Xbox Series X rewrites the rules of console design - and the power level should be extraordinary

its just powerful but now its mostly meh to use due its exclusives are on pc too.....the true power of console are its specialties such as exclusives to show its true power of being closed machines now its exclusives are now going pc this one mostly lost hurt on this console.....think the games will be superior on pc that showing graphics standards...if they gonna want more sales on these console then make a exclusives thing for Xbox Series X only(such as exclusive functions, graphics or anything to make more that exclusives games more unique version than its PC counterpart think like that Dragon Quest 11 that switch version has more unique feature unlike its PC/PS4 version even though they are same but some exclusive on switch make more sell like cakes too even sub-par graphics)

as i tell you.......Xbox Series X is good console on details but its games are its weakness if they notice these games are important then xbox series x will have sales (and to me Xbox GamePass is a just gimmick to tell they have games but in reality or just digging to the past library that you never get or never heard of that MS thinks it will worth your time to play yup those games are good but in future....the games are counted are in future not in the past itself even there is a deals for new games but these make game developer hurts on their knee.....xbox games will slow game sales that cause more games delayed or some waiting for budget for next sequel will thats my guess) but multiplatform games due we are on age of crossplay)

Dont worry they'll fight off God of War 2 with Cr4ckdown

No but seriously I'm right there with you man. Its time for Mechassault, Ninja Gaiden since Itagaki is back, Mercenaries next gen and while we're fucking at it a new Splinter Cell only for microsoft

oh and fable

and we'll go full circle as always since the first xbox

Ok if we are really being honest with ourselves here, do we really think Xbox is going to be the only console that rewrites the rules? I'm sure Sony is gonna bring it. In their own way.

PS5 will also be huge, will also pack a ton of power. The only thing I'm not quite sure of is the Variable Rate Shading Xbox has, because of the patents. Sony definitely won't have this. However, how much of a difference will that one feature make? It's gotta be something that the developers take full advantage of. Combine this with the supposed increase in power...I mean, I guess it just boils down to price for the power and the games. I'm hyped for both systems. Senua's Saga is a DAY 1 purchase, along with Halo Infinite. Godfall will be on PC so I'm still waiting to see what PS5 will have exclusively. I'm saving for both. If one loses my interest, that extra money goes to upgrading my PC.

Cooling a 4.2TF console should have been easy for Sony and they still failed to get it done.

MS’s engineers fit a 6TF APU throwing off more heat into a smaller console and still got it to run cooler and quieter than the Pro.

The only excuse we got was that the 1X came out later (as if that has anything to do with the cooling options that were available to Sony’s engineers for Pro).

I’m glad everyone thinks PS5 will be more powerful and I don’t actually care as I’ll own both eventually but if I see a small PS5 case with claims of 13 or 14TF there is no way in hell im buying that day one.

Sony was already behind in cooling and the fact that even the newer models of the Pro still sound like jet engines leaves me wary.

Show me a bookshelf with a cord Sony! I’ll kiss each dollar as I turn it over. Otherwise I’ll see you in 2021 my friend.
That actually might explain the crazy looking V-shaped dev kits. That will be their cooling solution design for the actual system, hmmmm.

Xbox One OG was also more quiet than PS4 OG. And PS4 was more powerful.

So it looks like it has nothing to do with which system has better specs.

All I can see is a standard box shape like Xbox lead to quieter sounds than PS4's razor's edge design.

I did not see any PS4 Pro dying for bad cooling...
So what they failed again?

I don’t know if any died but I can’t deal with the noise. I just don’t trust Sony’s engineers to pack that much heat in a small case. The job they did on the Pro was too disappointing. If I see a small case I wait for reviews.

Variable rate shading is not an MS thing, it's an AMD thing, an Nvidia thing, an Intel thing...….All of these GPU manufacturers will have it in 2020...….VRS is part of the RDNA 2 featureset…….

I do hope that MS have a line of differing powered Consoles as showing off the console early could mean that Sony will up their specs in kind within the year.

As for the design.....I am not a fan of it simply because it looks like a Windows PC Tower....which is a minimalist design and doesn't seem very artistic. I know it has its fans of course, and would look great in any Living Room with Art Decor, but I guess I wanted to see MS have some "Fun" with the design. I liked the OG Xbox and 360 looks but thought that the Xbone is pretty bland. (same with the PS4)

ps3s disaster wasnt 600$ ps3s disaster was the cpu and memory plus coming late than the 360 its never been about 600$ same with xbox one the disaster was weaker hardware that costed more than the perfect ps4, one more thing i dont believe about lockhart since series x is 2x xbox one x then lockhart would probably be meaningless.

Ah, I see. I didn't know that. So we just need to wait and see if it's also in the PS5. Duly noted.
It's only included in AMD's RDNA 2 (second tiers) and the rumour confirmed by Digital Foundry is that MS waited long enough with the production of thir GPU to include that AND introduce their variant of it, the patented version. They clearly think it's a very big deal. The mystery remains if Sony did anything similar but people who browsed all of their patents haven't found anything VRS related.

I enjoyed reading the article, but ultimately did not get much out of it. I finished with the impression of "this machine might knock your socks off with its power, but we really don't know for sure if it will be as powerful as rumored, and if it is that basically means its better than most existing high end tech, so if it is expect it to be expensive unless MS eats a big loss on console sales."

Honestly not trashing the article in my intent. I hope they keep this stuff coming. Just feels like more confirmation that some of the knowledgeable people around here are arguing up the right tree, than actual new info.

Cooling computer components isn't rocket science. The PS4 Pro wasn't noisy because Sony was incapable of designing a better cooling solution, but because they thought they could get away with it, and the console's success proved them right.

This.... Sony have just been more cognizant of the expenditures on hardware and cutting certain corners to make good hardware tht doesn't break the bank and reaps most profit. The PS3 did a number on them. This time around expect a great equilibrium between latest tech, form factor, power, price, etc since they've recovered and more from ps4's success. This will be a premium, affordable console, relevant to power and price. Thy will take a loss, just not a huge ps3 one.

So you're saying that even if Sony does have it, it can't be the exact thing Microsoft has going?

It could be if they licensed it from Microsoft. But they could decide it's not that big a deal and just go for the generic version that Nvidia uses (we don't know what exactly MS has customised about it). Or they could also not have it at all, that's how it looks at the moment.

I think Sony has this in the bag.

They not only had more quality exclusives but also managed to eat MS’s lunch by moneyhatting so many third party exclusive stuff like COD and Destiny.

I would expect this to be an absolute white wash next gen as MS is playing catch up and Sony have been holding back a ton of stuff for next gen simply because they don’t need to show their hand yet.

MS cancelled sooooo many titles this gen yet released garbage like ‘Recore’ which died and will simply not get a second chance.

Sony built new IP’s which will continue into next gen.

It’s a wrap.

console Visual design has been quite boring for a while.

I don’t see how this changes that.

making it bigger helps with thermals so that’s always a good thing.

It's gonna be funny when xbox fanboys bring home their new console. They'll suddenly question all those fights they've ever had with the master race as their new tower sized console stares back at them and says, "We're one of them now."

I like Microsoft, but they've been caught fudging specs in the past and on one occasion, out and out lying (Remember Albert Penello on this very forum? I member)

I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox is 12tf and the PS5 is 12Tf, except the xbox is the 'weaker' 12tfs and the PS5 is the more powerful 12tf and we see a repeat of this gen, where Microsoft used obfuscation to send a message to Joe Public that the xbox one and ps4 were the same. "we both have 8gb of ram!"

Fanboy console shit aside, I see the Xbox being better at multi-tasking/streaming and I see the PS5 being better at running games and ultimately aiming for 'more power' so they're prepared for the PSVR2 demands.

Microsoft won't make the same mistakes as this gen and will launch a powerful console. Sony won't make the same mistakes as this gen and will launch a quiet console.

this is almost 10 years ago, they already changed the WHOLE team, even on executive level! even your beloved Albert Penello IS GONE!
there is NO REASON to believe that the same is going to happen again, you see what happened to those, who did this: THEY LEFT MICROSOFT!

It was six years ago. They changed at an executive level from the peak of the 360 days to the Kinect/One era, they have previous. If you get food poisoning at a restaurant, you vow never to go again. If you see "under new management" a month later, you're still skeptical about trying the restaurant again.

Although, I hope you're right. I get no pleasure from them releasing fake specs, crap games and PR excuses for why they messed up. I do get pleasure from them releasing a powerful console, quality games and genuine community interaction.

talking about fake specs, have we forgotten Sony's claim that the PS3 was a 2 Terraflop system?
that was in their specs reveal. 🤣🤣

Everybody is talking about how Sony learned from their fuck ups with the PS3 13 years ago, but heaven forbid that people remember Microsoft's attitude 6 years ago?
Right.

?!?
Sony has bunch of patents describing the same as VRS, both for VR and non-VR, they are simply not named VRS (image compression by display, region, variable data compression, etc).
I browsed several of their patents earlier this month about it, this is from the summary of one of them (copied from a post I made at the time) :
Compression of the one or more transmitted images is adjusted so that fewer bits are needed to transmit data for portions of an image outside the one or more regions interest than for portions of the image within the one or more regions of interest

Right.
I am very confused 🤔

It's a goal post thing, you talk about fake specs and he wants to pivot to "Attitude" lol. The 2TF claim was so ridiculous that not even the next gen PS4 could reach as high as that ridiculousness.

How sure are we those benchmarks where Sony? Maybe Oberon and the likes where Scarlet ... as Richard mentioned pushing clocks at 48 CU! Maybe it where Lockhart! Anaconda...
