Ori and the Will of the Wisps Review Thread

game is pretty hard played about 1 hour.

game has framerate drops ALL over the place on the X

oh and the map loads slow ( BIG NO NO IN metroidvania games)
weird thing is .. sometimes it's super fast sometimes it's slow pretty random

Hard is good imo but the performance must be better. Do you have the day one patch?

oh and every time when you load the map you have to zoom in again.

Can only agree with you here. The load time for the map is annoying (especially cause you constantly need to use it). The framerate has definitive issues and there are even freezes. I also don't like that the menu remembers your last position. If I was on the shards page last time, then back to the gameplay, then want to check the map - I end up at the shards and have to press LB. I think the difficulty comes from going where you are not supposed to go yet. Which is fine. But the map and the pacing are worse than in the first game IMO. It's more open, but it's more difficult to traverse the map.

And boy do I hate the new checkpoint system. I went in the wrong direction (somewhere where you need "bash" to progress. It creates a checkpoint right in that area with two hard enemies right next to me whenever I respawn. Probably not a late game problem, but with just three health orbs and the "take more damage" shard equipped it's fucking annoying. Died three times just trying to get out of there. If you respawn at a checkpoint, there should never be enemies just waiting for you.

Really something a avid metroidvania fan would spot in about 10 min of playtime..

I had a review copy from Microsoft. I got to a point in the game where I did 40 mins of gameplay and died. And it didn't auto save even when I hit the save marker...... I was triggered. They released a day 1 patch that fixed it but still

Based Microsoft gets a lot of shit for having no games, but they have the best new IP this generation. I trust the momentum they're building for the next console, it should be a blast.
yeah shame the actual main character is so generic looking. it's like stitch but slim

Well Ori is an Xbox game. A lot of Xbox fans claimed that Sony should've gotten the patches for Days Gone out sooner to developers if they wanted it factored into reviews. Yet those same fans are now acting like reviews for Ori 2 should've accounted for the Day 1 patch that dropped a few hours ago. It's just funny to see the same people defend something they were criticizing when it comes to a game on their platform.

Same could be said about sony fans bashing reviewers on Days Gone. See how easy that is? Now go war in another thread.

Warriors have to just derail every thread lately, its pathetic.

This user has been removed from thread.

Carry on, and keep the persecution complex console wars out of it.

I tried Ori years ago and couldn't get past the intro/tutorial section. It just didn't click with me and seemed like it would be a boring and painfully slow game. I couldn't have been more wrong. Completed it last year on Switch and it's one of my favorite 2D games of all time. The platforming is just sublime and the visuals are phenomenal. Can't wait for this to unlock tonight. Glad it's getting great reviews.

That's what I thought.
I forget to add if it hold.
It is 91 (25) now... a drop of 1 point compared with the OP picture... and Open Critic with more reviews is 87 (57).
It is hard to hold over 90 because any good score like 89, 90, etc drops it.
Dreams faced the same situation and ended 89 Meta but surprising 90 on Open.

Can you please give an example?
Btw I meant major Xbox exclusive if that wasn’t clear enough in my post. My bad if it was too vague.

Seriously though; Crackdown, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Gears 4&5, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Ryse etc... I don’t think any of those made it to 90+
Correct me if I am wrong.

there are LOT of Xbox Games with 90+ on Xbox one. Im not a fan of List warz, so not going to provide you with that.

can you take this console warrior shit out of this thread please?

nope. That’s wrong. But again doesn’t really matter. Can we please take the console warrior/lost wars out of this? I mean what does it have to do with the ori reviews?
make a new console warrior/List wars thread if you really need this.
The list is public and from Metacritic.
So there is no way to spin that as wrong lol

You are derailing the thread btw.

Hey all you people from the future in Australia, how are you liking the game so far?

Mista Mista - Since you always make such awesome OTs how about one for our little friend Ori. I'm too lazy and untalented to make one myself. :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

Do you not see my avatar? I am an Xbox guy who just happens to be very disappointed by Microsoft’s output this gen.

This is literally the only exclusive Xbox game this gen (that isn’t a racing game) to score a 90+ that’s a pretty sad commentary and is very relevant in this thread.

Well played the game for about 4 hours.
The stuttering on the xbox one x version is not acceptable certain areas are really bad. Auto save is irritating and the sluggish menu is annoying.
When the game runs ok the way you move around the world is super smooth.
The 2d art style is amazing..
BUT so far the environment is way to similar. Either i am not far enough after 4 hours. And i will get other areas later on. Cause right now everything looks the same.

I stopped playing after 4 hours cause it got kinda boring. Same as hollow knight for me.
WIll probably play some more of it at a later time. But i def can't binge a game like this.

Your wish is granted lady. Just don't expect something mad and also please suggest me a title for the OT :)

You're AWESOME!

Hmm I don't have anything. Didn't I already mentioned I'm untalented? Hopefully one of our resident geniuses here will come up with something brilliant.

First game was like anti-Hollow Knight, I hope it's not true, because (trigger alert) Hollow Knight is one of the most boring, overrated games in last few years.

Yeah, I tried Hollow Knight for about an hour on GP because everyone had such positive things to say about it, but unfortunately it bored me to tears.

Full disclosure: I generally hate 2D platformers with a passion & I completely suck at them. Ori and the Blind Forest was the one exception, even though I wasn't able to get through the game.

I really actually wanted to play the entire game because it was so gorgeous and engaging, plus I was completely immersed in the story and character. I just literally couldn't finish it because it was too hard for me. I'm hoping this time I can get through the entire game, it looks SOOOOO damn good.

Wow, amazing reviews so far. I can't wait to play this when I get home.

I love it when the GoTY contenders come early in the year.

I love when that happens. A game you are initially dismissive of but not only does it click at a later point but then only goes on to be an all time favourite!

Doesn't happen too often but you know you have a truly special game when it does (Doom, MGS3 and BOTW in my case, I loved Ori from the off).

It's really funny the amount of Xbox fans I've seen criticizing anyone who gave this game a 8/10 or 9/10 due to technical issues. Claiming that they were fixed in a day 1 patch and their review should've held off to account for that. Funny that those same people had no issues bashing Days Gone last year for the same reason. Maybe the game should've been fixed before it was sent to reviewers then. You can't blame someone for having issues all week and for putting their review up a couple hours after the patch drops. Plus I'm hearing people are still having issues even with the patch.

Days Gone was mediocre people need to accept that. I played it two months after release and yeah mediocre is being kind.

i had the same thought but days gone to this days is still not 30fsp rock solid and you still have some occasional bug here and there.
ori2 seems almost perfect after just one patch at launch from what i'm reading here and there, kinda of a different situation.

and i love days gone, also not buying ori2 for now (just to give you some context)

Wait, so... is this out in FIVE hours? I thought it was like Friday...?

Ugh, I was in the middle of the new darksiders (and enjoying it) but... this has to be done.

It's not perfect, though. Better after patch, but not perfect.
