Cyberpunk 2077 launches April 16, 2020 - Keanu Reeves Announced

Keanu Reeves is a fucking distraction, breaks the 4th wall for me. Hopefully he dies soon after you meet him.
The man is universally loved. He's not a polarizing figure in any way, and won't scare a single soul away from this game. Granted, yes, it's been doing just fine gaining positive press and fanbase hype prior to this reveal, but he'll surely just bring that extra (positive) attention to it.

One of the German journalists from rocketbeans.tv asked the devs and they said he would have a fleshed out role with lots and lots of voiced lines

Which doesn't mean you will meet him in person. CB2077 needs high life to be represented by something. Like interviews, reports from places etc. So Johny could have a lot of stuff for him but this could be for example something just to fill in cb2077 highlife sphere player watches from his dinky apartment in tv.

Bloodlines and gta5 had whole hours of interviews, night shows etc filling radio space.

Having keanu reeves is a dumb immature decision. instead of everyone talking about the game. we're talking about keanu reeves.

I don't think so generally , but I do worry why they showed CGI in the start of that trailer and why they have STILL a closed door demo at a event like this even in light of a release date announcement. So in THAT respect.....yea, I might have a bit of a issue with him being in the game as it sounds like its being used to hype and have in endorse the game vs actual gameplay and real features.

So I'm a little worried. So overall I don't think him being in the game is bad, simply this timing is questionable and makes me wonder if they are trying to use this type of celebrity to sell the game vs gameplay, a demo etc.

Why hide it behind closed doors, CGI and well Keanu Reeves?

They will have public sessions, not only closed door for media.

I really like Keanu... in the real world, in the movies. What I do not fucking understand is why they needed to put him into a 100% fiction game? They have fuckin great looking characters, so the only explanation is: stock price, guaranteed sales. Well, it is a slippery slope if you ask me. Plus if they include him, include his young self, from Matrix or Johnny Mnemonic not his current, known face from the John Prick series.

Also:
The protagonist (?) guy looks like a grocery store salesman.

Some people need to relax, we will surely get gameplay, but after it is shown on E3. To media and to visitors.

There's a secret CDPR message floating around where they say they'll show gameplay after Gamescom, in August.

I just think showing a CGI trailer - which, by the way, they didn't care to explicitly label as such, so that many people thought on the spur of the moment they were watching a beefed up gameplay demo - showing a CGI trailer at this point, when you're announcing a less-than-a-year away release date makes little sense.

Sure, we got a few snippets of real gameplay at the end. Seconds of it. Contrast this approach with how they handled TW3. You got a on Microsoft stage gameplay demo with developers playing the game, that showed UI, dialogue, exploration and combat. This was at E3 2014, roughly one year before release. That didn't stop them from hosting a private lengthier demo for journalists.

Even though they're PR masters, as the Keanu move proves conclusively, after the 45-min gameplay demo from last year, this seems like a step backwards.

I'm sure they will but my point is simply why are they still doing closed door sessions AT ALL at this point? The game is coming out spring next year, so its questionable why its being shown behind closed doors and a famous actor is now suddenly in the game and on stage and CGI is being shown.

It just tells me they are trying to sell this with something other then actual game footage and its very worrisome considering this is the same team that had no issue lying about that downgrade for months regarding Witcher 3, only to release it and wait til it was already sold before admitting what many of us already knew.

btw Witcher 3 launched on May 19th 2015, they admitted the downgrade May 20th 2019. Since that movement, I lost a considerable amount of respect for the team and question many things they do. They choose to lie about that, they choose to only wait til it was in consumer hands and money was in their pocket and the media was talking about the release and folks where busy with the game to deliver that news. So....when I'm hearing CGI, a famous Actor out of the wood work is marketing the game and its now being shown behind closed doors even with a release date, what do you expect me to think about a team that launched Wither 3 with so many bugs and issues on top of lying about the downgrade?

So something could be up, wouldn't be the first time with this team.

"we will surely get gameplay, but after it is shown on E3. To media" ???

So give us CGI, an actor to hype up the game and kindly hand over money for a preorder, but hey the fans are not good enough to actually SEE THE DEMO OF THE GAME? Soooooo they are at E3 to collect pre-orders, but not at E3 to actually show the public the actual game?

Yet you wonder why they waited and collected soooo many sales before telling folks about that downgrade huh? How do you know that isn't what they are doing right now and why they are not showing it currently?

"The gameplay last year didn't scream "downgrade me!" Downgrade from what? The first time you saw gameplay of Cyberpunk was last year........

Time will tell, hopefully we will know soon.

I am quite hopeful, to be honest. The gameplay last year didn't scream "downgrade me!".

It's a fair question, especially in light of TW3 downgrade.
True, last year's 45-min demo was nothing spectacular in terms of graphics. There seems to be little room for a downgrade. But who knows.

The game is coming out spring next year, so its questionable why its being shown behind closed doors and a famous actor is now suddenly in the game and on stage and CGI is being shown.

Yes.
One would reasonably expect that after the 45-min gameplay demo, they'd go on stage and play the game live for a few minutes, just like they did with TW3. That'd be the natural progression.

It just tells me they are trying to sell this with something other then actual game footage and its very worrisome considering this is the same team that had no issue lying about that downgrade for months regarding Witcher 3, only to release it and wait til it was already sold before admitting what many of us already knew.

Yes, their behaviour during the Downgrade debacle was atrocious on several fronts. One hopes they've learned their lesson well.

To be fair, in the secret message that's floating around they mention revealing gameplay after Gamescom, which isn't that far away.

I suppose people will be on the lookout for any possible changes in graphical fidelity. I was expecting Microsoft to showcase Scarlett's capabilities with Cyberpunk 2077. They chose not to.
Too bad.

So something could be up, wouldn't be the first time with this team.

"we will surely get gameplay, but after it is shown on E3. To media" ???

You've got to realize this makes sense.
Why else have a stand, a public booth, invite media, Youtubers if they're not getting anything special? Why invest all the money if there's not going to be any return, namely in word of mouth>?

The only way to guarantee that is to give media something the general public won't have access to yet.

But the case could be made they could have done what they did with TW3 and duplicate their Microsoft on stage live gameplay presentation.

So give us CGI, an actor to hype up the game and kindly hand over money for a preorder, but hey the fans are not good enough to actually SEE THE DEMO OF THE GAME? Soooooo they are at E3 to collect pre-orders, but not at E3 to actually show the public the actual game?

I followed the whole Downgrade fiasco very closely at the time.
They were warned in the most explicit terms possible the backlash would last for years on end. Maybe most people have forgotten it, maybe most people simply don't care.

But that ghost will keep revisiting.

i don't mind him being in the game but i do think he'll not be appearing much. he'll probably only show up in a few cut scenes. he glitches in the trailer so i assume he's dead and also the character Silverhand seemed to be active around 2008/2009 but the game is set in 2077 meaning he'd probably be 90-110 years old if he were alive. it's probably just an AI version of him stored on a chip. maybe V used that chip as an implant and therefore Keanu is the voice of V's AI.

my theory is that the mission we've seen in the gameplay demo + the trailer is near the start of the game. you do the mission for Dex to get a chip. at the end you get Silverhand's chip and it opens up all sorts of new gameplay features.

I do wonder with the back compat situation whether being able to pull a GTA V is now off the table. If you buy it for Xbox one then get the next gen Xbox, do you need to buy it again? This could potentially annihilate their sales projections if they were counting on being able to copy Rockstar and essentially sell the game twice. The only thing I could think of would be to charge for an enhanced edition which they have never done before.

hidden message in the trailer:

Finally, after months of preparation, we can share with you two big things we have been hard at work on — CP2077's cinematic story trailer and a brand new gameplay demo! Yes, yes, we know — for now, the demo is only available to the lucky ones who managed to get tickets to E3 and the rest of you will have to wait until gamescom or the public dev Q&A unveiling stream at PAX in August. Yeah, we can already feel the bashing you're gonna give us online :(. "Why are you not treating us fair", "why is the gameplay not being released right away?". The reason is we want to make the most out of the months of work we put into the demo and first showcase gameplay live at E3 and gamescom. Releasing gameplay right away would make the gamescom presentations pointless and would significantly limit our chance to build hype. Why do we need to build hype? To get more gamers interested in CP2077 and, hopefully, convince them to give it a go. We are putting our hearts and souls into making CP2077 a great game and we would like as many gamers as possible to find out about it and experience its amazing story. Also, hype can turn into sales (after all, we are not a charity), and good sales allow us to grow, take creative risks and deliver new, great games for you to enjoy.
And let’s not forget about one more super important announcement — the release date. Less than a year from now, on April 16th, 2020, you’ll finally be able to sink your teeth into Cyberpunk 2077.
As you probably noticed, we prepared 2 editions of the game. Why only two? Because when we pre-order ourselves, we don’t like to go to Wikipedia to compare content. We have a simple deal: there’s the standard edition, the one we think most gamers will choose, and a limited Collector’s Edition. While we're pretty proud of the CE, we'd like to turn your attention to that first one. Why? Because we have really maxed out the physical capacity of the box with goodies. We think this raises the bar for "standard" and we hope you'll think so, too. Also, since pre-orders are live, you might be wondering if there’s any point in placing an order now. Yes, if you want to give us some extra support. Pre-orders help us build anticipation — the more copies you pre-order, the more likely it is for us to get retail (both digital and physical) behind the game. Therefore, if you like what you see, we will appreciate you "voting yes" for CP2077 with a pre-order. If you are still hesitating though, we would rather you wait for more materials or reviews. Our goal is for you to truly enjoy CP2077 and not regret a pre-order.
Take care and looking forward to seeing you in Night City! CD PROJEKT RED team

Man how many times in last years demo did they have to say "this is not the final product" for people to not yell "downgrade"?:messenger_neutral:

I'm not gonna lie, that release date hit hard. The next 10 months is going to be looooooong. :messenger_pensive:

I have a dillema now. What platform to preorder it on?

I prefer to play on PS4, but I feel it will note be optimal, as I have the base version. And I probably will upgrage PC from RX580, maybe also from Ryzen 5 2600 so it should be no brainer. Still, I really prefer PS4, it is more relaxing for me.

Probably gonna order two after all.

me: I never pre-order games.

also me: I pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2077.

Yeah, I usually don't pre-order but made an exception for this game. For two reasons:
  1. To support the excellent developers and their consumer friendly practices
  2. The game unleashes my inner fanboy that I haven't felt in my snarky shriveled heart for a long time now.

Perfect release period for me. I would have finished doing everything I can in Death Stranding by then.

I think 1080Ti can handle this game np (maybe even in QHD). I don't know which version is it on the video, but it looks kinda dead and flat when it comes to lack of proper lighting, global illumination and a number of object in the environment is also a bit lacking. I can even go as far as to say that... DXMD looks better. Now, there's almost a year left before release and they can fix all this, at least I hope so, but if not, no big deal, as long as optimisation is good.

Very good looking but some weird animation work and questionable VA as well.
Too short to tell.
Guess we'll have to wait after Gamescom.

wasn't this role supposed to go to drdisrespect?

curious what happened there, or if he's another character in the game

Any chance we see graphics like the cinematic trailer on the next gen systems? The opening city scape shot at night was incredible.

That was about exactly how I would have imagined Keanu Reeves doing a game presentation. It also felt pretty clear he had never heard the term Cyberpunk before and the way he relished the word was just delightful.
On the release date, I’m excited it’s less than a year, but also really surprised. VtM: Bloodlines 2 is supposed to come out March next year, so these two games which are probably competing for the same audience are coming out within about a month of each other. Just feels like a curious choice.

Can't remamber if they said anything on the subject, there are character preset in the game or does the game have a character creator?

I'd rather preset tbh, MC in the E3 trailer was hawt

I'm fairly certain there's a character creator, but it's been a while since I've heard anything about it.

Game has a character creator - male/female and preset customisation options to choose and combine, without sliders.

I'm on holiday so not really following E3, but this came to my attention somehow. The visuals in this game look very impressive, but nothing about that trailed really enticed me. What I love about CDP's games is their writing, and neither this trailer nor the last one inspired any confidence in that department. I hope my skepticism is misplaced.

Did you watch the 48 minute gameplay demo from last year?

They're gonna sell as much as Rockstar games, this time.
nothing sells like GTA, not even The Witcher or Cyberpunk. GTA is just a game like, that everyone knows and plays. Its kind of a phenomenon.

Cyberpunk will easily be game of the year probably next year though with 20+ mil sales
