I'm not saying the reveal will totally affect PS4 sales rather it's not necessary as PS4 is selling great and they can concentrate on PS5 closer to its launch in ~November.
What does them revealing the console now, 9-10 months away from release, really achieve? It's a long ass time til we can buy it.
I've been through multiple console launches and I've never got anxious about a manufacturer revealing info lol. It's just not even on my radar until a few months before physically being able to purchase it. That being said I do enjoy speculation on games, specs etc.

Gosh, imagine if the PS5 really is BC with PS1 and PS2 discs. You'd walk into CEX one day and see a PS2 game for £1, then walk in after the announcement and see it priced at £19.99 ...
Not too unlikely. For example Bully: Scholarship Edition Xbox 360 became more expensive after the BC.
The game you where talking about for the PS5 is Zero 6 behind enemy lines

Yeah it's a fact all companies take sales into account when strategically planning unveils so idk what ppl don't understand. They are not rushing to announce psv completely or certain info for two reasons (1)they are hoping to hear the Xbox price first and (2) ps4 is still selling well although it has dropped but thy don't want to cannabalize sales.

The recent price drop on PS4 Pro to $299 should help their adoption rate and add sales to their PS4 customer base. I don’t see sales being cannibalized by this though. If I was going to wait on buying a Playstation console until the next gen releases, I wasn’t going to buy the PS4 at this point regardless. The unveiling would not affect which system I go with either.
If I were on a budget, I wasn’t buying PS5 at this point regardless of Unveiling.

There are ppl tht have multiple ps4's, some die, some ppl need to get new ones if I saw all the psv info I'd wait to get a psv instead of another ps4 especially with bc. Ps4's are still selling in the thousands to your point why? Why are ppl still buying them because there still a need of a console in ppls house, again money and price play a big part but ps4 is not tht cheap at this point to warrant ppl buying it instead if they new ps5 has all this bc and is soon around the corner. A full fledge reveal and pricing will undoubtedly affect sales of ps4 imo. Hey but thts my opinion.
Mind you they still have the big hitters in TLOU and Ghost of T thy want to drive ps4 sales and if ppl know thy can play those on psv thyll wait. We know but the masses don't.

People replacing a system right now might buy right now depending on the person. Regardless of reveal, the new system isn’t releasing any sooner than holidays. If the system needs replacement closer to the holidays, that purchase decision might be affected.
People needing a console in they’re house? That was something I sort of included by mentioning people on a budget or we can also include frugally minded people in that.

Well the only thing we can take note of from next gen reveals going forward is that the gen after this, PS6/Xsx2 wait maybe even longer lol, Sony and MS have done well to keep things locked down this well. I have a feeling next time around could be an even longer wait

Dude talks about the PS5 BOM and that they (GN) know why it's expensive but they can't talk about it
My guess? Custom RT/Custom SSD/Custom Audio solutions, especially the SSD.
They didn't mention other aspects of the BOM.

From the sounds of it, the way he said why they know, it sounds like it might be pretty unconventional. I've mentioned the ThermoSiphon elsewhere, but a small version of that would be wild.
