I have zero doubts, 2019 PS5 was what they had been planning for years. The first leak which we got of Gonzalo had a GPU clocked at 1.8GHz if you recall. 36CUs@1.8GHz gets us to 8.2TF which is what Penello had been parroting all along about PS5, then you had that Reddit leak which freakishly got a lot of things right, and also mentioned an 8TF PS5 in Holiday 2019 at $399 but 'could' be delayed.

I simply think a year delay had a lot of implications for them, I don't know if 2019 PS5 would possess RT capability or not but one thing I'm certain is that would've been primarily based on RDNA1 architecture. If someone works the math, RDNA1 GPU with 36CUs@1.8GHz would produce a very high TDP. The same TDP which I reckon retail PS5 will achieve, the shift in architecture and performance per watt gains allowed them to push the clocks. A complete redesign for them was never an option, unless it meant another delay into 2021.

I just think their engineering team was dealt a bad hand, mainly budget constrains ($400 box) and the delay (simultaneous launch with Xbox).

Many companies are run by accountants today, bean counters.

I agree the new boss or whatever of PS or Sony said go make me a box for 400 bucks lalalala

If Sony still has a favorable First Party and Price Point, I don’t see why anything changes. Xbox already had the more powerful console (One X). Still outsold by Sony and Nintendo.
They only had more power a year after and I will admit no games

I don't really see too much legit disappointment about the TF of PS5. More just about the presentation in general. Everybody knows TF don't matter, it's just fun having bigger numbers, but everybody and their dog knows TF don't matter and everybody worth their salt has been shouting that from the rooftops for months/years.

More power = better and more stable performance.

I expected some spin if XsX ended up being more powerful but my god the internet is just straight up melting today.

I find it funny and so many PS fans are imploding and so many Xbox Fans are gloating, without understanding the specs, or only making a comparison about TF. People got the wrong idea Xbox one and Ps4 had disparity between the systems, it wasn't TF people, it was the ram bottlenecking. There is more metrics than just TF, and there are benefits to lower count CU with high Freq versus Higher count CU lower Freq. It seems Sony decided to go with the least bottleneck, highly optimized approach, but on the other hand we really don't know the performance benchmark between the two until they are put to the test. As far as price, people seem to be in the understanding that since sony has less TF, naturally it should have a 100 dollar lower price tag, without accounting for the highly specialized SSD and heavily modified APU with a 3D Audio processor. Now this isn't to say I don't have my own set of questions or concerns, first as I said the TF is not a problem and more than sufficient, but the high Freq is alarming, making me wonder about what type of cooling solution they are coming up with ( BTW this isn't a panic reaction from Sony, Xbox Fans, it is intentional, I just what to know the "how and what made them go with that specific solution"), caveat to that is the fact that the NVM SSD size matters, which tells me that the PS5 enclosure must be extremely tight so I don't know how the air circulation is gonna work on this thing. Lastly, the SSD speed is otherwordly and is a game changer in a different sense. If you are gonna compare it to the TF, my friend you are comparing apples and oranges, this SSD is going to allow us to play open world games in an immersion we have yet to experience, but this is where my concern lies. While the Ps5 has this high tech, the controller function of the specialized SSD concerns me when dealing with 3rd party solution to increase the storage. Cerny himself expressed that as 3rd party SSD upgrades into the new solutions each unit has to be tested individually, the impact on the game play could be drastic if they don't conform to Sony's specialized SSD standards. In the end I like both systems and plan on ordering both. Xbox seems to be approaching a more PC esch system, and Sony is going toward more Console RISC based approach. I think the pricing will be similar, but I do have some questions on both unit. I think both sides of gamers are winners and should be angry over spec difference, but rather let the developers and artist make there masterpieces.

Ok then let me rephrase that...

Combine your $500 PS5 budget with another $1,000 and buy a new video card once they drop. And more for a newer CPU. And more for faster Ram.

Then in a few years spend $500 on a PS5 Pro that might even eclipse all the PC upgrades you bought this year.

Your money. :)
I have RTX2080ti & Zen 9 3900X so... I can't upgrade for now 😑

PS5 - 399
XSX - 599

I can see it.
Not happening. XSX won’t retail for more than PS5. Sony just Fed up royally by going with 36 CU. XSEX won’t cost much more, if any, to manufacture than PS5. PS5’s more expensive SSD and cooling solution will more than make up for the difference in manufacturing cost of the SoC, is my prediction. MS knows they can really hand it to Sony if XSEX costs the same as PS5 so that’s what will happen.

They didn't say anything whether the clocks have impacts on the RT or not, they didn't clarify how the RT works no tech demo no anything, I mean the worst presentation I have ever seen.
Indeed. But I've read some posts where the TF count was enaught to say to move to MS or be disappointed. That's stupid.

Sony fucked it up today, but that's not the end of the console and world. If they keep fucking it up and the console is REALLY worse that's another thing.

Btw to everyone asking for bans. They could of been giving dev kit numbers. But this thread would of been dry af without them. Quit asking for bans shyt anit that serious. Hindsight i think HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 crazy birdie was the closest

I will give the crazy birdie his due.

He said like mid Jan there was no Feb reveal.

He also told me for the longest time we wasn't getting close to 12.

He just missed the XsX but coming from a SIE that shouldn't have surprised me.

Well, all insiders were wrong about PS5. They have been feeding us bad information. Should we keep them here sharing bad information forever?

No, this is a learning experience for all. People need to start filtering the leaks they get and leakers need to learn that not everything they get second hand is true. I know this from experience, difference is that i keep it to myself.

Back on point, i'm just saying that his behavior is pretty obvious...

and will now definitely go with this slogan;

So is the Xbox better? I've not kept up with this at all.
Xbox appears to have better GPU, RT, BC, and xCloud integration.

Sony really needs to clarify their BC situation:
Lastly, we’re excited to confirm that the backwards compatibility features are working well. We recently took a look at the top 100 PS4 titles as ranked by play time, and we’re expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PS5. With more than 4000 games published on PS4, we will continue the testing process and expand backwards compatibility coverage over time.

This sounds pretty disappointing. Hopefully they will address this asap.

That's the problem, they need to clarify things as soon as possible, things don't look good for them, I mean a few days ago they revealed that one of their big exclusives (horizon zero Dawn) going to PC natively, today they showed that their machine is weaker comapred to competition. That's really fucked up.

Huh? No, not at all? I’m saying the original value i was given was 10.5 but ran very hot. The plan I was told was to fix the cooling and see what happens as they hd a higher target in mind. But the end value comes in at 10.2, which suggests to me that the original values I was given were actually somewhat correct. I mean look at those clocks, I can believe it. Later on I was given 11.6 and I ran with that and stuck with that, but I think that value was given to me on purpose because they had second thoughts about the original info.

Either way you look at it, I was wrong. Simple as that. But I’m not running away from that.

Hey man, console wars, flops, ssds and tracing of rays aside, how are you feeling?

All this talk about Tflops yet I'm over here excited about games finally having decent 3D audio......
Me too!! This, along with the SSD, was the most exciting part of the presentation for me. I'm really excited to see them take the audio so seriously. I don't think most people realize how amazing well done 3D/Binarual audio really sounds. That will make games much more immersive.

So the XsX will cost just as much as a lower spec machine? That would mean Lockhart will cost $300?

I don't see it.

Rather than scream in the sky, I would expect to see games on both consoles. Nothing has been seen yet. And it is not that PS5 is something soooo inferior to Xbox as some claim to do, it is only somewhat less powerful, but as always it will depend on each study how the capacity of each console exploits.

Just look at what some studies have achieved with PS4, it's amazing, so imagine what they can do with PS5. So guys, calm down and wait at least to watch games. BTW, no one talks about the TF-only SSD, but that SSD promises.

And most importantly, does anyone doubt that Sony is not going to supply great games to the console as always throughout the generation as they always do?

But or butts?😁
It's not arguing. People need to think about that numbers doesn't prove anything. Criticism of the presentation is appropriate. At least it is simply too early for everything else.
Numbers mean everything if we are talking about same type of architecture and hardware. If you mean games then yes, Sony still makes better games, but Microsoft has many new studios and writing them off might be another big mistake after people downplayed their ability to deliver such a powerful console.

Utterly dreadful, the pains I have I my chest are horrible, like it constantly feels like you’ve just run a marathon, even when you’re sat down. I’m ok though, the schools all shit Monday, so I’ve only got two days on my own before I have help. Thank you for asking.

Jason's "aiming to beat 10.7 TFs" was kinda wrong for PS5.
Kleegamefan was wrong as well.
VFX Veteran was wrong as well.

WTF happened LMAO!!
It seems like Sony was really secretive, but hey whatever, we sure had fun talking and nagging and had fun in the end.

Also thicc_girls_are_teh_best thicc_girls_are_teh_best was right when he said GitHub has something to it, your profile picture though LOL!!

So is Sony aiming for 399 again? I think they are being much too conservative.

Out of all the specs, the bandwidth is the biggest disappointment, 448 for 4k/60 with RT? Bottlenecked before the gens even started.

Guys, since we're concerned as to how well the PS5 GPU can maintain 2.23 GHz, shouldn't we also be concerned with how well the XSX GPU can maintain 1.825 GHz? Remember, 1.825GHz is also a boost clock. The base clock of the XSX GPU is 1.465 GHz. At 1.465 GHz the XSX GPU only has 9.75 TFLOPS.
5700XT is of a higher clock.

Give us a source/link for your bullshit

I think that guy is wrongly thinking about the base clock (which is normally used for PC cards to save energy when idling or doing 2D stuff) being used in actual games (which is not the case).

I guess his sauce is here: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/xbox-series-x-gpu.c3482

Please pardon his ignorance.
