When they showed the PS5 for the first time, it looked alright to me. I liked it, but regardless of what you thought about it, seconds later they showed the digital version and it had a more refined design due to the symmetry it had. It made many people think that was the original design and the one with a disc drive was the after thought.

With that said, placing both consoles vertically, the Digital version looks clearly better than the other. However, horizontally, it doesn’t make any much difference, and I think that the one with a disc drive is more sturdy since it has the bump facing down.

another thing that caught my attention is that apparently, the PS5 will need a stand regardless of how you put it. Both ways are shown with a stand, and make sense since the white part is curved on both sides.

I know some people will have to place it either horizontally or vertically because they don’t have a choice due to their entertainment center or place where the console will go.

But, If you had a choice which way would you put the PS5?

Me?
Digital - vertically
Disc - Horizontally

I imagine I’m going to wall mount the unit behind my television (so digital+vertical). But I’ll make up my mind once I have it in-hand. I would prefer to have some VR information before committing but doubt we’ll get news on that front until this time next year.

Horizontally, assumming, it fits on my shelving so it’s out of sight behind closed doors when not in use like all my stuff other than the receiver and center speaker in the middle of the stand.

Thinking about painting the inside of the glass on the doors black as it’s frosted/semi opaque now and it already bothers me a bit that the light gray SNES Classic shows through and the white PS4 will how through even more.

Not a big deal. I/we are just a little picky about who things look and keep our hose very tidy and near a “staged” look.

Horizontal . But if it is heavily recommended to put it vertically i may change my mind. A special edition PS5 may also make the vertical option more appealing to me.

Both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will be horizontal.

Vertically, it's more aesthetically pleasing that way (which doesn't say a lot).
Normally I'd go horizontally, but with the design they went with I think it would do the console injustice.

Diagonal. Gonna tie fishing line from the ceiling.

But in reality. Horizontal. Vertical is going to be an issue due to just how large it is in my HT setup. But I am working on getting my tv mounted and will be moving my rc 263 up(thing is fucking massive...no seriously....it's fucking huge) and that would possibly give me more room.

While I like the look of it, it's still gonna go behind my TV just like my PS4. Vertically, of course.

Horizontal. By the size comparisons people were doing, the console is too tall, won't fit in front of my tv. On its side it won't be a problem.

Digital edition and horizontal appeals the most to me. It should be shallower than the PS4 Pro but longer which suits my shelving.

Horizontal usually has stayed cooler so I’ve always done that.

Is this really true? If it is, then I'm changing my vote to "horizontal disc PS5".

I don't think it's a good idea to mount the PS5 behind the TV, since the TV generate a lot of heat as well, so it will be too much ambient heat in addition to all that heat the PS5 generates.

What about your ventilation. Closing cupboard doors might trap or circumvent heat

It's been true in prior generations and I have no reason to beleive it changed in the PS5 unless a test shows it's no longer true, the horizontal orientation lets more airflow in every channel, maybe the wind tunnel effect is better that way too, plus optical disk drives (and formerly hard drives) technically perform best that way.

I always have the door opened when using it. Have had no issues with past consoles including PS4 and PS4 Pro. The shelving is pretty roomy vertically and the back is semi open with the big hole cutouts for cables.

I just want my consoles largely out of sight when not in use, especially the PS4 as it clashes with my mostly black set up.

Im inclined to buy the regular discful version, but if the price difference between the 2 is like $100 I'll go with the all digital version.
Also, I've never ever EVER had a vertical console and never will. My setup simply can't take one.

Horizontally, no doubt.

I personally don't understand the appeal of a vertical console, but that's just my opinion.

The PS5 design start growing on me

It looks great in vertical position

So much better than any previous ps console in vertical position

Not so great horizontally

I believe vertical is the most natural position for ps5 and this will be the first time i put my console in vertical

Disc vertically I wonder if the stand is sold separately......

Don’t care, whatever fits my entertainment center, and unfortunately until we learn the actual size I don’t think either way will fit.

Shocked at the poll results. I'm not big on the design in general, but it looks absolutely abhorrent horizontally.

Do people actually use vertical orientations? I've never owned an entertainment center that would accommodate that.
