Work like office work, not anything too impossible to do.

By that line i want to use the PC for gaming too.

PD: i will use amazon, i don't have access to any other type of digital stores.

EDIT: You can get out the Case. I have a mid-tower Cooler Master HAF 922.

This is my suggestion. Build description is here (it's from the builds in the OP).

You'll need to swap out for Amazon as the merchant for pricing. Also, this includes Windows in the build which is a significant cost to the total system at this price range, so feel free to remove that if you don't need a Windows license. Spend the extra $90 you save by not needing a Windows license on a 1060 3 GB or push for a 1060 6 GB. Upgrading the RAM to 16 GB would be another possible upgrade route. Adding a 120 GB SSD for $60 or a 240 GB SSD for $80 would be worthwhile as well.

All Amazon then. GTX 1060 would also make a great upgrade above this if you can afford it.

Congrats, you're gonna be happy. It was the right move, Volta is a ways out and this is a huge boost from a 970.

Good buy, man.
If I went with a higher wattage PSU, I'm pretty sure I would've took the extra £100 plunge on a 1080Ti despite only having a R5 1600. Just for the sake of it.

Thanks, really looking forward to getting it into my build and putting it through the paces. Currently have a MSI GTX 970 installed in my Ncase M1 ITX case and was looking at just going MSI again, but apparently the dimensions on the MSI 1080ti require a slight modification to the M1 to make it fit. I love this case too much to go hacking at it or cutting into it. The EVGA has been tested and fits like a glove with no issues, so...first time EVGA owner!

I'll tell you once you've built it and pushed the power button :)

Looks like a solid build though. However, I have to say I'm generally hesitant about sub-$200 displays. Have you checked reviews?
Haha! My case just came in and I’m already getting itchy. The S340 Elite is gorgeous. I did! And while they seeemed favorable, I decided to pay the extra $50 or so to get the ASUS instead. I guess I just didn’t update the parts list for that :<

Not quite PC build related, but this kinda fits the topic (and the mech keyboard thread is practically dead).

Any recommendation on a more premium/expensive mechanical keyboard?
RGB is a plus as I'm often playing late after I get home from work. Currently using a 88 key/TKL Auckey keyboard with Blue Outemu switches that I got for about 16 quid. Would prefer to stick with a TKL.
It's a nice keyboard, especially for how cheap it was. I like the switches too, but would prefer something quieter, with better build quality and definitely some key lighting so I can see what the fuck I'm pressing.

Open to any price range, but would prefer to pay around £100.

Looking at these two at the moment.

For anyone that is going with Coffee Lake, what CPU cooler are you going to get?

I'm likely sticking with the tried and true air coolers which I've never had a problem with but I'm open minded to AIO liquid coolers. The Corsair Hydro series seems popular but there are so many horror stories and random bad reviews that it makes me want to stick with air.

I don't overclock and if I'm sticking with air, I'm looking at the Be Quiet Dark Rock 3 currently but open to other suggestions.

Anyone see this Linus vid on RAM speed and if it really matters?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_Yt4vSZKVk

The numbers are pretty shocking. It seems like 3200 is about as high as you want to go and even at that speed, it could give you stability problems. Apparently Intel only recommends 2133 and no more than 2400.

I was likely going 3000 or 32000 but now I don't know...

That's the thread I was on about being practically dead, haha.
I have the Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro S RGB but with blue switches. The build quality is amazing. It really feels premium.

I'm leaning towards that one since I can get it for £90, but it has brown switches. What's software control like for the RGB?

Edit:
You should at least try to post there, I'm sure people will jump in to answer your questions. People in the thread seem receptive to it. Up to you though.

Have done in the past. Still subbed to the thread too. There's just not much in the way of discussion. Whereas this thread, I'm pretty familiar with the regulars and I feel like I'd get better keyboard recommendation out of a regular PC builder that plays games, than I would a keyboard enthusiast.

Unfortunately I can't help you, but I'm in the same boat and not sure what to do. Will most coolers still be compatible with the new CPUs I assume?

Not a lot of people go for it because they are humongous. But the Thermalright coolers are fantastic. Le grand Macho may be the quietest cooler in the market that has equal performance to the best Noctua cooler.

What case is that? Amazing that it all fits in there!

Ncase M1

Crowd funded Mini ITX chassis with removable aluminum panels and support for full sized gfx cards and water coolers.

I'm incredibly happy with my air cooled setup and the thing runs quiet as hell, but as you can see below, some people really go all in!

Never heard of it before, but it looks really nice. Pretty cool! Report back with some temperatures while gaming / under load if you don't mind, I'm curious how cooling is in something so small for a 1080 Ti.

So, good or bad time to switch my 1050ti for a 1070? I have an Oculus Rift and while it plays everything great (ASW is amazing), Skyrim, Fallout and Doom are releasing soon, so I want the best IQ

Just ran Arkham Knight for about an hour or so. GPU temps averaging around 63-64 degrees celcius. At one point I alt tabbed out and opened Chrome and when I tabbed back to the game it read at 67 for just a sec so I grabbed a screen. Fans didn't even spin up once.

Kinda blows my mind that you're around low-to-mid 60s without any fans running. Congrats on the awesome build!

Thanks! Four intake fans, two of which are sandwiched right next to the gfx card's fans seems to do wonders. The PSU fan intakes from the opposite side of the case and there is another noctua under the cpu cooler that pulls air through the fins from the side intakes.

It might be a bit overkill in terms of fans, but I like that they all run at incredibly low rpm's keeping it very quiet.

I am leaning toward the Fractal Meshify C for the case so I will probably go with an AIO cooler, maybe the Kraken X62. Not sure if the Noctua NH-D15 will fit in that case. Will need to check the size of the graphics card I get to make sure it fits with the radiator in the front.

So, I'm looking at the coffee lake motherboards now that I can find some actual details on them, and so far the Asus Maximus X Hero is looking like a good option. Based on people's experiences with the line in the past, would that be a good motherboard to go with, or are there others that I should maybe look at?

On a related note, what's going to be the best approach for trying to pick up an i7-8700k and related motherboard on Thursday? Should I just keep refreshing Amazon/Newegg or is there a more effective approach I could take?

I am also looking at Coffee Lake. Fortunately I already have a 1151 motherboard and CPU and cooler.

With the talks about cooler in posts above me - why would I need a new cooler in the first place? My Be Quiet! Dark Rock has served me well over the year and I typically do not overclock much, if at all. Any reason to add a new cooler or can I just use the old one?

edit: I just read that an older 1151 motherboard might not work with Coffee Lake because the pins are different? Is that true? Annoying that they didn't change the socket type if true, that might blindside a lot of people looking for a quick upgrade.

I'm not sure if the pins are different, as I'm hearing different stories on that. But I do know is Coffee Lake is only compatible with 300 series motherboards.

It's the same socket, just a different chipset. So, my guess is that the bracket used on the LGA1151 and Z270 boards will also work with the LGA1151 and Z370 boards.

In summary, you can probably use your same cooler, but you definitely cannot use your old motherboard. You'll need to buy a Z370 or equivalent to use Coffee Lake, even though the socket/pins are the same. It's one of the reason I was happy that AMD finally brought some competition to the CPU market this year. Not supporting Intel and some of their goofy business practices was a small little "pro" added to reasons I decided to buy a Ryzen.

I could use some advice here. My nephew is using my old pc build specs are.
I7 2600k
16gb 2133 ddr3
Nvidia 1060
Asrock p67 extreme 4

The problem is when the pc is running both sticks of ram it gets stuck in a boot loop. I got it working again by reflashing the mobo bios and then it failed again after a gew hours. It all started after a storm took the power out. Based on my testing the mobo seems to be going bad. I have tested different ram set ups. If I just use 1 8gb stick in single channel pc works fine.

So I guess what I am asking is should I try and replace the mobo or just do a different build? When searching for a 1155 mobo the options I have found are limited it seems but I dunno if I want to drop the money on a whole new build when everything else is working fine. Thanks!

The BIOS hasn't been great for Z270, especially for memory overclocking and such. I wouldn't buy it again. XMP doesn't work for me and a lot of others, and I was careful to buy a RAM kit on the ASUS HCL.. and the motherboard was on the RAM manufacturers HCL. I think I'm running a 3866 kit at 2133. I had it working at 3600 for a while with all manual timings, then a BIOS update changed everything and those same settings wouldn't POST. I haven't had time to work through it again.

I suppose all boards have issues though, and overclocking, despite the rated memory.

Yes I have tried 2 2133 8gb and 2 1333 8gb sticks and all 4 check out. Tried them all in dimm 1-4 individually and as long as its single channel it will boot and run fine but if I try more then 1 in any config it will boot loop and give me error 55 on the mobo and error 55 checks out to "no ram present".

Everyone's definitely going to have problems, regardless of the motherboard, none of them are perfect. But generally speaking, it should be fine for their needs.

I get what you are saying. I've been computing since Atari 8 bit and I've been overclocking stuff since it was a thing. Never in my life have I owned a motherboard that want to fail at POST as badly as this one does, thus the mention, anecdotal as it is. My ASUS Z97 was much better, and with much more frequent BIOS updates.. unfortunately the Ethernet port and 1 PCIE slot failed, thus the shitty upgrade.

I'd call it a lemon if I hadn't lived in support threads with many others having the same problems that I was. At least go in with low expectations in terms of memory overclocking.

64GBs of RAM and 2TBs of NVMe storage? I assume that's for a very specific purpose?

The Maximus line of boards has always been good. I'm on a IX Code right now - love it - and came from a Maximus IV.

I can't find anything about release date or NDA for reviews. October 5th was the date for awhile but we are coming close and hardly any info has leaked.

Also, those looking at Coffee Lake you are going to buy a Z370 board. It seems like Intel did restructure the pins for Coffee Lake to give the chips more power with the 6 cores, so I don't think they'll work on Z270.

I'd keep eyes on the 8600k and 8400 if you don't want to spend the money for the 8700k. The 8600k and 8400 will probably be better price to performance values, and cpus more in line to go up against the Ryzen 1700/ryzen 1600.

Edit: Looks like some of the cpus are available to purchase.

Remember you'll need a Z370 motherboard for these cpus to work.

Edit2: Whoops, guess Newegg caught wind of selling these cpus early. Pages been pulled for now.

I have what's likely a silly question.

I bought a new 1TB drive that I'm using solely for media (DVD rips, music, etc.) on my older PC. When I buy my new PC in December, will I be able to just pop it in there and be good to go? Or will it cause problems? My thinking is that it's being treated like an internal version of an external drive, but I want to be sure first!

Should work fine

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about this custom PC that a GAF member is selling: http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=250905674

Wondering if it's a good deal for what is claimed to be a top-of-the-line PC, or if there are better/cheaper alternatives.

It's essentially top of the line, and a good deal in the sense that you're getting a reasonable discount compared to buying all the parts new.

However, It's kind of... unnecessarily expensive. I mean, nothing is totally a waste, but it really is a super high-end build.

Example: You're not gonna see a huge difference by using 3733 MHz RAM instead of 2933 MHz RAM; it's probably not worth the extra $80.

You probably don't need a 1300w PSU; it's another wasted $100.

You probably don't need that CPU cooler when a high-quality air cooler can be as quiet and just as cool, but cost $80 less.

The 7700k is the king right now... but tomorrow (as in, October 5th), you can buy an 8700k for around the same price - and that 8700k is a significant upgrade thanks to the extra 2 cores and 4 threads.

So, if it were me, and I had nearly $2,000 to spend on a PC, I'd really consider if it is worth it to buy a used PC that is somewhat made-up of unnecessary extras. I'd almost assuredly go for new parts instead; you'll still be able to get 16 GB of RAM, a 1080 Ti, an 8700k, a case/mobo/SSD/HDD/PSU/fans/etc. I will say, as of today, it's basically the best gaming PC you can buy. The problem is the timing; tomorrow, you can get a much better CPU that'll last you for quite a few years more than that 7700k will. That makes it really hard to justify dropping $2,000 on what is essentially one day away from being outdated hardware.

I mean, the person posted links to the parts so you can see the price for yourself. It's up to you if you think it's worth paying that much.

I think it's a good deal, but if I wanted to a PC, I would personally go for some more budget parts to save money.

If you are interested in ultrawide, their deal on the Acer monitor is a good deal though. Hard to find it cheaper than that.
