AMD Ryzen CPU Gain A Mammoth Market Share Versus Intel’s Core Lineup – Ryzen 3000 Outselling Intel 4 to 1, Ryzen 7 3700X Sales Eat Up Intel’s Entire L

"The latest market share and revenue report for AMD Ryzen and Intel Core processors are in from Mindfactory (via Ingebor) and it looks like the red team has got a major win on their hands. Based on the figures from Germany’s biggest retail outlet, the report shows that AMD while consistently topping Intel for an entire year has now surpassed them with an unimaginable and record share.

It has been almost a month since the Ryzen 3000 series processors launched. The processors hit the market on 7th of July and so only 23 days have passed since their arrival on retail shelves yet Intel’s worst nightmare has come true. AMD not only crushed their rival with a market share of 79 percent but the recorded figure was also the highest in a year for the red team. Intel, on the other hand, managed the smallest market share in over a year at just 21%.

Running down the sales figures in details, AMD’s recorded share of CPU sold at 79% was even bigger than the first generation Ryzen and second-generation Ryzen launch. Of the AMD Ryzen 3000 series CPUs sold, the Ryzen 7 3700X was the most popular and the chip alone sold almost as much as Intel’s entire Core lineup. The Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 2600 followed up and the reason was due to the incredible value that the 6 core chips offer plus the amazing discounts on the Ryzen 5 2600, putting the chip under the $150 US range.

The Ryzen 9 3900X sold higher quantities than Intel’s flagship Core i9-9900K since it offers more cores and multi-tasking performance than the 9th Gen Intel offering. The Ryzen 7 3800X was the least popular Ryzen 3000 series part but that’s to be expected since you’re getting almost the same amount of performance on the 8 core Ryzen 7 3700X for a much better price point.

When it comes to revenue from the sales, AMD managed to grab the most share at 75% while Intel had a 25% share in July. The most revenue came from Ryzen 7 3700X because it also sold the most quantities while Ryzen 9 3900X came out second. While the Ryzen 9 3900X didn’t sell as much as the Ryzen 7 3700X, it does cost a higher $499 US price tag which reported for higher revenue. The AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs are also facing minor shortages in select regions due to their immense popularity, however, the average sales price of AMD CPUs has seen an increase of a whopping 50% during the launch month which is impressive.

Lastly, we can see the share split between Intel’s and AMD’s lineup. 50% of the AMD CPUs sold were Mattise or Ryzen 3000 series based, 32% were Pinnacle Ridge-based, 5% were Summit Ridge-based while the remaining 3% were Threadripper HEDT CPUs and APUs. Intel’s share included 70 percent Coffee Lake Refresh or 9th Gen CPUs, 27% Coffee Lake or 8th Gen CPUs, and the rest of the 3% were Skylake-X and Kaby Lake 7th Gen CPUs.

In the end, all I want to say is that this news is absolutely fantastic for AMD and it shows that more consumers are replacing Intel CPUs with newer Ryzen processors that offer better features and a lot more multitasking performance while delivering single-core performance on par with the rival Intel chips. AMD has completely demolished Intel and with the Ryzen 3000 victory, Intel is more or less ‘Outside’ of the leaders camp."

What surprises me the most in all this is how previous generations ryzen hold their value so far
Let's be clear about the following:

1) That is only Do It Yourself market.
2) Which last time I've checked it was about 16% of the total market.

Still good news though.
Do you know how Intel holds the OEM market? They basically bribe company management to keep their prominent place, however it doesn't seems to work nearly as well as it did back in the Pentium IV days (it's one of the factors that made Dell look so big back then).

It is notable that neither Ryzen 1, nor Ryzen 2 had shined as bright.

Not anymore. And even decades ago, Compaq was eager to embrace AMD chips (but got punched by Intel). I don't think Intel dares to strongarm companies the way it dared in the old times.

Enterprise wants stability. Every year that AMD consistently continues to roll out good products (doesn't need to be great, good is enough) increases the chance of them being considered

Well, in Brazil almost 99% or OEM are Intel. I send an email for DELL Brazil, but no answer at all. I was looking for a notebook with Ryzen, but here? Intel everywhere.

Great news. Intel need a kick in the butt.
Lets hope AMD does the same thing to Nvidia.

Competition is always good for consumers.

Is this only for Germany or is this worldwide sales?

Regardless of, it makes sense. Even if an intel CPU equivalent is faster, it's not fast enough to justify how much more money it cost to buy it. If you were to tell me I could buy a CPU that's $100-$300 cheaper and the only caveat is that it runs 4% slower, I'd easily go for the cheaper option. Hell, in some cases the 3700X was shown to be better than the 9900k.

I was expecting that, there is almost no reason to get any of the current Intel CPUs over Ryzen according to most reviewers.

Intel still has no competition for emulation, and amusingly, emulation is still one of the most CPU demanding tasks out there.

Great news. Intel need a kick in the butt.

If AMD doesn't, I hope Intel does next year. Sick of Nvidia's shit.

good on AMD but i bought a 3700X and it has caused me nothing but trouble. i really don't want to buy another Intel CPU but i just want my PC to work properly and not crash constantly. get your shit together AMD if you want to be taken seriously.

i tried EVERYTHING to get it working but nope. ended up returning/selling the parts and i've lost a lot of money thanks to it. I swapped out every part except CPU so don't come at me "Oh my 3700x works PERFECTLY!!!!!"

Nice. Next build can wait until Cyberpunk 2077 comes out. Will most likely be going with Ryzen + Nvidia.

Not surprised. AMD sells 4:1*

*in a retailer in Germany where they were already 2:1 previously
*in the month of their biggest CPU launch this decade
*not counting laptop sales

Intel still dominates the laptop market. I'd be shocked if AMD was actually selling more consumer CPUs (desktop + laptop) than Intel since AMD has a weak presence in laptops and they have no 7nm CPU to compete this year against the recently launched Intel Ice Lake laptops.

So I had an older Intel board that could only support the 7000 series Intel chips. Started getting very CPU bottlenecked with my 4 core(no HT) 7600. My option was to pay $400 for an i7-7700k with 4 core/8 threads for $400, get a newer intel board and 9900k ($600) or pay $500 and upgrade to an x570 board and an 8 core/16 thread 3700x.

No brainer.

I'm team Red on my mobo/cpu now and I'm loving it. CPU utilization in games isn't getting over 50-60% and the stutter has been fully smoothed out. I'm only limited by the GPU/Graphics settings now...

Productivity/Video editing are SOOO much faster now.

LOVE IT!

I've been waiting for something like this - I've been loyal and only built Intel ones (well, just a few rigs) over the years, but my last build was like 6 years ago. I've been using my 3930k mildly oc'ed to 4.3ghz with 32gb RAM., and have been just midly upgrading the GPU..

Not much of pc gamer - but I needed many cores and threads, but never really felt that would justify such big pricetag. Just sheer number, 12 core + 24 threads for 500 dollars (which was about the price point that I paid for my 3930k) - that justifies my interest.

Only if I can find the chipset and all - I am all ready for upgrading.

Well done, AMD, and wake up, Intel!

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
I don't have a problem with this, PC Gaming will make sure there's no room for competition between them and consoles.

Fight? I simply posted facts.

Knowing that they were already 2:1 at that particular foreign retailer (with the caveat of not including consumer laptops, where Intel leads) it would have been a failure for Zen 2 to not increase that a bit during it's launch month.

Don't expect much (yet), there are a few laptops with Ryzen mobile, but OEMs are basically Intel monopoly, especially with the mentality "AMD is power hungry shit" by uninformed people, its going to take some time.

I was luck. I get in 2011 a Samsung notebook with AMD first generation APU, with for the price and that time, works very good for me. In fact, I still using right now for using internet, play old games, counter strike, etc...
Brazilian are not the most 'smart' people in that departament. They believe in every shit they read on internet, and thats why they don't pursuit others notebook cpus than Intel. Its kinda sad because AMD just sell CPUs here, none OEM sell AMD notebooks here and its very unfair for Intel selling in every store, online store, etc...

Yes, just wait for the July report or perhaps even the end of year report to see the progress AMD has made with laptops and OEM's..... I'm thinking they will make good progress there as well, but I suspect AMD will really make huge gains when they launch their Ryzen + Navi APU's... If you watched their E3 presentation, pretty much all the major PC and laptop builders are on board now, so the progress there will have to be analyzed and judged a bit later.

We're actually seeing serious gaming laptops with Ryzen these days. That's something I've literally never seen. Intel's dominance of laptops and servers, which is where the revenue is, has been so absolute for so long that it's weird to see Ryzen laptops.

If Google actually switches to AMD Epyc Rome as has been rumored lately then it will be a like an earthquake in the server/datacenter space too. We're talking the shaking of worlds here if a big customer actually makes a switch like that.

i've got AMD stock, so if this was actually true it'd be great. but it happened at one retailer in Germany, the headline is incredibly misleading

In Canada it's still pretty hard to find a good OEM laptop with an AMD chip inside at retail, we must go online. I didn't look for desktop, but something tells me that you may still find more i5s than r5/r3 and more i7 than r7... Which is bad, these machines mostly aren't sold to gamers, so thse people should gain from an AMD CPU.

Pretty much its just amd playing catch up to intel.

However the 3600 and 3700 are nice chips and frankly its the price that the 8700k and 9900k should be sitting at.

All this indicates that Intel prices are just to expensive on intel chips and that phasing out a 6/12 core was a bad idea over a 8/8.

I also wonder how there gpu's are doing.

comparing the release window of one product to mostly 2018 products probably isn't relevant

neither is comparing overall market share on steam surveys which is full of ancient hardware and make no distinction between high and low margin parts

You think it's only in Germany? The reports from other regions will take some time to trickle in...…..However....

"According to a recent report, AMD's processor sales are accelerating in Japan, reaching 68.6% of direct sales."

And a bonus vid about Mindfactory sales.....
