Far Cry 5 Reviews

Looking around on forums and stuff, instead of the biased critics like Polygon, I do hear the ending for this game is pretty shit even by Far Cry standards, which is really disappointing to hear.

You know EDGE reviews are basically all just anonymous freelancers right? Sure it's a cool magazine for gaming history articles and the like, but the reviews are themselves kind of garbage because ultimately at the end of the day if it's a poorly done review (and there have been plenty of those in its history) there is no accountability on behalf of the writers. At least with Polygon and Waypoint, you know what you are getting in terms of their inevitable political angle, and can account for it, EDGE...who the **** knows. As long as the copy is good they'll print it, regardless of how poorly of a job the actual reviewer does. Case in point, IIRC EDGE gave the original Witcher Game 5/10 which was the games the lowest score. All fine and dandy (EDGE is notorious, for being hard), but what was egregious was that to anyone who'd played the game, it was clear from the text of the review that the reviewer hadn't even gotten past the first couple of chapters and into the game proper before submitting their copy.

I'm unconcerned with "political angles," especially with video game review sites.

I hope to write for a publication like EDGE ONE day.I appreciate their high-brow style.

Amazon's in-house delivery service generally gets here around 9AM for deliveries, and they'll be dropping this off tomorrow. I'm so glad I don't have work in the morning.

Ive been watching some of the Vanoss guys like Wildcat and h20Delirious play it and it looks chaotic as hell (in a good way)

As far as reviews go however, i personally prefer the individual reviewers like projared, angry joe and dunkey. These guys give off legitimate points to the pros and cons of games often times ive agreed with them.

Sites like ign however...well, think of it like a lottery in regards to who is doing what. Remember that time ryan (ign's biggest xbox fanboy) gave halo 4 a 9.8 calling it the best halo game ever? 'Cause i do.

To be honest i didn't like 3 either. Maybe these just aren't my kind of game, heh
Feel the same way. I respect what 3 and 4 did, moreso 4 than 3, but i did not find myself going back beyond the story. Farcry 2 is still my fave. This one looks promising tho.

Polygon is having a hard time coming to terms with the political themes in this game, they docked the score on that basis. 6.5/10. Waypoint is bleating too. Nothing like journalists who never set foot in Montana being upset that their stereotyping of the state isn't portrayed.

Safe to write these clowns off in the review department.

A 6.5 from Polygon.

As for why the story is bad...well

That's kind of dumb IMO. The review, not the story. I don't see what a game about a radical doomsday cult has to do with the current nature of US politics. Unless you are equating conservatives with cultists, which is a pretty shitty statement. And I say that as a liberal.

All the complaint made by Kuchera just make me want to buy game more than ever just to spite him.

I skipped all the releases since 3 due to burnout from that single game but I might pick this one up.

Great to see good reviews. I just can't get hyped for another open world game. It's like all that comes out nowadays.

I think I'm most excited to see how the Arcade evolves. Could give the game some legs.

I was trying to be honest when I made these reviews. I sought out Metacritic the moment the idea of creating the thread came to my mind. I thought I'd grab the reviews that felt legit. A lot of these scores might seem like they come from names you don't understand, but I've literally watched places like God of a Geek and Playstation Universe appear all over Metacritic. Obviously they're coming around as being legit. They also get review copies.

I'm glad that you guys or gals have added Polygon and IGN. I also went off the whole corrupt holy man mantra. I didn't do this because I absolutely hate bad reviews, but I didn't have a lot of time today. I wanted to make a thread about these scores.

Completely unrelated..
I dislike some of the views coming out about this game. It doesn't have to be a serious identity. I'm not wanting to relate to every moment of this game and that's because I want to blow shit up too. You can't go out in a real pickup truck and blow shit up. This video game makes it possible and it makes it fun. I'm sick of the Trump nation or whatever American Horror Story did with their last season. I want a doomsday cult type of game too.

Whats' with Austin Walker’s review.. A large portion of it is talking about racism and Trump. It this what games “journalism” is all about these days? Trying to out PC other reviewers? A competition to see who can look down on their readership the most?

Waypoint as well as Polygon can't do review of games without inserting their own political agenda. Its pretty much why Waypoint & Polygon youtube channel sucks and don't get much views compared to a one man show like ACG, or newer channels like Laymen Gaming.

Agreed.

Political agenda is creeping into a lot of sites now. I’m a grown adult with a wife and kids, when I shop for games I want to know if they are fun enough to give me a few hours of entertainment each day, not if they go hard enough against Trump or not.

More and more I feel like gaming sites are insulting my intelligence by pedalling their political persuasions on their readers.

I don't know why the tech sites don't use AIB Vega's for their tests as well......I know they're hard to come by, but surely not for them.....This sapphire Vega 64 beats the vega LC, so it would be good to see how a couple of AIB vega's stack........including the Strix and Powercolor Red Devil.....I think Sapphire has the best Vega card out though...

anyone get ReShade to work?...game doesn't seem to load for me with ReShade installed...error message pops up 'untrusted system file'...does the game not support injectors?...it's not like ReShade is a cheat tool

Polygon has become an inside joke around gamers and when they hate something mostly because of ideological reasons you get responses like that^^

I don't care about politics or circlejerk websites, all i want to know is if the economy in the game is broken or not. SkillUp complained that constantly paying for ammo and the small size of looted money pushes you into the microtransactions, others have said it's not intrusive. Can someone here give me their honest opinion?

I'm only a few hours into the game but early impressions are very positive. Honestly, the story is serviceable enough to set up the action and justify the existence of the world of its characters. Sorry, it doesn't explicitly lay out the case against conservatives and evangelical Christians, but I suppose you have to leave something for the DLC (and I think the subtext is still pretty obvious). Anyways, I've laughed and shaken my head at all the dumb fun a few times, which is about what I want from a Far Cry experience. The world map is outstanding and upholds the high standard Ubisoft established this generation with WD2, Wildlands, and AC:O.

The gameplay is a huge step forward for the franchise. Although it isn't technically a reboot, they've nicely refined a lot of their mechanics and made dropping the mini-map and towers addition by subtraction. The surfacing of side content, main campaign missions, and random map discoveries all flow together really nicely. I've ran into a bit of open world jank with characters and animations, but nothing out of the ordinary for this kind of game. Despite not being super impressed with the weapons, the gunplay itself seems a little more responsive and satisfying at this stage.

Anyhow, we'll see how everything carries over into the mid and late game, as well as eventually the co-op, multiplayer and arcade modes. I'm really enjoying myself and the game is definitely a safe recommendation for any fan of the genre.

Entirely enjoyable and playable without spending a dime or feeling the need to. The only time you are "pressured" to buy something is if you are either A.) Impatient and want that item right now or B.) Want to collect every single skin in the game (which I am unsure if that is possible at the current time with the amount of silver you can get).

How many hours are we looking into including sidequest ? Do you guys think its worth picking up on ps4?

I played 21 hours so far and have one of three regions complete (not 100%, but 94%). So I would guess it's easily around 50 hours of fun or more if you do all sidequests, fishing, collecting, etc.... doing just the main-missions will be a lot faster, not more than 20 I suppose...

They actually are making a great point. A real good story would address those issues.

What bothers me about these political reviews is not that they come from openly biased sources, but rather that they are pretending that they didn't already know that Far Cry is just an over the top and pretty silly game series. Acting like they are disappointed it did not provide a thoughtful and nuanced exploration of American culture relevant to today's issues is laughably disingenuous.

I think it's totally fine to expect more from a game that "ACTS" like it wants display a serious topic in America. They are asking the devs to grow up and hire an actual writer. Put your big kids pants on and make a point!

I know Austin isn't having an issue with Montana not being what he thinks it is. It clearly sounds like the game doesn't make ANY statements about anything at all! Like clearly the people that live there and are shown in the game have actual thoughts and beliefs. How about showing those beliefs in the game and not just have 10 lines and then forgetting everything else.

Because it's far cry. The focus was never the story or characterization, why should that change? From what I gather the gameplay is better than ever, as is the environment. The story is up to far cry 3-4 standards. Also, no towers to climb.

The devs did go to Montana, and study locals mindset there, the towns, the history. It's reflected only in so far as to give the game a theme. Giving it a political stance is not the way you do entertainment. Alienating half your audience is not the way you do profit driven business.

These journalists are upset that the game isn't pushing an agenda that reflects their own. Well good. It shouldn't be pushing agendas. The setting is merely a vehicle for somewhat satirical mass entertainment, not for a political treatise on current affairs as they are perceived by one end of the political spectrum. Ubisoft Montreal wanted to make the game they wanted to make. So they made it. The end.

So you didnt feel like your money isnt enough to buy ammo, weapons and vehicle (not counting skins and with a normal amount of saving)?

I will give props to anyone who can detach their personal political beliefs from review scores. If they cannot, like Polygon, then I give them no attention and try my best to avoid giving them clicks even for guides. They are entitled to review games however they want, but I likewise choose to ignore reviews that focus on politics over gameplay.

That shit isn't even journalism, it's just... I don't even know man, I'm just really grateful that I'm not their target audience.

Because sometimes we would like for the content creators to "graduate" to the next level to make it a better overall game or movie (in this case game). Just because the characters might have had a different belief than me, doesn't mean it would alienate me or others that think like me. It'll be okay to treat the gamer as a grown up.

It's not about agendas at all. But if this is the game that they wanted to make fine! But it's okay for others to not like that and want more. It's cool.

Propaganda is "something more".

If the game is this divisive and that racist Austin Walker as well as other known left leaning sites are up in arms because it’s not what they wanted, then I know I’m gonna enjoy the hell out of it.

Sorry it isn’t Kill Conservative Whitey Simulator 5000 🖕🏻

Well the ending to FC3 was dumb and I don’t even remember the endings to 4 or Primal so it’s not like they set the world on fire either.

Blood Dragon had the best with you riding that corny dragon with the cheesy 80s rocker blasting in the background.

What exactly is "the case against conservatives and evangelical Christians"?

Wouldn't the following be more sensible: "...the case against violent political or religious extremism". I would include anti-religious extremism, within the former statement, as well..
