PS5 Reveal Coming In April?

There’s been a lot of chatter about the impending PS5 reveal as of late, and while no one really knows when it’ll happen, a new Bloomberg report (via Gematsu) has indicated it could take place at the end of April – much later than the suggested February window.

According to a report on Bloomberg, there is mounting pressure from Sony Corporation CFO Hiroki Totoki for the company to provide more transparency and information about the PS5 ahead of the console’s launch later this year, leading to some internal distress.

Furthermore, Totoki-san has said that Sony’s plan to offer guidance on the gaming business outlook for the new fiscal year is no different than recent efforts, which means we should expect more info at the end of April. This suggests that the PS5 reveal could take place around that time.

Wired articles aside, there hasn't been much official chatter from Sony

April makes sense as the console launches Oct/Nov and there has been little info. Sure they could do E3 timed announcements, but June is late and if they having a dedicated presentation, gonna have to be soon.

Gonna have to spill the beans sometime.

That's an absolutely silly (and ignorant) take. "Sony" did not hint anything of the sort.

That's not what Totoki-san said. He simply said they're going to provide the outlook, which means they're going to mention how much money they expect the whole game business to make in the next fiscal year, which is something they do literally every year in their financial conference call following the January-March quarter in April.

There is no hint whatsoever in this that they're going to reveal the console.

People who know absolutely nothing about this kind of stuff should not write about it, smh. 🤔

"Mounting pressure-internal distress" 😁😂😂😂from Who trolls and fans thirsty for info? These sensationalist articles are equivalent to "after ps3 Sony is doomed and consoles are dead".

Theyll talk when they are ready and their strategy dictates, as a fan I'm good with tht. No different than this gen.

Lots of articles reaching and spinning for Sony news these days. It shows that Sony knows what they're doing. Sony is getting more media attention and discussion than MS while staying quiet.

Why wouldn't they just wait for the perfect time to blow everyone away? I'm all for it. Although, if they come out of this with just a few CGI/"in engine" trailers and a typical reveal, I will be disappointed.

I don't understand how a company so dominant in the space can also be so scared.

You're fuckin Sony. Act like it.
Because they saw what happened with Xbox One this gen. It's easy to fall from grace if you are outpriced and/or outperformed. Chances are Sony can either take a huge loss on PS5 to sell an underpowered console at 399 or they can sell it at cost for the same price as XSX, which could be 30 % more powerful. If they were confident in their package they would act like it. But since April 2019 they have done nothing but shift the messaging away from power and towards everything else. Even when asked directly about performance, Cerny answered "but the real important thing next gen is the SSD". That always seemed like a weird strategy. And then it was the great new functions of the controller. To this day Sony has not said a single word regarding PS5's power. Not when Microsoft back at E3 2018 claimed they would build the fastest next gen console. Not when since E3 2019 Microsoft advertises the fastest console ever made on their website. "Project Scarlett will set a new bar for console power, speed and performance". They didn't even chime in after DF put XSX at 12 TF and said a simple "Us too". They walked away from E3, So they don't have to show their hand at the same time and be announced the loser this time around? Sony knows how it felt at E3 2013. And they sure know how it must've felt for Microsoft. Not exactly the position you want to be in.

Basically the longer Sony is silent, the more realistic the performance gap is. The possibilities so far range from 12+ TF PS5/10 TF XSX all the way to an 8 TF PS5 with no VRS, a GPU Compute based raytracing solution/12+ TF XSX (which would put the XSX at an actual real life performance advantage of 80 % vs PS5). One of them likes to talk a lot about performance (it eat's monsters for breakfast), the other not at all. Sure, Sony could be the one playing games. But then again they had devkits out there 12 months before Microsoft. What does that tell you about how far they are into development? All that insider talk about the two being close to one another is not at all what their respective messaging says. Which is that Microsoft just oozes confidence while Sony is scared as shit. That's the public image they are currently showing. Maybe for a reason.

The fact that they're dominant in the market means that they can afford to take their time.
Yeah, that would make sense, except for the whole thing where they planned for 2019 originally, so they did not want to take their time. They wanted to get ahead of Microsoft who had just released One X in 2017 and were for sure not launching a console until 2020. Or the thing where they create one APU that is ready end of 2018 and then another one that is ready mid 2019 and builds upon that first APU. Sony didn't want to take their time and for good reason, because they wanted to avoid the drop in sales that we are seeing now. They have talked about the fastest shift to next gen for a reason.

Eehhhh, I politely disagree. Major announcements usually fall before March 31st so that the company can end the fiscal strong and enter it even stronger for investors. I know both Nintendo and Sony start the fiscal on April 1st and end on March 31st.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Gotta wait for everyone to buy Final Fantasy VII Remake first before they announce anything, huh?

Not sure fake insider threads on obscure forums counts as "media attention".

Pretty sure a few YouTube videos and press articles will sell more PS5 consoles than staying quiet.

This so much. I'm sure if Sony got some trailers ready for GoW and the sequel to Spider-man or a Pixar looking Ratchet and Clank along with Gran Turismo 7, most gamers would be salivating even at $500

Obviously not the same people in charge as at the PS4 launch.

The PS4 team was absolutely ruthless and played every move like a checkmate. This new Jim Ryan team are scared our of their pants of showing the world their 9tf machine.
The funny thing is that 9 RDNA Tflops would still produce some amazing looking games especially with teams like Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Insomniac, SSM and Guerrilla

Sony have no need to rush and gain nothing by showing there hand early. Some amazing games to come out this year still. For a final year heading into next gen the line up of games is amazing.

They can even wait until after E3 and then show everything about the console at there own show.

I expect we will see the final design tease of the console and controller before E3 with no pricing. Then around E3 time we will get a massive blowout with Cerny etc.

PS5 logo trending on Twitter, all these articles being made, YouTube vids covering every scrap of info, all on top of the discussions on the most popular gaming forums, are only some of the many forms of coverage PS5 is getting (and that's besides the fact that Sony is already in the lead from current gen). I don't know what else you could possibly want in terms of advertising at this stage. Is the Xbox getting more than this to warrant the additional pieces of info you suggested?

Nobody is selling next gen consoles right now. At this point it's all about building anticipation and managing leaks. Sony is doing both.

Nothing to see here PSU is just late, same conference, same quotes, same news.
Most companies are intentionally vague to their investors, anyone expecting a definitive answer/date/price is sadly mistaken.
I do think that it might help with the lead up till launch if they had a roadmap of where and when they'll discuss PS5 news, that would be transparent.
As it stands the silence is causing doubt in the mind of a certain % of their audience, plus the negative news that pops up now and then outshines the positive IMO.

I was beyond hyped during January and the beginning of February for official news and (me thinking) the reveal set for February.

Now it’s whatever for me. My main thing was getting a day one launch preorder, now my main thing is if I can’t get a day one launch PS5 preorder because they are being coy with their release info I’ll just get a XSeX.
