Resident Evil 2 Remake - December '18 Gameplay Videos and Previews

Imo the Game is Gold since weeks. Take KH3 for instance.

Friend of mine works at Saturn Germany. He told me they received the CEs already yesterday. The CE was sold only online by Metro Group (Media Markt and Saturn)

Well, each game has its individual development life cycle.
KH3 is game that was announced back in E3 2013. That's a development cycle of 5+ years.
So ya, it's believable when they mentioned that development of the game finished back in late November 2018.

On the other hand, RE2Remake had a dev cycle of 3+ years.
But still it would have been excessively weird for the game not to have gone gold by now.
I expect copies of the game to be out in the wild, if your friend says that they got the Collector's Edition yesterday.

Oh, and by the bye. I have been thinking about the footage and screenshots that have been released up to this point, but I haven't seen any crows anywhere...
Crows would appear in the corridor where Mr.X was forcing his way in (in the original game).
Maybe they were canned or something?

marvel infinite died in like a year, was a failure. Now compare that to MVC2 and MVC3, which lasted at evo and tournaments for years. Even Mr Wizard said him self, they couldn't get enough people to play it at Evo. Its pretty bad also when capcom pulled it from their own tournaments; just image a company has to pull their own game from tournaments cause no one was playing it. And people are still playing SFV

yep, that's what I meant. Capcom did good with RE7, MHW and will do too with RE2 and DMC5 (I hope), but MVCI and SFV (even if it is much better now) happened, so not so much of a flawless generation for them.

I do have big expectations for next gen tho.

In the video below you will see gore, intestines, sliced and diced zombies, eviscerated and disembowelled zombies, carnage, blood-feast., ways to obliterate zombies and to reduce them to minced meat.
Now this is something else....

Fernanfloo as zombie?

Very interesting video on details and interactivity.

Oh my god, 2:38-2:48 the dismembered zombie was still crawling without limbs.... And it even bit Leon's leg....
It had me rolling in the aisles.

Hats off to the unbelievable ingenuity and inventiveness of the dev team with the topic of zombie physics and overall interactions.

Yeah, I haven't watched the entire video: but this is one of the main gripes I wanted to get into regarding this REmake: the lack of environmental interactivity is quite pitiful. It especially irked me when people started comparing it to the Fox Engine.

Even The Last of Us, which is 6 years old at this point, has more environmental interactivity than this game. It's quite jarring. It's not even just the lack of dynamic interactivity that's disappointing, but the lack of interesting details in the environment as well. That's something that The Last of Us pulled off in spades that adds a ton to the game's lore and atmosphere that just seems lackluster and almost anachronistic in this demo.

A perfect example is the various documents and newspaper articles strewn about the police department - their text is almost all illegible and just become blurry flat textures upon closer inspection.

To me, that's inexcusable.

In The Last of Us (I compare these two because they obviously share a lot of similarities in terms of themes and gameplay design - both games have cribbed ideas from one another [The original RE2, obviously]), the same items would have clearly legible text that would help flesh out what the world was like months or even moments just before the chaos ensued. It really adds to the oppressive atmosphere and stimulates the player.

REmake literally reminds of the original RE 2 in the atmosphere department due to the lack of environmental details and interactivity which is super-disappointing. It actually makes me think less of the engine as a whole and it hardly comes across as anything more impressive than the original GCN REmake 15 years ago.

At least, as far as this demo goes.

Has someone beaten the demo within the 30 minutes? It doesn't seem like it is possible. I kind of wish we could curb stomp zombies like in dead space/ gears of war. Shouldn't be too possible to animate.

First playthrough took me 22 min, second 29:45 (I explored more)

The first time I played it (on ps4), I went over the time limit. The second time I played it (on PC) I "accidentally" beat the demo in around 17 minutes because you simply need to return to the main hall with the key. That's it. That's not exactly an "objective", just a cut off point. After playing this thing (a bit obsessively) on PC again, again & again, I stand by my (early) assessment: it's awesome.

Leon's tight controls, shooting zombies (once I reduced the aim sensitivity), the shotgun, the zombies themselves & how they move, react & can be blown to pieces, the sound, the surprisingly scary element (there are some jump scares), etc. I've played a lot of overrated shit in recent years, but this one seems like the real deal.

I am really disappointed they went with the over the shoulder perspective. I finished RE4 and it was okay but I will never accept it as a full Resident Evil. I was hoping they will make a remake of 2 like they did with 1. But what a fool I am for thinking mainstream gamers these days would enjoy those camera perspectives like in the original games.

I enjoyed RE Remake with its fixed cameras. But I also enjoy RE2 Remake with its over the shoulder view (& RE4 of course). It depends on the game & the sheer amount of precision required in the combat in this title (shooting parts of the body off) means the simplicity of the fixed cameras wouldn't even work, i.e. where it was only "shoot up, down or straight" in both the originals & the RE Remake. Good luck pulling off precise dismembering shots from afar at a fixed angle without a line of sight.

Well see that's where the individual taste comes in. I would rather have fixed camera instead of detailed dismembering shots. I think it added so much to the atmosphere. Now it feels like playing a shooter... And RE4 felt like that for me as well 😕

But I understand, don't want to be ungrateful. Other tastes have to be satisfied too.

As I already said, nowadays I do not understand why we do not get more options from the developers to decide for ourselves in which way we want to play a game.

Would it be so problematic to integrate a fixed camera option?

I don’t think so.

I am not a developer but I think that would be impossible. Isn't that RE4 engine totally different to pre- rendered stuff from the first games?
Or do you mean they should add a fixed camera in fully 3D environment?

Reports say that copies of the game are out in the wild. ( Somebody claims Middle-east). Some images have surfaced.
So stop your grinin' and drop your linen.

I finally played the demo.

Amazing, damn! Everything I wished for RE to be since RE4!

I love the fixed cameras but this is fine too IMO.

That's probably an inflated time as all these prerelease estimates are but with the excessive number of puzzle items I do expect it to be longer than the original.
We have a screen of the S-Rank at 3 hours so that's how long is the game if you go straight to the end.

I just care to see if the spoiler about the intro and Leon being
playable in casual clothing before the original intro
is true or not.

Well that makes it official, that's probably the same gas station where the truck driver starts the zombification, I guess.

Well my theory is that

Leon is wearing civilian clothes and changes to the R.P.D. uniform in the tiny room that is under the Police Station entrance.
(where there's a Brad Vickers poster on the wall)

It was planned in the original RE2 according to scenario writer Noboru Sugimuro but was cut eventually.

—Do you have other stories like this to share, of “the Resident Evil 2 that almost was…” ?

Sugimura: Well, there’s Leon’s uniform. Leon is wearing his Racoon Police Department uniform from the start of the game, but originally he was supposed to start out in his civilian attire. There would have been a scene where he talks to his superior Marvin at the police station, and then changes into his uniform. It’s true that with Racoon City destroyed, the police wouldn’t be actively on duty, so there’d be no real need for Leon to change into his uniform… but we wanted to show his determination to protect both the city and his principles by having him change into his uniform regardless. It was a scene with a lot of meaning. Unfortunately, due to a problem with the CG it got cut.

Hope is true. If so I can give the game a try.

The E3 announcement Trailer showed a storage (you all remembered the cans, bottle and instand meals) this looked like a gas station to me from the beginning.

I am sure it starts there!

Ohhh... So when you beat the game you unlock...

Fixed camera.

Confirmed now it seems. Will be interesting that’s for sure.

Did some datamining of my own to try and corroborate some of the rumors about fixed camera, A/B campaigns and possible bonus modes. There are some interesting things in that demo executable.

Holy shit. Where did you find this?

Rad if true, and the signs are gradually lining up that way.

Technically speaking you could rig up an engine to render a scene from a set of geometry and then cache it for use as a background as per the older RE games, though it'd be a decent amount of effort to implement.

Realistically speaking, just doing a fixed camera in full 3D like Code Veronica would be a lot less work. A few extra camera spawns here, some camera change trigger volumes there, tweak the aiming controls with up/center/down autoaim, sorted.
The biggest cost would probably be the extra testing time that adding a whole new game mode brings.

Screw it, I'm just gonna keep my deluxe pre-orders and buy it on both platforms (PS4 & X1) same day. Get those free steelbooks at best buy + I need to use my certificate. This game is going to be amazing.

Played the demo earlier and streamed it. Got 16 viewers on Twitch from it, the one time only play time makes people thirsty I guess.

I bit the bullet and bought the Steelbook on Amazon for the Elza Walker costume. It's all I wanted from the remake.
