "bigot sandwiches" as a name :ROFLMAO:

and ellie always was a confrontational annoying brat even when he was a child, just look at every cutscene with her and the fat gay guy from the first game or the first half of the game with joel.

So I've taken my sweet time with this game - in my defense, it's too hot here in .fi currently for my sensibilities to remain indoors, and as we are about at the summer equinox, it means there's too much light no matter what. This game deserves to be played in the dark. Also, I've done more exploring just for the fun of it, something I didn't do nearly as much with the first game (I maintain there was less incentive to do so in the first game too).

I'm just about to reach the hospital. And
seriously, fuck stalkers. They were already my most hated enemies in the first game, but here, they're even more that. I really don't like stalkers. Which is to say, I do enjoy my encounters with them. I just hate them.

One Redditor used the meme of manipulation using dogs and the entire internet thinks they're geniuses and figured something out. If you're that mentally weak to be triggered over digital animals being killed when they can rip your throat out, you need help. All I'm saying.

She calls them bigot sandwiches because they were made by a bigot. That's it. What about this is so stupid, why does it bother you so much? Why does it deserve to be mocked for a long time to come instead of simply forgotten?

So, I have a question for all the level headed and honest people out there. I'm considering buying the game today and would like to hear a couple opinions first. Is it likely I will enjoy this game?

My background is that I love stealth games. Personally, I didn't like the first TLOU at all. I wasn't compelled by the gameplay or the story. I'm not really compelled by the story here either, though I don't completely hate what I saw in the spoilers.

I'm interested in buying this basically just for the gameplay. I want to explore and stealth kill people in a AAA game. Is the satisfaction of stealth and brutal melee kills enough for the purchase do you think?

If you didn't like the first one at all you might not like this one. It is a vastly improved version of the first but it still has the same DNA. I happen to love it but it doesn't reinvent the wheel. It's also not really a stealth game even though it has stealth elements. It's very easy for things to go wrong and you end up in some of the most intense shootouts I have played in a game. I would look up some youtube videos of just the combat.

Basically, as far as the gameplay is concerned, this is better in pretty much every way. It's more varied, there are more tools (or weapons, rather) at your disposal, the level design is so much superior, the enemy AI (and that of your companions) is much better.

But if you didn't like the gameplay in the first game... there's more of it, just more refined.

If you didn't like the gameplay of the first one then you are probably not going to like this one, so you should probably skip it.

It's my favorite stealth game though.
