Rumour says that Lockhart will cost $300

According to the Gizchina, the weaker brother of the new Xbox twins will cost just $300. It's a great price, on par with the current generation and probably will make the transition to the new generation way smoother. But, on the news they say that the "S" variant will be digital only, meaning that, of the rumour is true, the Lockhart will have no optical drive. For me, this statement raise one question: If true, the backward compatibility (if it really exist on the new generation) will continue to work as intended? Old generations games will be sold at the digital store? Or backward compatibility will be an exclusive feature of the more powerful brother?

If you can play all their next gen exclusives at 1080p or 1440p for an entry price of 300 that is going to be a game changer.
Keeping the CPU the same as Series X but weakening the GPU will allow them to do crazy things with that box. Plus that’s enough GPU power to continue to run the old games at 4K. Pretty sweet value proposition.

I think it's DOA at that price. If it costs more than, say, 199$, people will simply pony up the extra money for the big guns.

Pony up the extra $200 For a next gen system? Doubtful. Hell even the SAD XBO sells a shitload when its on sale when compared to the standard S and X. Most people want the cheapest option available. The whales are the ones who’ll pony up for the SX

“$299 with Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport 8 and over 200 additional games included in the box” **
**Games downloadable with included 1 month gamepass trial. Internet connection required.

Should be a market for it I reckon

What if the Big Guns cost $300 more?

Average Joe FIFA COD Man will always buy the cheaper console (And they VASTLY outnumber "Hardcore" gamers)

$300 is where the next gen consoles need to be.

It’ll be interesting to see how it does. It’ll not have the power of Series X, and won’t have tons of great exclusives like PS5. I guess it’s an entry-level machine to play next-gen multi-plats.

Hard pass for me.

Great price but I do feel they are going overboard if they go without a disc drive. Most price conscious consumers will want to buy physical. All Sony has to do is create another video highlighting that you can't trade games with the Xbox Series S.

We'll see how it goes, if it truly is a 1080p version of Series X then it could do well.

If it's lacking significant graphical features, then I think only a parent would buy this for their kids, anyone else would wait (to save money if needed) and pay more for the full experience.

It needs to be $300 and I think it could do well at that price.

HOWEVER, if it doesn't have a disk drive then MS runs the risk of retailers refusing to stock it unless they give them a ~$50 markup, as is the precedent set from the PSP Go and Digital Xbox, so I feel that $350 will be more realistic.

There is also the issue of the virus reducing supply of components, which may force MS into prioritising the more powerful console and delaying the launch.

I knew this would happen, so that means this...
  • Xbox One S - $150
  • Xbox One X - $200
  • Xbox Series S - $300
  • Xbox Series X - $500 to $600 depending on how powerful it is.

Great news. Devs have already come out and stated there will not be major differences besides resolution in regards to series s and x. 1080p or 1440p would be great entry for those that don't want to pay 500+ for a new next gen console.

Lockheart markets towards Gamepass newcomers and those who only play F2P games such as Fortnut and Apex along with other free popular titles. Not to forget that those who subscribe get MS 1st party games day one on release. $299.99 sure looks really tempting if you don't care about the juicy tech on SX and PS5

Well, it's not like I'm planning to buy an Xbox anyway, I'm a Nintendo/Sony guy. But, if any of the competition launch without drives, that's a no buy for me.

We are same friend.

Im a Nintendo-Sony-PC guy... but same... if Nintendo Launch a Console without a lector or optical disc, can fuck off Nintendo too.

..but cry so much I wish I had some
I think 300$ is the price it needs to be at if it want to see. However I have a feeling they will leave the disc drive in and come out with the all digital edition later on as they know people on lower budgets want to play them disc games they got for 2$ at ebgames.

...lacks reading comprehension.
It's 2020, we are at 55 % digital adoption, and still people get mad when there are digital only consoles? I am glad they exist. I would have wished for a discless One X. I hope there will be a discless Series X. I haven't used a physical medium in over ten years.

I guess it's ok release 2 version of the console at dayone, only if the raw power of them is the same across every version, otherwise it's a mess, especially developer side where everything have to be considered to run on the slower console, limiting de facto the creation. No optical drive and smaller hdd is one way to lower the price, but it doesn't make much sense having a only DD console with a smaller HDD. 300$ is pretty improbable. 499$ full version and 399$ with no optic and smaller hdd.

That's not the case. There will be a large difference in performance.
