Thanks,
I had that enabled.
I can buy still do purchases, without 2FA every time.:pie_thinking:

Yeah, you don't need it for purchases on a console you're signed in to. It will ask you for a code only when you sign in to a new console.

It'll also ask you for the code if you sign in to the store using a browser or the PlayStation app on mobile.

If you want additional protection on individual purchases the option is:
- Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Purchase Settings > Require Password at Checkout

I don't have this enabled as it'll be a PITA

Hopefully it’s not as laggy as the PS4 UI. Sometimes the PS4 one is just super sluggish, especially when leaving a game.

That is because they are using a shitty jaguar core for whole system and using internet for several things, when Sony servers are congested the UI is lagging more.

Looking forward to it.
Both systems have good looking ui.

Just hoping for:

Quicker, instant feedback.
Wish list for the store and faster store lol....
More customisable.
Better internet browser - please
More apps that you also customise locations etc

Been happy with the PS UI since PS3. Simple and does what I need

I don't think we will get this. I think Sony is using only 1 core for browser even if you are not playing games on PS4. And probably they don't want you playing movies (streaming sucks because the slow performance on PS4 browser) or games on the browser.

Even 1 core from a new Chromium build would do wonders considering it is a Ryzen 2 core with up to two threads of work.

It’s lightweight wack that the Series X is probably going to have the exact same UI as the Xbox One.

Looking forward to see what they come up with, knowing they'll also support an assistant I wonder if they tailored it mostly to that

MS is all about generationless feel and ecosystem. They want all their consoles and UI to look and feel the same. The SX is basically a thicker 1X.

The SX UI will be updated, but it’s still based off whatever XB1 is getting too and will have the same software design language. That definitely takes away the next generation newness feel.

I much prefer Sony’s generational approach. It’s important to have that change after 7 to 10 tears.

New controller and features
New console design
New user interface

Everything about PS5 feels next generation and has that newness excitement.

here you can add these. PS3 UI > PS4 UI. PS5 with just that screenshot, im already impressived.

I love what I've seen here already from an audio visual UI point

I think Sony are sitting on something really nice with their next UI. Bit of quiet confidence with that little teaser

I think the PS4 UI is good... better than what MS is doing, even after 5000 revisions. It's just slow whenever you're not doing the basics, but the SSD would fix that.

Hopefully, the CREATE button will be super responsive. I've missed plenty of screenshots on PS4 because the Share button is too slow to perform.

how much of the RAM will the OS footprint take? I am assuming 3GB as well?

More like 2 GB. I'll be surprised if it's 3 GB. XSX reserves 2.5 GB, though like we discussed before I think some of that (maybe 128 MB or so) is being used as a quick cache for data that's storage-bound (in or out).

It’s lightweight wack that the Series X is probably going to have the exact same UI as the Xbox One.

It's not. Well, not the way you're thinking. They're updating the UI for XSX and then implementing that update on the XBO X and S to streamline the UI across the platforms.

Probably should've led with revamping the UI for XSX, though. If they're gonna pass those changes downward, just do it quietly.

Why would the boot screen ask you to press the playstation button when it the PS5 boots by pressing that button?

- because you can probably turn it on with a power-button
- because you can probably turn it on with the ai

And also if I turn my TV on first and the last thing it displayed was the PS4, then the PS4 then starts itself up (HDMI-CEC) but doesn't switch the controller on. So I have to press the PS button in that scenario.

I like the PS4 UI, though it gets really slugish sometimes. Excited to see what they have to show us, hopefully it will be very snappy and clean.

It's easy to trivialize, but I am honestly glad that Sony is demarcating this generation with a new interface. This clip gave me flashbacks to PS3 and I personally miss the classic XMB, knowing it was more suited for a system that was intended to entertain with photos and music. I doubt PS5 is going back to that, but hopefully McLaurin's team will deliver on something snappier than the PS4.

Man Sony is revolutionizing all aspects on this new console. No stone left unturned. Every piece of hardware, every feature is receiving absolute 200% effort and innovation....
I am.genuinely shocked and pleased about this fact because it's not easy to fix something that isn't broken.

I really appreciate their effort into making this next-gen entirely new and different from the previous gen! It reminds me of the PS2 era for some reason, this drive for innovation.

I hope they bring this wave back, very very disappointed it wasn't there, just some cheap version of it and a very limited amount of colours. They was sooo many colours compared to what we have now

one of the things that i always wanted to see in the PSN store is to show the number of downloads / Buys for every game available

If Sony is radically changing the interface, then this could affect users' ability to carry over themes from PS4.

They definitely won't allow for themes to carry over. Sony isn't even allowing new themes to be added to the PS Store anymore unless it's an official game tie-in theme.

So I'm mainly just hoping they allow for user made themes for PS5 like they did for the majority of the PS4's life.

I couldn‘t care less about them making a new UI, what I care about is feature parity with the PS4 one.

If they pull another PS4 UI launch with half the shit missing from previous gen, I‘ll riot. Feature parity or bust.

Are you talking about things like the multimedia playback and media server features? If so, then yeah, I agree. It was a shame that they dropped so many of those features.

I will always prefer the feature set of the XMB albeit going back to it from PS4’s UI takes some retraining. That was a multimedia monster... just needs a bit more RAM and faster CPU when active. It could shine with PS5 taking it to new heights.

I agree that the PS3 XMB was a better interface overall, especially for multimedia features, many of which were pared back or dropped altogether. I understand they really wanted to promote the PS4 as "games first", kind of like Nintendo's traditional emphasis on games over ancillary features, but they could've tucked away the "advanced" media stuff in another category, like they did with the TV/video apps.

One thing the PS4 excelled at is organization of your games. You could easily see which games were installed, as well as which games you're purchased or claimed on your account, but don't have currently installed.

They definitely won't allow for themes to carry over. Sony isn't even allowing new themes to be added to the PS Store anymore unless it's an official game tie-in theme.

So I'm mainly just hoping they allow for user made themes for PS5 like they did for the majority of the PS4's life.

I didn't know they stopped accepting new PS4 themes. If that's the case, then it is unlikely that they'll be usable on PS5.

Really hoping for a complete revamp new layout and what not. Also speed of UI is going to need to be insanely quick.

Hopefully it doesn't take another three years for folders this time
What is it with Sony and Nintendo dragging out the release of features people actually want, LOL.

The problem with the PS4 UI is that it has to go off to the internet to fetch data on such things as user created screenshots and videos which must cause some of the lag. I wish you could just turn all that nonsense off as it doesn’t interest me.
This too, the PS4's social features are a bit too "In your face" for my liking.

...
Yep. The list of features the PS3 had that the PS4 didn‘t is scarily large, like having the PS button prompt for notifications to go directly to that notification content (pre-2.00 you had to manually navigate to the notification tab to click a notification), notifications for friends coming online or offline trophy cache to name a few.

We finally gonna get video chat again? That's be nice. Throw in custom backgrounds and I'm set. Was sad when it went away on PS4. I think it was because of people like my big brother back then who were mooning people and stuff in burnout paradise during the ps3 days 😅
