Marvel Avengers Overview Trailer

Surprise.. It's a loot game

Post-launch characters will come at no additional cost
Though Crystal Dynamics isn’t discussing the number of post-launch Super Heroes planned, Hughes clarified that sheer quantity itself isn’t the goal. “We treat each of these Heroes as wanting to be able to star in their own game… The truth is the hardest thing is deciding which Heroes to not make.”

New suits will be cosmetic only
The game’s detailed visual customization will allow you to unlock (or purchase) new suits and outfits as you play, but the fashion upgrades won’t affect gameplay. There will be “…no loot boxes, no pay-to-win, you’re not going to be paying money to beat the game or be better at the game,” Hughes clarified.

Outfits will be a combination of fan favorites from comics, the colorful and rich designs present in eighty plus years of Marvel history and new designs that are completely original to the game.

There are many ways to customize your Super Hero abilities
As you gain levels, you’ll be able to purchase new abilities via skill trees. Though many of these skills will upgrade your attack power, you’ll also be making choices between different build types.

“We have a vast amount of Gear unique to each Super Hero in Marvel’s Avengers, each with its own rarity, stats, and Perks to unlock,” Hughes says. “When we say ‘play your way,’ we mean it. Players can dive deep into min-maxing their hero build through Skills and Gear. Players can switch out Gear and choose which pieces suit individual playstyles as new, better Gear is discovered or earned, allowing them to further tune their playstyle.”

“For Gear — the real powers are found by unlocking their innate Perks. Perks are unique modifiers tied to Gear that augment or enhance how each Super Hero plays — examples of Perks are the ability to unleash an AOE Burst upon taking damage or faster recharging Heroics. In addition, Branded Gear Sets, which enable more custom builds with stat bonuses are present in the game. Gear — and Skills — are a foundational part of our progression system and allow players to really flex their creativity. This, combined with the crazy number of purely cosmetic Outfits available for each Super Hero, will make everyone feel unique. What you’re seeing in the Game Overview video is pre-Alpha so it’s subject to change and evolve as we develop the game.”

Yet another loot game ugh...

The loot itself don't bother me, it's just that loot games use that gameplay loop as an excuse to massively inflate enemy health and make everything loooooong and drawn out.

I've had a bad feeling about this game.

I just finished watching this... uhhhhhhh... I'm not feeling too good about the line "all missions move the narrative forward" and the shot of the mission info screen about saving the scientists, that just screamed "randomly generated mission" with Fallout 3-style static shots of NPC's thanking you and then running towards a black void doorway and disappearing. The gear looks awful, either do super light itemisation or very heavy, none of this middle of the road "complicated but ultimately pointless" crap. Sorry to be so down on it but I can already see the pointless busy work and considerations that - as has happened many many times in the past - with ultimately be pointless.

I just finished playing Arkham Knight again yesterday and it felt like if they tried to convert that style of game to an MMO and you are just left with large open levels with nothing in them because they had to remove most of the content in the city for the netcode to work.

Dont get me wrong, I think the combat looks cool and fun but the story/scripted bits look like a part from Spiderman/Uncharted that was left on the cutting room floor.

Some cool stuff, but at the same time the game seems to be unnecessarily... cluttered. In multiple aspects. It might turn out okay, but as of now I'm not super pumped. TLoU2 and Cyberpunk will be taking up all my gaming time around then anyway.

Imagine having the fucking avengers brand on your hand and making such a dull, non-impressive game...
This shit deserve a rdr2 budget and treatment not this...this...thing, and i'm don't even give a fuck about the avengers tbh...

NEXT LEVEL lame™
This is right up there alongside Cyberpunk 2077 as my most anticipated games of next year. The more I see the more I want it.

Of course it's another (probably grindy) loot game. Also if I'm getting it right loot doesn't even change your appearance and alternate outfits need to be unlocked or bought which makes it sounds like they'll be their own separate grind.
No thx.

Thankfully there's plenty of other great stuff coming next year.

That menu screen gives me mobile game chills. I thought this would be a heavy story driven game, but it looks like its made up of mini missions and loot collectathons. We have a while, but I don’t think this is for me.

I want to like this, I do... but man that looked ROUGH. Are they using some form of reconstruction on the image, or some form of awful AA? Because man that looked pixelated as hell.

Plus, they introduce the girl as a playable and then instantly show a third person camera that’s right up her arse and far too close. But it’s ok, because apparently the at model wasn’t even using a girls animations, and walked like a bloke. In fact I’m pretty sure it was Sayid from Lost, because with that stance, hair cut and look, it was just a Middle Eastern Male.

I’m not too fussed about all the cosmetics. I knew that was coming once everybody said how shit the characters looked. It won’t change the faces or voices, which is a bigger issue to me than the costume. But oh well...

This game has bomb written all over it, and yet, this should be the bees knees...? What the hell?

Avongers understudy team... Check
Protagonist added because "inclusive"... Check
"Surprise mechanics"... Check

You wasted money on this one Sony, could have spent a fraction of that cash on Gravity Rush 3. FFS

Coz I sure as hell won't waste my own money on this...

I am so ready for an Avengers game but I just have a bad feeling about this. I feel like deep down I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment if I get hyped.

Trying not to think about it and waiting till its out. I'll be really happy if it's a good game.

edit: DAT iron man vr game tho

unimpressive.
Yep. Tiered/leveled loot system? Scripted "cinematic" gameplay/combat in linear levels? RPG-lite?

I consider myself a pretty big Marvel/comic book fan, but I want this game to fail badly so we never have to see a sequel. This team can stick to Deus Ex.

I don't think the game will blow me away, but if it can be a 7-8/10 experience, I'm fine with that. Christ, despite the huge success of the MCU, you'd think there would be even more games. Insomniac's Spider-man (and a few before it in the same decade that I heard mixed things about). Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite (good gameplay, but some serious other issues, and Dragonball FighterZ understandably overshadowed it). Ultimate Alliance 3 (fairly good). A few LEGO games. I'm not saying go too overboard in quantity as that will result in some shit, but it doesn't feel like as much is being done with the Marvel license in games as one would expect. So at least this game is happening.

Guess it's still better than DC, despite the box office now proving that, yes, people will follow a DC hero who isn't Mr. Oversaturation himself, Batman; the only non-Arkham DC games we've gotten this decade is the Injustice series (and again, a few LEGO games). Like, that's a lot of potential not being tapped.

I got a real "meh" feeling from that trailer. It looks like a game that I'll wait till it goes on sale for $20ish dollars, play though the single player portion, and then forget about.

I have zero desire to play as Kamala Khan. How long do we expect it to take for Ms. Marvel to rebuild the team? 2-3 hours?

Will wait for reviews.🤞
