I mean, I think it's different enough. His eyes are even a different color.

But I absolutely feel you on that. Gollum is mostly shrouded in mystery as to what he used to look like before the ring. No one knows exactly what race he was. Which would determine greatly how he looks now. But it's theorized that he was one of three different Halfling races. So prob not going to look too much different between them though some of them where larger and hairier. Anyway, his entire ring transitioning phase is where a lot of creative freedom could come into play.

However, just imagine them taking that big giant step in really out there direction with his form. You can see the crap they've gotten already from people with the game not looking super realistic and instead more story book. Good luck with a crowd that finnicky. I wouldn't want to be the studio making that gamble.
Did he not strangle his brother for the ring.

i just read the wiki, it says gollum is a stoor hobit, ( i had no idea lol)

Originally, there were three types of hobbits, with different physical characteristics and temperaments: Harfoots, Stoors, and Fallohides

And it says it was his cousin he killed, woops my bad. Its been a long time since i read the books.

Not if you are comparing it to next gen AAA. I'm not talking about you specifically, but I think most people have a bad habit of knee jerk reactions where "next gen" is only whatever AAA studios can pull off, which means hyper realism or literally cutting edge, best of the best or something.

Personally, I'm having a really hard time thinking of any last gen AA game from a small studio that pulled off this amount of texture variety in the environment and object variation. Asset, object, geometry and texture density displayed on the screen as well at a great draw distance. Which would make sense given the new ssd's and io bandwidth devs now have to work with on these new consoles. Plus all the other headroom. And this game is still around a year away from launch.

That's a good point.

Do you think current AA productions don't look as good as AAA because current gen specs?

That’s why I get what they did with the Shadow games where they kind of did their own thing and was like just like “u mad?“

in general, I think that all the “canon/non-canon” is a waste of oxygen, they are storytellers telling stories in a universe, that was created by a storyteller telling a story. Either the story is good or not good, with Shadow it wasn’t good, but that wasn’t the point.

I mean, it's a combination of specs, manpower and money/time. But better specs will absolutely let devs save time in optimization and will let them not need to rely on so many "tricks" (give and take compromises) in order to compete at some level visually. But obviously there is only so far it's going to help.

Makes sense. Now that you mention it, something like that should be evident with AA from previous gen and current gen.

I'm certainly willing to give it a go as I'm a sucker for the recent Lord of the Rings games. Perhaps these were
screenshots of the Xbox One X/PS4 Pro versions, or is this "next gen" only? Seeing the game in motion will ease
my hesitation.

Good Lord guys. It's a AA game with a story book style, from a smaller studio. Of course it isn't going to look like a next gen AAA game that focuses on hyper realism or what not. And as for next gen graphics... I'll just repost this from earlier.

But you aren't going to see nearly as much as a difference between those as you will this coming gen. The hardware upgrades are really large comparatively this time around.

It seems so.

It's an exciting time to be an enthusiast gamer.

I'm looking forward to the exclusives the most so I really didn't think about the rest as much but now that you mention it it's probably due to the fact that the jump to current gen wasn't that dramatic.

Been saying this for... well, years at this point.

Anyhoo, remember that Daedalic is a relatively small studio with relatively small budgets.

I thought it was pretty clear he was a some type of Hobbit.

*Edit- quick research tells me a Stoor Hobbit.
