Rumor: Dead Island 2 Releasing in 2020 as a PS5 and Xbox Scarlett Launch Title.

Honestly not sure what I can get out another comedy zombie game, but I'll probably still play it just so I can immerse myself in another post-apocalypse. But like, Dying Light is basically what Dead Island shoulda been. I don't expect anything great here.
Maybe they'll blow my mind with some real killer combat. Make it a manic zombie-slaying gorefest, with gameplay less based around fighting to survive, more on spree-killing the undead. Heck. I could eat that up.

Great move, but i hope 3rd person mode already available from the start.
Now give us princess of persia & sprinter cell (delete tom clancy's name) sequel ubisoft.

I guess by this point, it's safe to assume all previously announced games with no release date or that will be released in 2020, will end up on next gen, either as launch titles or 4k remasters...

I'm looking at you Beyond Good and Evil 2, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2 AGOTYLWWEDT (already game of the year like who will even doubt that) 4k edition

There's also the possibility that BGE 2 will never release, so it's pretty safe to say it won't release for this gen.

It is one of the best times to launch a game to get more sales.

A lot of Indies got good chunk of sales in the first year of PS4 and Switch due the lack of big titles.

When the big titles start to release regularly the Indies just become irrelevant... so if you want to get the most sales for your game try to take advantage of launch consoles.

Sounds ok. Yeah I be a lot of currently announced games with no dates are being prepped as cross gen or next gen launch window titles.

Heck I think Skull & Bones has become next gen only.

There's absolutely no reason to get excited about this annoucement until they show any kind of gameplay, especially since Dead Island is not the kind of game you should be able to make with a small budget.

I don't know why anyone would want this. Techland improved Dead Island so much with Dying Light, and Dying Light 2 seems to be another step up.

Dead Island 2 would basically now be Dying Light with no Parkour.

Got the first game and Riptide on a whim while they were on sale. Thoroughly enjoyed both but thought the first was the best. Great fun running around with a bladed/throwing build. Guns are for pussies.

I’ve got dying light but haven’t played it yet.

Will keep an eye on this.

I am looking forward to seeing what Dambuster Studios does with it.

After numerous updates I found Homefront to be quite enjoyable. They hit their stride with the post DLC beyond the walls.

That sub-polygon displacement seems interesting....First thought I had when I read that was Soldier of Fortune though...…..When are we getting a new SOF......I reckon Kotaku and other all those other journalist who have endeavored to "save the world from all this emotional trauma and those damning artistic polygons" would tear such games a new one though "All that Gore", "done in bad taste" et al....

I still remember a time when games like SOF, Leisure Suit, Phantasmagoria, Heavy Metal Fakk and many games with all types of mature content and dialogue existed without all those Kumbaya injections to this industry's vein....

Meh, wasn't a fan of Dead Island. The first was already mediocre so it's hard for me to get hyped for a sequel. Dying Light already perfected their zombie formula IMO

I'm looking forward to this. Odds are with the troubled/extended development it'll be a stinker, but maybe they'll surprise us. I'm really curious if they can pull off something with its own identity. I see some people saying why would anyone want this since it's basically dying light without parkour, but we don't really know yet what it's going to be. And this implies it's not possible to have a good zombie game without parkour. As great as Dying Light really is, I think there is room for other zombie games that don't utilize the parkour mechanics/level design. I'm willing to give this a chance. By the way, Happy Halloween everyone.

Despite being in development even longer, there's still no sign of another important Koch release: Dead Island 2. The game was originally being worked on by the series' creators at Techland, before that team moved onto Dying Light. It passed to Yager Developments in 2012, to Sumo Digital in 2016, and earlier this year to Dambuster Studios, the Koch-owned developer staffed by former Free Radical and Crytek employees.

Has such a tumultuous history, and the inherent delays, damaged expectations for Dead Island 2 at all?

"My favourite question," Kundratitz laughs. "Look, Dead Island is a very important brand for us and we've got to get it right. It's just a testimony of our dedication to get it right.

"It's a great story to tell everyone that it's on its third studio, but we like to be judged on the end result and we're really confident that when it comes out it's going to be a kick-ass zombie game. We'll certainly give it all our power."

Despite the split over the original iteration of Dead Island 2, Koch still retains close ties with Techland -- in fact, it's distributing Dying Light 2 when it launches next year. But Kundratitz insists there's no conflict of interest here.

"It would be conflict if we were launching on top of each other," he acknowledges. "But that's not going to be a problem.

Dead Island 1 was one of the most disappointing games......that reveal trailer was so epic but the game turned out to be nothing like that!

You think so? I thought the game was actually better than I thought it would be, I mean, the reveal trailer was all rendered and gave no real insight as to what the game would be like. Other than it's an island and there's zombies. It wasn't AS emotional as the trailer, that's for damn sure. But I actually thought it was pretty damn fun, albeit it was clunky AF. It ended up being very successful as well. That rendered reveal trailer was one of the best video game trailers though, it was SO good.

I'm gonna go watch it right now, haha.

Honestly though if and when DI2 comes out, I don't think a lot of people will really care. I mean, Dying Light came out and added a similar experience but it was much more polished.

Don't get me wrong, Dead Island WAS a really fun game. But the reveal trailer was SO different, that with those expectations set......disappointment was bound to hit. I need to go watch it right now too!! Lol

When was this revealed? 2014?

Literally a whole gen has passed and no signal of this game, I'm surprised it wasn't canned yet
