WB Publicly Mocks the "Release the Snyder Cut" Crowd

look im sorry you are getting death threats. that sucks. and anyone making those is shit. i agree.

but i don't think it is "bad DC fans" who are sending death threats. death threats seem to be a common thing across all media. i mean Steven Universe had them. the Reylos were threatening Adam Driver. Ken Bone got death threats. it's kind of a thing you get if you are on social media with any amount of global notoriety.

i just object to the idea that fans of a "certain" franchise are inherently evil. as if there is something inherently toxic about x media property that attract lunatics, making it suspect to be a fan of that property at all. if we were to take a tally of everybody who watched this global blockbuster and then tally the number of death threat weilding lunatics, it would be very, very tiny. so tiny that any claim that "a fan of x property will be toxic" seems to be based on anecdotal evidence.

this seems to be common across social media. imo it is a problem with social media itself, rather than the fans (which include millions of people NOT doing this). i just object to you painting everyone with a broad brush.

I think this is perfectly said. The generalizing is bizarre or shortsighted.

You mean the fake death threats that we are not even sure we're made by Snyder fans?

Just to be clear, this is what you are crying over?

I'm crying over people threatening to kill me over a fucking comic book movie for the last 2 1/2 years with #ReleaseTheSnyderCut in their name or profile.

I think this is perfectly said. The generalizing is bizarre or shortsighted.

It's not generalizing. The Snyder Cut crowd has a reputation online for being extremely bad. They only started the suicide prevention fund raising AFTER they earned that reputation to try to clear their name (it was too late).

This guy WORKS FOR DC and has seen things first-hand there:

And websites got it the worst, since the accounts that led the "movement" in the early days declared "bloggers" as the enemy who had to be killed.

All I'm seeing is whining and crying over tweets. Even the tweet you posted here, sorry but I'm not going to pretend you're life was in danger. Over a unreleased movie

Also, 😂 at the guy calling Snyder fans terrorists. I think that really shows how out of touch you people are

i mean this is just blue checks bitching about toxic fans.

at this point i imagine the number of people bitching about fans and how horrible fan culture is far exceeds the actual toxic fans.

there is nothing wrong with listening to fans. or "caving in to fans" as these access media people fearmonger. the only reason we have Star Trek is due to a fan campaign. the only reason Star Wars is more than the original 3 films is that fans kept the franchise afloat for more than a decade.

also i think there is a tendency for journalists and online people to think Twitter is representative of the public, when it's actually a tiny snapshot of extremely online people. in truth there are tens of millions who enjoy these films and are not on social media at all.

I've actually had to deal with multiple FBI interviews about the threats so, yes, they're taken seriously.

One of these tweets you have provided highlights the point that you shouldn't be generalizing. The third one to be exact.

The other tweets are anecdotal. You understand that. You could find people from any fandom that act this way. Death threats are never okay, but these tweets aren't even selling the story you are trying to present - that fans of the Snyder-Cut are generally toxic - they're just high-horse tweets. And to be honest, I'd highly suspect that people making tweets like this were vehemently denying the cut existed and are now looking for a fall-back, whether that's

A:"I just said it wasn't 100% totally finished or completed"
or
B: "ugh, terrorists!"

I'd say things aren't so normally cut and dry, but here we have a clear case of a bunch of people acting smug as hell for two years now being proven wrong. I don't blame them for having trouble swallowing that pill. Drink some water.

I’m surprised this hack commands a cult of personality .

I’m not a particularly big fan of his but I wouldn’t say he’s a hack. He seems to be passionate about it. He just put out a commentary track talking about Batman V Superman. Doesn’t seem like something he would do if he didn’t actually care about his work.

TBF he really did it to drive users to Vero (remember that social media app?). Snyder is friends with the co-founder (who won a walk-on role on BvS, where they met) so he does all sorts of things on Vero to try to lure sign-ups for him.

Fair. But I think too often hack just gets used in place of “person whose work I don’t like”He can be criticised for a bunch of things but I don’t think he lacks passion.

"hack" usually indicates that somebody doesn't deserve the position they are in. that they lack the skills required and have weaseled their way in, they don't really know what they are doing. i don't think you can seriously watch a film Snyder has made and conclude he doesn't know what he's doing. i mean was he a hack when he made 300? the Watchmen movie? lol say what you will about those movies but they definitely have a certain style to them.

I always took a hack to be someone who doesn't care about what they do, they're just in it for the pay day and churn out whatever gets that. Like you said there's obviously a lot of thought put into the films he makes. When people think of "a Zack Snyder film" there's certain characteristics that come to mind. It's not just generic.

Uwe Boll is a hack.

At the very least, Snyder is extremely talented at visuals so much so that people like james Cameron and Christopher nolan praise him. You may hate his films, that's valid. But a hack he is not.

I'm so happy this is going to happen. There's definitely allot ppl being petty due to this announcement which I think is ridiculous. They just have to take the L that they were wrong about the cut. Also I'm very happy to see the support the announcement got.

I like his films. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes even Sucker Punch . I think people are slowly turning around on his later films after Watchmen. I've noticed now after things have died down that Sucker Punch has been kind of slowly turning into a cult classic.

I'll take Snyder action scenes over the MCU "Marvel Cuckolding Universe" any day of the week.

Compare the Doomsday fight in Batman V Superman to Avengers: Endgame. Wonder Woman shows up to kick some ass but not at the disservice of Superman nor Batman who's out of his league in the fight but still contributes.

What he’s getting at is you’re taking a few crazies then painting the whole movement with a broad brush and acting all self important. If you have gamed online you’ve received death threats that’s not anything earth shattering.

glad these people are getting what they want and maybe WB will learn how to please fans in the process.
