Bungie Teases Potential Destiny Movie or TV Series.

In a recent interview, Bungie creative lead Robbie Stevens and narrative designer Nikko Stevens discussed the future of Destiny and seemed agreeable to an idea that should make many gamers very excited.

When asked if Bungie would be open to considering a movie or television adaptation of the series, Stevens replied simply, “Anything is possible.” Though this is definitely not confirmation of any such projects in the near future, the response shows that the development studio is at least open to the idea.

Just wait and see how the Halo series will become a huge flop and you'll change your mind. Besides people don't even play Destiny for the story or the lore.

Tell me which one of your favorite 'story-based-game' has multiple dedicated lore channels.

So which Youtuber is going to put this together? Cause Bungie doesn't know how to put story into their games, or make any of their NPCs even remotely interesting. I hope the whole movie is just guys running around shooting things with blue engrams littered everywhere

Destiny 1 was brilliant. 2 was more of the same, and I think they missed a few opportunities here.

But people love to shit on stuff, so, yeah...

The worlds turned into such a shit hole. I don’t like what you like so you must be wrong... yeesh...

It's got failure written all over it. They want to make a big budget sci-fi show, but Showtime is a small premium network. Plus the show is very different from what Showtime clientele is used to - you know, shows like Dexter, Homeland or Shameless.

Yeah sure, I get it. You know about this more than the guys at 343i and Show Time.

Its not even a good game, so why make a show on a shitty game?

"The Witcher 3 is now more popular on Steam than it was at launch."

Basically if these shows can work as an effective advertisement for the games they are based on then I'd expect to see more of them.
If it's proven to be profitable then I could see more publishers going for it.

Destiny has a potentially interesting sci-fi/fantasy story going on there so who knows.

Yeah, no. It seems to me that you really don’t know how people are so much into Destiny’s lore. It’s deep and great too by the way

What do people play Destiny for?

You can't sell expansion DLC to a TV audience so I doubt they'd be interested.

Looks like the base game of Destiny 2 is free to play right now though?

So if they launched some kind of Netflix series in time for a free to start Destiny 3 then they might be able to work something with that.
I dunno.

They dropped the ball with Destiny with all dlc and story feeling somewhat incomplete without dlc.

They were basically giving away Destiny 2 cuz nobody cared about it. I didn't even add it to my library when it was free with plus.

The Witcher 3 brought more interest in the game cuz it was a great game. So when people who watched the show look it up, they see all the praise and awards it got. So people are diving in.

Nah, W3 had lousy gameply. The lore seemed to make up for it. People who hate on destiny treat it like a single player story based game - which it really isn't so.

Ignorance is bliss and such.

White ball lore
So deep 👌

Destiny 1 and 2 have quite a large lore/story if you want to bother with it. Most people dont, that is true, however for fans there is a lot of cool stuff in there especially pre-destiny 2. Destiny 2's story besides Cayde was absolute mediocrity.

I can’t see anyone other than the most die hard Destiny fans given two you know what’s about this. And I can’t see how that’s enough people to support a project that would probably be immense in size and budget given the world.

I hope they forgo the bad CGI and just dress people up in costumes as the oversized bosses, Power Rangers style.

Destiny has one of the best, if not THE best lore in the videogame media, way better than Halo so good to hear this, even if the thread title imho is a bait, this is absolutely not a teaser
Btw, I'm waiting for a Destiny TV series ( a movie could be too small and limited to represent it, even with high budget ) since forever, it has awesome potential

Edit: ok the best is a bit exhaggerated but still

Look at the witcher, tw3 had a spike in popularity after netflix started its series and tw is a relatively niche franchise
Try to imagine what could happen with a sci fi war and action setting like the Destiny one, with similarities to both Halo, star Wars etc.

Destiny as a TV show or Movie would not work, theres too much to parse, and alot of it are whispers of lore rather than direct Lore in its story telling, it'd be like a Dark Souls show

What it really needs is Novels, telling the stories of the past ala the Halo novels

It might work..... if they actually try it. On the games the story is completely missing, it's not even a matter of being good or bad, it's just not there and it's inconsistent..... in the events of Forsaken for instance:
after the death of Cayde
with Zavalla and Ikora completely not participating on the Revenge/Save the world quest because of “reasons”.... And in many other situations... Bungie doesn't give a shit about the lore of Destiny in the end of the day. Also, they killed the most iconic character of the game and did not even try to make another good one. Destiny is such wasted opportunity on the story side.

Well, I do give a shit about it. The lore and different plots are fantastic. However, I'll agree on how storytelling in the game is really weak.

Great lore, correct storytelling. Weak plot. Well... Just opinions anyway.

The lore in Destiny is great. But it’s not often delivered thru in-game cinematics. It’s just text. Its best delivery is YouTuber “my name is byf” who at this point should just be a made an actual in-game NPC lore master .

D1 arguments about Destiny not having a story is nonsense as are most Of the 6 year old arguments about the game.

there’s an obscene amount of text in game currently. I’m actually not opposed to the lore going back to just being found online because of memory concerns.

I don’t see them doing anything with feature film or tv with it tho. Not anytime soon as I doubt bungie would give up any resources not currently working on Destiny 2, Destiny 3 and the new IP they have going under wraps.

The first episode is free, 9.99 for each subsequent episode, but better watch them quick as they disappear at the start of the following season, because fuck your money.

This. This is why most people say Destiny's story is poor because.... well... it is. The story-telling is poor. The lore and world building are not.

In response to the OP. I would definitely be interested in a show, but I think it would have to be witty and action orientated. The type of lore in the game I just don't think suits a show. Of course it would also have to have well written and memorable characters, which are in short supply in the world of Destiny. Characters like Cayde-6 are an absolute must.

Take for instance Forsaken. The campaign was a simple revenge tale.

but that wasn’t even the story of the expansion...

what was? The post-campaign. Going to the dreaming city, and discovering that you were manipulated by Savathun to kill Riven in the raid and be tricked to curse the dreaming city. Like I know all about Riven, how it was found, what a wish dragon is capable of and how it was corrupted and made into a taken beast by savathun. I know what the Nine are, they’re dark matter... never communicated thru in-game dust scenes or dialogue... text? Yea

Most people have no idea who Savathun is... the witches’ name is in a strike and who’s influence has been hinted and scattered about in the game and lore for two years.

I don’t mind the story elements being light In-game. It’s meant to be uncovered by those looking for it.

I sorta blame Bungie’s design philosophy for this. Because they want players to go into activities more than explore a narrative. Each year, each season, they do some cool things with it.

I would argue tho... that since there is a ridiculous amount of text and world building in their lore... I mean you pay these folks to write it... and it is a lot (just take a look at the text anthology books on google for an idea)... they should cut down on the text.

This season’s lore revealed the existence of Dark Guardians. And I only know that because of YouTube ... because each time a new piece of loot drops, I do not read the one page script on its description page that has all that lore.

And even tho yesterday’s exotic quest was shit... the dialogue between Shaxx and Saint 14 was one of the best exchanges ever written in the game. ALL OF IT... hidden
