In a blog post celebrating its 23rd birthday, Quantic Dream announced a self-publishing venture.

“For the first time in 23 years of working with prestigious publishers, we are now in a position to self-publish,” Quantic Dream said in the blog post.

This new venture will allow us to make decisions in total independence, and to address the technological and strategic opportunities of next-generation platforms. It will also allow us to help other developers, by providing investment and development support, so that they can fully express their talents. We want to support creators of original projects and help them, in turn, to achieve their vision and offer quality, ground-breaking experiences. This is more than an evolution—it is a transformation. We are doing this to preserve our freedom and our independence, to continue working on innovative and even more ambitious projects, to address greater challenges, and to create the unexpected. Quantic Dream will never be just another studio. We want to face new horizons, to keep our passion alive, and keep trusting in the idea of making games that are different.

The wording used by Quantic Dream constructs the idea that, in addition to its own games, the company also plans to publish games from external developers. Though whether that is an accurate take remains to be confirmed.

In January 2019, Quantic Dream announced that NetEase Games aquired a minority stake in the company “to further the development and distribution of global online games.” However, the studio has yet to announce a new title following the release of Detroit: Become Human in April 2018.

“to further the development and distribution of global online games.”

I worry....

Hopefully they have QD to just let them make single player titles...

M meirl Well not really. Sony never owned this team. So we've seen Sony buy a team with Insomniac, we've seen them decline to buy a team with Quantic Dream. It would be like saying we should get used to Sony buying all teams and that would be the norm or something. So its not the first time Sony has decided to not buy a team no more then its not the first time that Sony has bought a team.

Detroit wasn't great but it was definitely their best one yet, so hopefully this move helps them keep improving.
It also sounds like they won't just be publishing their own stuff but also working together with other devs, so maybe something good will come out of that. Would be interesting to see a game with the tech of Detroit but not written by David Cage.

And another PS exclusive going multiplatform.
You guys should getting used to it. This WILL be the norm. :D

???

This makes sense, they were talking about letting other studios use their motion capture equipment and studio space earlier last year. I had a lot of fun with Detroit and I hope that Quantic Dream can continue to hold the torch for adventure games in the AAA space. Hopefully the new direction works out for them.

Now truly anyone can press X to JASON!

Now it's possible to press A, RMB and someday even b to Jason. Transformation is an understatement.
