Future Playstation Games could release to PC

Wow. Where were GAF posts about this article from the summer?

Shawn Layden is already right.... MLB is going multiplatform. I'm sure he already knew about the deal but kept his mouth shut.

Just a matter of what's next for full fledge releases (not PS Now PC streaming now like God of War, UC etc....), with the current two big rumours being Horizon and Dreams.

My thoughts from another thread.

...But we don't know anything concerning Sony's next-gen plans, so how can you say with any modicum of certainty that they have abandoned, or betrayed their supporters? Honestly, how is a 3 year old game like Horizon arriving on PC affecting PS5 , when PS5 players will inevitably be getting Horizon 2? You're treating speculation as fact, and even if the rumor turns out to be true, it's unlikely that Horizon 2 will arrive Day 1 on both PS5 and PC. More than likely, Horizon 2 will arrive at least a year after it releases on PS5, or after the game's sales have plateaued on PS5. Changes like these were hinted at, or said prior to these rumors however. MLB: The Show was the biggest indicator of an emerging ideology at Sony, but Shawn Layden also said that Sony acknowledged the failings they had with a lack of multiplayer games this generation. You don't have to look very hard to see that Fortnite, Minecraft, and other free-to-play multiplayer titles are dominating popular culture, so at the very least some of Sony's future multiplayer titles were destined to be offered to a wider demographic.

HZD has run its course on PS4, and won't sell a sizable amount more in present PS markets so it makes business sense to offer the game to a new market segment and make money near effortlessly, especially with Decima Engine being on PC soon with Death Stranding. Sony would be foolish to leave money on the table like that. PC also isn't a direct competitor to consoles, so PS5 sales aren't jeopardized so long as Sony opts not to release exclusives on PC Day 1. I think that's how Sony's strategy will differ from Microsoft's and protect their hardware business. Just think for a second, why would Sony invest billions in hardware R&D only to cripple the product of that expenditure? That strategy benefits MS because most PC gamers are Windows users, and if someone opts to forego a Xbox because they have a gaming PC or will build one, MS will still benefit because there are less inroads for them to build with all the different gaming initiatives they have available to PC players. So whatever they lose in hardware sales they'll recoup in software and player engagement with their ecosystems. The untapped market of PC gamers, who are supporters of software that have had staggered releases, helped to drive Sony to this decision. MH:W is proof-positive of that. As long as PS5 gamers get the games first for supporting that platform, and can keep their sense of superiority, I think that's all the will really matter in the end.

It sounds like Shawn was referring to multiplayer games going to PC and if Sony values their IP like they say, their games won't release on PC until 6 months - 3 years later like HZD

There might be a few exceptions like Dreams

Either way, I'm excited for the PS5 😃

its old and we know this already tbh .. and come on more than 4 threads talk about the same thing its ridiculous just update one of them if any has more info

Yes, it is old as you say. But I wonder why it's such unbelievable news today? As I said all along, the writing was HEAVY on the wall all last year and it seemed to have flown right over people's heads.

There are some SP games that have MP modes. I'd lean more towards the 6-month to 1-yr gap if I were you.

I have no issue with what has been told by Shawn I only have issue with the number of threads that talk about the same thing , there is should be a thread about this subject and should be updated with time for the games that confirmed to come to PC

Great news. Sony games do benefit hugely on PC. The extra graphical power will enhance the atmosphere for many of their linear games. Dreams will unlock its true potential, Also the much needed attractive Ellie mod for last of us 2 will become reality very soon, with more weapon choices, enemy type and even adding multiple routes/endings. Ghost of Tsushima too needs a huge character art overhaul. Look at how omega force did to make characters of Japanese history appealing, PC modders will make it happen. Finally I’ll get to enjoy their first party games and not just watch Once and done on YouTube. Few weeks ago I’m still thinking Sony hit their rock bottom with the way they make games, this turns it all around , Praise the sun, Amen PC the almighty gaming savior!

Definitely think a year is the earliest that you'll see an exclusive arrive after the PS5 release, but at the same time I don't think that Sony will establish a regular release schedule whose pattern can be discerned. I think it'll be arbitrary and not every exclusive will necessarily arrive on PC. That would serve to keep people from jumping ship to PC and just waiting for releases. That's how I would protect my hardware business, tap into a new market, but still give PS5 owners/loyalists preferential treatment. It's kinda how the latest Android OS updates will release first on Google flagships, and then on the flagships of other makers with some vague window of release.

Deciding factor will probably be how negatively it'll effect PS5 sales.

If it'll hurt it badly, it it's likely they'll backpedal from this decision.

Time will tell.

I don't see a problem with 6 months to a year, that would definitely make my choice of sticking with consoles easier because PlayStation makes some of my favorite games and I'm not waiting that long to play them :)

So Sony has a big possible speedbump ahead of them, how capable are they of creating a PC release and will it be up to snuff with a Microsoft release.

Your method is most likely how things will go. They will keep their biggest titles to themselves, maybe releasing one or some years later, and maybe titles that could use the extra support like Gravity Rush, Dreams, and multiplayer games may be selected for release on PC. That's all that can be extrapolated by anything Shawn said. It's stupid to think all PS5 games will be there same day or anything less then a year. Some people can only think about self serving outcomes instead of logically.

You know, all Sony has to do it make it so you buy the PS5 version, which gives you "rights" to then play on PC.

Think of it like a linked account. If you buy a PS5, there should be a seperate store front on PC and any game you buy can be played on both.

unfortunately doesn't make him any more rational then the average schmuck on GAF

I too am an industry insider (Vetted)

I wrote mines with a fancier font so I outrank him.

Wow. Don't hate the insiders just because you don't like what you hear. I didn't make the decisions.

"We must support the PlayStation platform - that is nonnegotiable," Layden told Bloomberg. "That said, you will see in the future some titles coming out of my collection of studios which may need to lean into a wider installed base."

So, my problem remains people pretending this signifies the end of exclusivity, looking at the wording here I'm not seeing that. Maybe it's been eroded a bit? And maybe this is a slippery slope? But this isn't comparable to what Microsoft is doing right now.

I'll be happy as long as Bloodborne and possible future Sony/From collaborations get ported over. Bought a console just for Bloodborne last gen, and it's not something I wanna do again.

Put Gran Turismo 1 2 and 3 on GOG you heathens.

Past Gran Turismo games are completely out of reach. 2 years ago they even delisted 6 from Playstation Store. You can't buy 1-4 as Playstation Classics digital version either. I guess that mainly due to licensing reasons these games might never return in any form on any platform.

This was from last year, and we already know Sony isn't opposed to releasing certain games on PC. What's not going to happen most likely is all of their games relasing, and day-and-date like with Microsoft. My Guess is that Sony will sign an exclusive deal with Epic Game Store, to bring select PlayStation titles to it exclusively.

Don't think too many PS gamers want a Play Anywhere type of system.
Basically nobody, I have two Switches for mobile play.... More than enough.

If Series X is giving a more powerful system and PlayStation think they no longer need exclusives, then I'll go to PC till they learn.

I'll take as many with me as I can too. They need a real slap in the face.

Why do so many western journalists want Sony and Nintendo to follow MS with every move that they do? Especially considering MS is making the least amount of profit out of the big 3. :pie_thinking::pie_thinking:
That bellend works for Eurogamer, I consider them highly biased towards Xbox. Always have been.

Infact most of the media are purchasable and therefor easily swayed to Microsoft side at the biggining of a new generation.

Happens every generation.... What a coincidence!

As long as you buy Sony games on PC, I don't really think Sony cares. They still get money. I'm sure Apple prefers you buying all their gadgets direct from their store or website to maximize profits. But oh well. If you buy it from Walmart, that's good too.

There isn't much profit in hardware. Just top line sales. Margin wise, they kill profits. Every hardware maker is similar in electronics, with exception on Apple where their prices are inflated, but still get tons of app sales.

Money is in software. That's why when it comes to tech companies, the software based ones can have ridiculous profit margins and stock prices. They don't have millions of $400 systems being sold at cost.

You're assuming I don't buy a single other game.... Or subscribe to ps+.
I have over 250 games and have subscribed to PS+ all generation. All my exclusives are special editions or collectors edition.
I also spend a lot on peripherals.

So now do the maths and see how much they are losing.....
It is highly profitable customers like me they will lose first with this strategy.

The one game a year, Fifa fan will stay with PlayStation and cost them money....

Yes Sony does. Sony has been making money on selling Playstation hardware for years now. Both PSVR and the PS4. Not sure about the PS4 Pro.

There's 100 million PS4s. There's something like 200 million Steam accounts. And like other cmpanies, they can come out with their own launcher to maximize profits.

For every PS4 user that actually packs up, ditches the PS ecosystem for individual Sony game sales on PC, there's probably 5 steam users that don't touch consoles that can suddenly buy PS games on PC.

Another thing about PC gamers too...... they sure seem trigger happy buying games. PC gamers seem notorious for backlogging because it's so easy to buy games. These can lead to big sales even from gamers who don't even bother playing the game or barely touches it.

You are also a user who is super entrenched into PS, with tons of games and subs. You are really going to give that up if X is more powerful and PC gets Sony games? Really?

Sony first party games also have high production values, so they will require a good rig to get the most out of it. No 5 year old PCs with Windows 7 kind of thing. So you'll also have to spend $$$ to make sure your PC rig is up to snuff.

And you're going to ditch PS5 for all this?

It doesn't make financial sense, PlayStation is the biggest video game company based on revenue and profit made from the sector.
Why giveup millions of sales of Fifa, Cod, RDR, GTA, Battlefield etc etc etc.

They should be buying studios like crazy and making everything exclusive....

Capcom, Bethesda, Bungie, Remedy and everything else they can.....

Consolidation of their position.

Makes sense what you say, but if that's the case, why have PS Now on PC where you can play God of War, UC, Horizon, Bloodborne etc....????

Why do multiplat MLB games coming in 2021? Just because the league might have forced it (not sure if true)? Just say forget it and don't support anyone else then.

I agree, I think streaming is shit and they paid a load of money to buy Gaikai and now they feel they have to persue it to get a return on investment.

The MLB thing is acceptable if there is external pressure being exerted. IMO

We can agree on that. Streaming is shit. Even doing wireless on my laptop is shittier than a corded connection. But I do because I don't want an ethernet cord going across the room.

Game streaming will only progress so all of us might as well get used to it. Mobile revenue and profits are huge, and that comes form people playing on a tiny screen using their data plan. And millions of gamers are fine with it. The next step is all this Xcloud and Stadia kind of stuff.

It really comes down to the core gamer at home on PC or console using their wallet as the most powerful tool to determine what comes next.

Sony might go all out on PC. But if the dollars drop, they'll backtrack. If it's a success, they will continue even if it means stepping on the toes of loyal gamers for 20 years.

Apple did the same thing to hardcore users. Mainstream revenue is too good to ignore. They rather sell to 100 grandparents who barely can use the iPhone than keep that group of 5 hippies happy who stood by them with old Apple IIs and Lisa.
