Red Dead Redemption 2 PC [OT] - “Vengeance is an idiot's game”

I'm still wondering how this will run on my PC (GTX1080 Ti - I7-7820X and 16Gbram). Might actually go for it. The game should keep me entertained for (much) longer now that I can have KB+M controls.

I wish I could get back into this for PC, as I really did enjoy myself on console, but it's such a slow burn and I don't think I can stomach any more hillbilly-speak or the nonstop DUTCH! ARTHUR! DUTCH! ARTHUR! =_=

I had a blast on Red Dead ONline this morning, you guys need to be checking that out asap if you haven't already. Posse'd up with a random to do some hunting for his trade company. I got xp for my own trade career as well. We were camped in Cholla Springs, did a resupply and sales mission as well. Trading tips on weapons etc. Good times

Yeah, RDO is great. A great change of pace from GTAO where random deathmatch is all but certain. There are still a handful of people that treat it as such (especially in the new PC release), but there's always Defensive Mode in case you run into those kinds of folks while minding your own business. And if they still try to mess with you while you're in Defensive, let them hit you once and then you can retaliate with 100% damage dealt while they deal a fraction of damage. That'll teach em. :p And if they still, somehow, manage to kill you while in Defensive, you can press charges which will put a hefty bounty on their head.

Edit: Forgot to mention, to turn on Defensive Mode, press L (or left on controller dpad) and then go to Online Options.

Am I the only one using the xbox controller on PC? I tried keyboard/mouse, but I just felt the various keys to access things was clunkier and slower than using the controller. In fact hunting is a bit easier for me to put the aim on flying birds etc. Just feels smoother to me, though to be fair I played quite a lot on the xbox so maybe I'm just used to it. In the GTA games the kb/m feels better, but for some reason the controller feels better here.

Right, Epic and Rockstar exclusive.
Unlike The Division 2 you can still buy it on Humble Bundle or Green Man Gaming, which was something Epic stipulated for that game. Basically all Epic paid for was to keep it off Steam for one month. While I think that's even scummier in a way I don't think that really qualifies as exclusivity. Besides, who wants to buy this on Steam anyway (or Epic). Rockstar still makes you install their launcher and you're basically just waiting so you can double up on DRM.

You are still buying a Rockstar/Epic key, exclusivity also applies to groups because they are excluding everything that isn´t part of the group. And I´d rather buy from a storefront that puts costumer reviews upfront, they can be very useful as it was demonstrated when Rockstar tried to block mods for GTAV.

Sure, you're still buying a Rockstar/Epic key, but that's not the point. Stores like Humble / GMG often have sales or discounts when the main storefronts don't. There's no Humble discount at the moment but you can get 8% off on GMG if you're a VIP member (which really isn't all that special, you just have to use them semi-regularly and you'll get in easily). That wasn't possible post launch with Division 2 because Epic insisted it be pulled from third party sites on release. Fair enough on the reviews, I just personally think waiting on this one isn't worth it. I hate Epic as much as the next guy but if you're gonna buy it in a month you might as well get it on RSSC now in my mind.

Discounts don´t matter unless you are hunting for them, I´m looking for the storefront that charges rockstar the most so they see less of my money.

Use what feels best to you. I prefer a controller for a lot of games. I've mostly been a console player until a few years ago so the controller feels better in my hand than using KB/M. I'm sure KB/M aim is much better but in a game like RDR I'll take the hit for a comfy controller.

Does RDR Online have private sessions yet? Only thing I'm waiting on, tbh. Have had my fill of the SP, but don't want to deal with random douche nozzles in online if I don't have to. Would rather just run around with friends.

I don't think they're ever coming unfortunately. Even in GTA they've done everything they can to make them useless. Still, if it's anything like GTA you can just cut your connection for ~10 seconds and it'll boot you into an empty lobby. If you have open NAT type people often rejoin though, but you're on strict the lobby generally stays empty.

I'm really interested to see how this runs on Stadia.

Will it run at the highest settings? Has there been any previews or discussion surrounding this? It might end up being the best place to play it.

Just turn on Defensive Mode (press L or left on Dpad then Online Options). Most people won't mess with you, or even notice you since you'll show up as a transparent blip on their radar. Some people who don't understand Defensive Mode might still try to kill you but they likely won't succeed due to Defensive greatly reducing damage. And in the unlikely event that they do kill you, you can press charges which will send bounty hunters on their ass.
It's much better than it was at launch where you couldn't even fish in peace lol

The guy seemed particularly careful about not over praising the game or being too hyperbolic about it. I don't know if that's a thing or if he's reacting to some community backlash to the original review maybe? But overall a good synopsis. I probably would have been a little more positive or vocal about PC being the definitive version of the game with the enhanced graphics, unlocked framerates, additional content and option for kb/m control. But I don't disagree with anything said in the review. (just the lack of enthusiasm, I guess)

I'm enjoying the game now I've dropped some of the lighting quality it gave me back like 10-15 frames when in the camp now so it's in a playable state. Was even able to stream it without issues too. All off the same CPU.

I use both. Mouse/keyboard for combat and controller for when other odd issues raise their ugly head. This port is a massive step backwards compared to GTA V. Some keys don't even function in the clunky AF UI. Still, I'm loving the game. It's Rockstar's best yet (IMO, naturally).

I'm using the Rewasd software to map two of the Xbox Elite paddles to toggle pressing W and another to toggle Left shift. This makes running and riding a horse over long distances so much easier as it's basically auto pilot. I'm glad they allowed for Controller and kb/m simultaneous use, I wish all games would support this feature.

Does Arthur still automatically put his weapons away while on horseback and resets the type of ammo selected or has that been patched? Anyone know?

Beautiful and great game...but a game that I cant play. :( My PC has been stabile from the start and every software/game has been working great. Even Prime95 with AVX can be run hours without problems. Red Dead 2 is the only thing that just keeps crashing. At first it didn't even start but the first patch corrected that problem. I've tried to search for a solution but to no avail. Can't pinpoint it to a single hardware issue as it seems people are having similar issues be it with NVIDIA, AMD or Intel. There must be something fundamentaly wrong with the game itself.

i seem to be on the lucky side , I have played RDR2 for about 20 hours and i haven't had a single issue. the game is fantastic , Rockstar really are a fantastic Game Developer.

I hope Rockstar sorts this out for you guys who are having issue's , Its totally unacceptable for a consumer to pay good money for a product then either wait for it to be fixed or to search for fixes themselves.
