Don't forget Housemarque.
Yes, they are incredible.

I was also thinking that PSNow suits a certain type of content. If you want to keep people subscribed you need an episodic type of content and IO interactive with Hitman could do that type of thing.

Telltale games would be another one for PSNow type content.

I also think Bungie would suit that type of delivery method and could do with support of being a first party.

Then for console, full game releases they should have Housemarque, someone like CDPR and Remedy.

Sony are due to make nearly 8 Billion this year and they have over 26 Billion in cash and equivalents, so I really think they should snap up some of the financially weaker candidates right now like Housemarque (as you said), IO and Remedy. All that could be done with debt financing, since debt is so cheap right now.

Holy crap this is huge for him.

Imagine being a director or producer of a game development studio and being asked to become an executive at your parent company. Dreams came true for him so he deserves congratulations!

Seems like a great choice to replace Layden, he perfectly knows how to manage a dev studio and make great games.
Also the fact that they're having a new plan to actively support indie developers and Yoshida is taking care of it is really nice as well.
As a side note it's interesting that SIE is now basically run by european executives, there were people talking about them only caring about the US for the future....it's clearly not the case.

Glad to hear about Yoshida being head of their new indie-focused team. They've focused on them a lot less in the past few years, with almost no indie exclusives and many skipping the platform altogether, so hopefully this will improve the situation since indies are mostly all I play anymore.

Maybe they can remove the censorship BS now that the Americans are gone.

You think Hulst will be more hands off than Yoshida? I have my doubts, but there is a bit of a chance.

It’s a really good move to put someone in charge who knows the development side of things as opposed to a suit.

Wasn't Yoshida the one who said something about Hardcore Gamers are a "niche" market? Think that has anything to do with this?

he set up a great studio and his studio managed to go from a shooter franchise to a great rpg that sold over 10mil copies! + I think he is an amazing business person and is good in making connections with others. Perfect fit for this role! He experienced a blessing of sony to do a full overhaul of the studio and chase their dream of doing something else while being giving all the time needed, he wil be great I think for other developers

Forget Killzone, now is the time for MAG to return. Online gaming is much bigger now and the infrastructures are much better. Guerrilla could do an amazing remake/re-imagining/sequel of MAG.
:messenger_grinning:

Sure, I'd take a massive online multiplayer shooter like MAG but I like the Killzone art style and lore. Why not make a huge massive online multiplayer shooter like MAG but set it in the Killzone universe? I never played MAG but I remember the art style being pretty boring.
I think they should def do something different with the Killzone games but they don't need to let the IP die.

The new guy is cool, but Yoshida-san has been in charge for so freaking long that i don't know what to think. Hopefully nothing gets broken.

Shu will be responsible for indie dev stuff all around Playstation, reporting directly to Ryan.
That's really his passion project, and I'm sure he's happy with that development.

Sure this could be fun for Shu, I'm just saying that this is a pretty big shake up, WWS have been under Shu for a really long time.

I remember talking to Herman back on the killzone.com days. Before they even had a forum for killzone 1 they had this rough work in progress message board and he would regularly join in and take feedback and ideas on how to improve the game. He seemed like a real chill dude along with the rest of the team.

Killzone was the sole reason I got back into hardcore gaming because the concept, atmosphere and story really captivated me and I saw huge fucking potential in it. Me, Wollan and a bunch of dedicated killzone fans would log in and discuss killzone for hours.

Killzone 2 is still my favourite fps ever and I am pretty sure he was head director of that too. Not sure what the hell went wrong with Shadow Fall though..

Fuck things were so simple back then, no political agendas shoved down our throats. No sjw in sight. They went from testosterone filled killzone games to whatever the fuck alloy is.

HZD is the big thing right now but i dont thing they will abandon killzone completely

KZ is their staples and bread n butter thats like saying 343 studios quit making Halo game

So you dont need to worry about that

Killzone is over dude. I hate to say it.

Says who? Just because a new ip is a new hit doesnt mean the other is being abandoned

Mercedes wont stopped producing C and A class car just because they have S class car

People are quick and easy to judge and forget

Theres never been a guarantee the next hzd game always gona be a sucess

what im saying is you should never put all your stuff in one basket

A good businessman will never invest/rely only in one/certain things

I want KZ to come back, but I'm afraid they've run out of stories to tell with that IP. I hate that the games never dug deep enough into the background lore of the series though. Maybe they can do a prequel.

A prequel would be ideal or some kind of Helghast civil war story. The art style and lore of the Helghast is the best part of the franchise and the thing that helps to set it apart from all of the other shooters.
I hope we see more.

A Helghast Civil war game with a gritty tone and 4K graphics with the Decima engine would and the AMAZING Killzone music would say 5 million units just from the advertisments alone!!!

We have a lot to thank @yosp for during his time at Sony so far. If it wasn't for him, Cerny wouldn't have gotten hands on the playstation devkit as early as he did. He was also the brainchild behind the ICE team. PS history would be somewhat different..

Yeah Kudos to YOSP, he did great work, but I guess SWWS needs someone now with a bit more energy, someone younger and passionate...…..Soon lots of the older guys will be leaving Sony, many have already, we have to look now at the younger brass.....Herman Hulst will push top notch graphics and stable framerates like n one before him.......A tech guy at SWWS, means they have geared themselves for what will be the most transitional of gens relative to the amount of console power we are going to get........Next gen will be the most important for lighting, physics and Ai development in games....and also a transition to 60fps for most games....

Was he responsible for Killzone Shadow Fall?
A good portion of the game has amazing level and encounter design, I bet that if it was given a few more months in the oven it would have been ine of the best fps ever made (well maybe the story could not be salvaged, but the game itself definitely had something going for it).
