P.T. ( Silent Hills ) was released 5 years ago - Never forgive, never forget

The mishandling of not just Silent Hills but Silent Hill as a series overall is the greatest tragedy in gaming history, full stop.

First the original developers were dissolved and then a series of subpar entries were churned (only one of which was any good) and then when Kojima tries to save it Konami slaps him down.

As such a fan of Silent Hill 1-3 all I wanted out of gaming was one more game on their level and I never got it, PT seems to show promise, but nope.

But this was 2014 keep in mind, in fact PT released around the time Gamergate hit and gaming culture started to shit itself, 2014 was when reality started warping and the worst timeline emerged.

Silent Hills wasn't only going to be a first person experience... The larger outdoor areas were going to be third person optional as they weren't really "scare zones" and the more compact areas / scare / story zones (Indoors, alley ways, etc) the camera would move down into first person, like something was coming above to take control of you, or see through your eyes. Some of the investigative ideas were borrowed from Condemned (Although they didn't work in the same way) and there was actually quite a bit more work done on Silent Hills than people may think.

The TGS trailer they showed later on was pretty frightening. I wonder what Konami did with all the assets/story boards.

KOMANI KOMANI posted it already. I just can't get over it. Junji Ito on board as well. smh So much talent. What a disaster to have happened. Unless of course it was going to flop and the one-shot pieces were made to trick everyone into believing something so big could be made. We get films like Avatar, that boast such high profile talent. Then when a video game does it, its either overhyped or it gets cancelled.

It would be difficult for them to use anything but the main storyboard as most of them are short stories that involved specific locations and families... Unless they turned one of the short stories into a full game, which I guess they could do, there would just be a lot of filler.

I think something is happening.

  • Konami has filed a new trademark for Silent Hill in Canada.
  • This trademark is separate from Konami's ownership of the Silent Hill franchise.
I would be down for an HD collection with Silent Hill 1 redone with modern graphics on the fox engine.
Kazunobu Uehara is a long time Konami (mgs) programmer who returned a few years back (2017) from a stint at Namco (Ace Combat). Upon his return, he was promoted to general manager. Why is this important is what you’re asking. Well, cause the project he’s handling still hasn’t been announced. Maybe things are happening.

It's going to be interesting to see if people can figure out a way to get this onto PS5. I wonder if we can restore a Ps4 backup onto Ps5.

It's great that RE tried to replicate some of this demo. But yes, it was great and the idea of the full game will be sorely missed by gamers. :(

It looked very generic. Nothing is more cliche than a female ghost with long black hair.

Why couldn't Kojima make it under a different name instead of giving us this Death Stranding crap?
Because he doesn't like horror games as he gets scared pretty easily. Also, Death Stranding is currently exploring many of the concepts and ideas teased in P.T., but from the perspective of an action adventure game.

I feel cheated by having brought ps4 after P.T was no longer available....
These fucking konami idiots could easily put this up on psn for 5usd and earn some extra buck for free

And get sued by Norman Reedus’s people

Jump Scares: The Game.

They nailed the atmosphere, but I wouldn't want to play that for 10 hours. But then again I don't see what's fun about getting scared and I've never understood why people like survival horror games so it doesn't matter what I think.

Konami still sucks for canceling this game. It wasn't my thing but people were genuinely looking forward to it and it could have (or WOULD have) been the best game in the series. Here's to hoping that Death Stranding surprises us and becomes a horror game halfway through.

The full game was unlikely to have much in common with the demo beyond the tone and atmosphere. You wouldn't pay Normal Reedus to make a first person game for starters, it seemed poised to at bare minimum make use of the whole town, and obviously the gameplay would be more than nonsensical puzzles designed to pad an hour+ a single hallway.

I agree, and his attire was akin to that of Harry Mason's so it definitely would have had a more Silent Hill feel. I'm just not a fan of jump scares.

It's funny because Death Stranding is like P.T. in many aspects, from the trend of umbilical cords, it seems like this game served as tons of inspiration for Death Stranding.

It wasn't that jumpscary as far as I remember. Couple of instances where the chick does a quick motion, like when she's in the window or closes the bathroom door are jumpscares, and of course when she neck's you it could be a jumpscare moment, but most of the time it was pretty straight spooky and terrifying. When she's looking down on you from the second floor and slowly backs away. That iconic shot of her in the weird pose in the hallway with the shadow cast over her. The constant oppressive audio, and the cue that plays when she starts roaming, prepping you to gtfo. That's the big one, 'cus instead silence prepping a jump, it does the Silent Hill heavy audio weighing you down with terror thing. That's no jump, you know what's coming.

It was very well and deliberately crafted horror, even in that bite size. It really hit me once RE7 did its hackjob knockoff with the ghostbros teaser. Obnoxious assholes+bumbling around in the decrepit shithole from Texas Chainsaw Massacre's remake. Oh look, viscera in the fridge, 'welcome to the family son'. The gulf was astounding.

I liked it for what it was. Never been so scared of something or someone in a video game before. I got to the first jump scare where she grabs you and couldn't pick it up again.

Like I said I'm not a fan of survival horror games. I'm not a fan of being gimped but I can at least appreciate the lore/atmosphere/craftsmanship that go into them.

Silent Hill isn't a game made for social media aspects in mind, it's supposed to be a mindfuck horror game :/

That's not true. Silent Hill is a series that's known for tackling diverse themes and given how Hideo Kojima likes to talk about stuff that's happening in our current society with his games, I can see how our dependency on social media could've been one of the themes of Silent Hills, because P.T. already teased at a modern setting for the series' reboot.

Don't toy with me like this! RE7 proved that a franchise can be brought back to life by going the PT route. Now I need to see his original vision for PT realised.
