SEGA teasing an announcement for their 60th anniversary (Virtua Fighter 6?)

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
If they're remaking it I hope it's a different bigger and better and more well funded studio now the cat's out the bag for the first game...

And they're also doing Zwei already so :(

Ah well, back to the originals, emulation is pretty much perfect anyway...

Seeing how joyful Futatsugi was during the post mortem, i suspect he is handling himself (with Grounding) the suspected Saga remake...

My left hand is ready.

"Oh, and he says he'd love a chance to make Panzer Dragoon in VR."

Whaaaaat a coincidence...
(2 years later)

It makes sense, mother fuckers ;)
Prepare for a Panzer Dragoon Saga open world.

When I visited Japan and saw the amount of Virtua fighter rooms that were packed showed me there's clearly an audience for it. Watching people throw down money to play was so reminiscent of the 90s
The debut of VF4 in JP arcades was like a royal event. Game centers everywhere put up flags and banners advertising VF4 and that render of pissed-off Akira. The crowds playing VF4 was like the Street Fighter 2 craze. I'm sure there's a lot of pent-up demand for VF6, in certain parts of the world

But that VR game is not by him/SEGA but some random studio that's made one dodgy VR shooter on the back of a dragon before and granted we haven't seen PDVR yet but I have the awful feeling it'll just be their last game reskinned and fancied up a bit with PD art but I guess we'll see.

They even used the Panzer Dragoon front (& music?) before they had a deal with SEGA so it kinda reeks like that Diablo mobile announcement which looked like a reskin of the same mobile studio's dodgy Diablo clone (except tbh that looked better as a rip off than this dragon shooter).

I already gave the benefit of the doubt to the Panzer Dragoon Remake studio despite my worries over the visual style when it was first shown by hoping they'll get the basics right as they're just a small studio without resources to do the art style justice and I shouldn't have done that.

And it's not like that studio shows promise for progress with that video being just some proof of concept they pitched to SEGA to get the license/chance to do this with serious effort not shown there since they've got videos of that shit from 4-5 years ago to 1 year ago or so.

I can see how some SEGA dudes could be called to don a VR HMD for the first time and be amazed by the feel of presence in a 3D world and shit, enough to give them the deal even though their work would seem amateur to anyone who has seen good VR games.

But hey if by some miracle any of these projects turns out good I'll just fall in love, but until then I don't wanna get disappointed again like with the Remake after giving it a chance to impress despite my early feelings and some good first impressions by folks.

I have the feeling PD remakes/VR are just minor projects to prepare us for the real deal Panzer Dragoon Saga Open World by Grounding.

Sega isn't good for anything anymore but reselling nostalgia.

Virtua Fighter 6 would crash and fucking burn in 2020.

Their competition is Tekken 7, DBFZ, SFV, Granblue Fantasy Versus, and the upcoming Guilty Gear Strive....and this is before we even get to the new League of Legends fighting game.

And this is Sega, a company who is NOT well known for maintaining servers, listening to player feedback, or decent netcode, if their biggest multiplayer franchise (PSO) is anything to go by.

You are telling bullshit.

All these fighting games you mentioned are just "ok" or average.

And Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown netcode is quite very good, and there still online today ...

You just sound like a ignorant hater who just wants his Phantasy Star Online game (yep another RPG fan).

If Sega does make VF6 , it needs to be bleeding edge.Fighting games have become a budgeted affair, outside of NRS, everybody else is playing it safe tech wise.

Wake up, Tekken 7 is hardly better than a 15 years old game. (VF5)

Check the light effects carefully, the animations and tell me which one should be ashamed for a current gen title...

So I see neither of you actually play fighting games.
Your message was pure nonsense from start to finish.
Sega relying only on nostalgia ?
Metacritics noticed that Sega released more various games than other publishers and was good at it. (Highest overall metascore from 2015 to 2019).

If Sega wasn't releasing remakes, Smart asses would have said they forget their past.
On the other hand you Say they count on nostalgia...

Sorry, man. SEGA is doing both.
Who is funding Studio Zero and co develop Re Fantasy for Atlus ? Sega...

Sega 2020 is not all about nostalgia. You're wrong.

You are definitely showing how much you know nothing about Sega. But stupid claims like these have been common about Sega, or Sonic, for the past 20 years. You are just another one of these guys.

They made and published a ton of new games during the past two generations and this is still going of course. They are also trying to fund smaller games to please the old school fans. This is overall a good direction for the company.

I haven't seen many SEGA published games myself. Maybe they're funding titles i'm not seeing? But most of the stuff i see their name on are re-releases.

Maybe i'm wrong, but i recall a short period of time at the start of the PS3/360 era where Sega actually tried rebooting a bunch of franchises from their 1st party studios and they were all bad.

Last game I recall them putting out was Sonic Forces, and it was pure trashcan.

Maybe they're cleaning up elsewhere though like Capcom. Capcom's fighting game division is pretty ass, but everything else they touch has been on FIRE the last few years.

Last gen, Sega published more new IPs than anyone else from Condemned, to Resonance of Fate, Vanquish, Binary Domain, Valkyria chronicles, Sands of Destruction, Crush, Anarchy Reigns and hundreds of others which bomb for most of them.

That's why Sega had a slowdown with fresh IPs after the PS3 era.
Sega fans didn't care (at the moment) and were asking for revivals. Now they regret all the new stuffs of that era, as a result they are asking for Anarchy Reigns remasters...

Many publishers are relying on their past but Sega keeps experimenting new approaches too. For instance, Harada (Namco)is producing Tekken 7, Kataoka (Sega AM2) is pushing Border Break, Soul Reverse instead of Virtua Fighter 6 and 7. Because Sega is still Sega.

I only want a Saturn mini if they can somehow fit like 50 games on it (or have Mednafen level emulation to load any we want) so that they get both greatest hits type stuff like Nights, Sega Rally, Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Saga, Virtua Fighter 2, Die Hard Arcade, Shining Force III (maybe translate parts 2 and 3) and less known stuff like Powerslave, GunGriffon (maybe translate the sequel), Dragon Force (maybe translate the sequel), Princess Crown (translated), Radiant Silvergun (translated), Sakura Wars (translated with the sequel), Stellar Assault SS (translated), Bulk Slash (translated). I'm not sure if they should bother with Capcom and SNK fighting games which are sort of widely available these days (not Vampire Savior I guess) but they'd be welcome to complete the package and have some PVP fun with the system. I wouldn't mind seeing Resident Evil and Deep Fear.

I was joking for the Sega console :)
A "new Sega console" as in the Saturn Mini?
Maybe :)
Or Arcade board mini like capcom ha ha.

Model 2 mini
system 16/32 mini

Gamegear mini
I want them all in Western, Jap, Asia versions ha ha

Seems like Sega Sammy is abandoning the "Sammy" part of the name ?

Fine selection even if i would have prefered more console exclusive and leaving Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally for a Model 2 mini. (does VF2 Saturn make sense ? it sure was impressive at the time but there are limited slots on a mini console.

Well the only way we don't really need the arcade game ports is if they also make an awesome Model 2 mini bartop machine to go with it (give it a lightgun option tuned like later Naomi lightgun games - with Wii style infrared tech but way more led lights for proper calibration and accuracy for its own built in screen - or just license the Sinden lightgun - and I'm so in, though they would still need to somehow cram a force feedback wheel in there too, lol, I guess they can never do this thing justice). For the Saturn I'd just skip stuff like SEGA Touring Car Championship and Daytona USA which are vastly inferior (I dunno about including the CCE, if it's worth it as a great racer or just for looking nice on Saturn), Virtua Fighter 2 didn't lose much in the translation in comparison (sure, pared down visuals but still 60fps play) and even has the 2.1 update fixes/changes so. That's the version I emulate myself just for the convenience rather than bother setting up a Model 2 emulator on top. Although they should properly deinterlace it (like SSF can, not with some wobble shader) and every other game that runs in the Saturn "high res" mode, it's bad on modern displays.

VF2 saturn granted :)

Western, Asian, and japanese Saturn mini would be awesome:

West: Rayman, Worms, Duke Nukem...
Asia: SOTN, Quake, Die Hard...
Japan: Princess Crown, Radiant Silver Gun...

TMS is a legendary anime studio (property of Sega)who produced Lupin 3, Ashita no joe, cat's Eye, Cobra, the Rose of Versailles and mother fist fucking Akira.

They have a deal with the future anime streaming platform retro crush to stream... Akira ? Lupin 3 ?

No... They will stream the anime Virtua Fighter.

Virtua Fighter 6 confirmed :).
After VF fighters arrival in Sega heroes, Sega batlle genesis, Sega is preparing our mind before to drop the H Bomb.

PSO/2000 - PSO 2/2020
Jet Set Radio 06/2000 - ???06/2020
Skies of Arcadia 10/2000 - ???10/2020

The Sega Fes initiative was a celebration of the past (museeum part in Tokyo) with future counter part.(Sakura War revival and genesis mini announcements).

The "GO Sega " teasing seems to be the bigger version of it for the 60th anniversary. (full website, Sega "Shiro" project whose kanji also means "knowledge").

A powerful flashback from the past to blew our mind away with new projects.
(not saying they'll make it though)
Segata Sanshiro presented us Sega Saturn games, Sega Shiro will present Sega games, consoles, arcade from the past and future.

My guess for 2020 ?
3 Related Dreamcast annoucements, mark of the past

3 new projects, mark of future (Re fantasy, Creative Assembly FPS and another game from AM2 or RGG Studio coming with the next gen consoles.

A new video just popped out, featuring Game Gear, Master System 3D glasses and a Saturn:

I recently daydreamed about a new Sega FPGA console that had all Sega consoles in one, and that Sega started re-releasing their old games for it, while even also creating a few new Megadrive, Saturn, 32X games etc. Just a daydream, I know.

I'm not expecting any massive announcement this year, more just a celebration and look back on their history.

You guys are setting up a lot of people for major disappointment here.
We don't care.

Sega is already producing revivals or licensing good old IPs. There will be great comebacks (SOR4, Dragon's Trap, Chuchu Rocket Universe) or disapointments (Panzer Dragoon Remake) but this policy won't stop in 2020. (especially when even PD Remake didn't bomb... SOR 4 has good chances being a success).
Even the megadrive mini had good results in Europe, the first month it has beaten the current consoles in spain.

Those great Sega ads are just the cherry on top.

Vote Virtua Fighter 6 here, if you want.

Sega is again asking our opinion.(disguised survey)

Last time it was for the revival poll.(winner Sakura Wars)

Worth noting fact.

Sega is exhibiting Virtua Fighter pretty much everywhere:

Pachinko

Game centers of Yakuza 6, kiwami 2, Judgment

Homepage of the Go sega website

"Send us a message" page of Go Sega

Virtua Fighter has the biggest section on the Go Sega History page

Virtua Fighter is the only Sega game which has an easter egg on the last sega Shiro ads.

Sega even put the crappy Virtua Fighter 2D in the Genesis Mini, what the fuck !?

The wait for Virtua Fighter 6 may be long but the "Sega tries to hide Virtua Fighter" theory is completely wrong.

The last sega shiro ads makes me think there is sega Saturn content coming soon...

I'm so ready for some new MD and SegaSaurn games by SEGA. And new MD mini with CD games + 32X + Master System + arcade. It's not like a new 16 bits Sonic will cost a lot to be made as long as devs understand the original games and forget about the 3d ones. A SegaSaturn mini with rpg translated would be a killer but 3d should need to be clean a little.

I would guess that even relative small budget Sega games such as Shining Resonance and VK4 have a staff of at least 50 people working for at least 2 years. What if they took 50 or 60 people and put them into a Sega Modern Retro team instead, they could probably produce a new game for each Sega console (MS, MD, 32X MCD, Saturn Dreamcast) everyone one or two years, as you only require teams of 10 or so when making older games.

Not only do they already have many of the original, experienced devs, but they also have a lot of the old code and game engines. For example, they could use the old Nights engine to create a new Saturn IP, or the Streets of Rage engine to create a new beat'em up IP (I would personally like to see a 16-bit Yakuza side-scrolling beat'em up spin off using that engine). There are so many possibilities.

Of course, they wouldn't just sell them on the original hardware, they could also sell emulated versions or ports on the Switch, box, PS4 and PC. With relatively small teams and budgets, they wouldn't even have to sell massive numbers either.

Anyway, just a pleasant daydream...

There is so much that can be done:
- YakuzaXPersonaXStreetOfRage
- SEGA all stars fighters megamix
- SEGAGaga 2020
- Yakuza, the fighter (real battle on film 😋😂😉)
- ColumnsXSakuraWarsXYakuzaXSonic
- Space Channel feat. SEGA All Stars
- PersonaXYakuza
- ShenmueXYakuza with Virtua Fighters.

Some can be Dreamcast, others MD or SegaSaturn.

I like bumping This thread and make you suffer :messenger_smiling_hearts:.

We might get no Virtua Fighter 6 This Year but we have good chances getting Virtua Fighter 5 instead.

Yakuza games are sometimes announced at the PC gaming show (june 6th) and keep in mind Yakuza Zero, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 are already on Steam.

Three scenarios are possible.
Sega launches the yakuza collection (3 to 5) in 2020 so as we can play VF5 in 2021 (inside Yakuza 6's game center).
Sega releases Yakuza 3, 4, 5 separetely every Year then we are screwed for several years.

Final solution, Sega announces Judgment at the Event and it's a happy end since WE can play it as a stand alone and enjoy Virtua Fighter 5, Motor Raid (if you are Fan of Road Rash and wipe out) or Fighting Vipers.

Between the PC gaming Show, IGN online Event, it's pretty locked Sega will present at least one game.
And don't forget Alien Isolation us only 2 bucks on Steam today, mother fuckers !:messenger_ok:
