Wording implies an exclusive

Wording says its exclusive for later this year

blue hole has so much money and leverage there's no way they'd need to sign a full exclusivity deal

microsoft would have to shell out a ridiculous amount of money, which i guess is possible but doesn't seem like their preferred way of doing things these days

Basically, PUBG will be 2017's version of Rise of the Tomb Raider from 2015 in regards to the exclusivity part.

Wording literally says that the only console that will have the game in 2017 is the Xbox One.

Nothing more, nothing less.

What people infer from the wording is up to them, but you know Microsoft hope people read that thinking it's a permanent exclusive.

If it's not coming to ps4 m Microsoft would be shouting it from the rooftops. Their dodgy word choices confirms it's still going to happen on ps4.

I'm not a fan of exclusives*.

* When exclusive doesn't really mean exclusive other than in marketing terms.

And even if they did shell out a huge amount of money, bluehole could make more money putting it out on the PS4 anyways.

I don't think they would sign an exclusive deal.

Lol. They have the PC install base. Any consoles would be slim pickings for them.

The primary audience for shooters is on console. PUBG could easily crossover into the CoD/Battlefield crowd - the sort that would never play the game on PC. For the game to reach its' full potiental, it'll need that playerbase.

I'm no fan of Microsoft, but I can't blame them for using any edge they can find where it comes to marketing, just as I wouldn't blame Sony for doing the same where situations are reversed. Isn't there still an active thread even whose premise is that Microsoft needs more exclusives?

What do you want them to do. Say "Coming Exclusively to Xbox for Two Months"?
What about "Console Launch Exclusive" as they said it before?
Or as they did it a couple years before: "Timed Exclusive".

There are numerous ways to make it not misleading, but they WANT it to be misleading.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
For a game like this?

This isn't an on rails action adventure game. The console community might take to it, or it might not. We won't know until it hits Xbone.

My guess is we see a PS4 port mid 2018.

Can someone help me find my eyes, they just rolled out of my head.

Yes? Because if that is what they say, all they're doing is being upfront with consumers instead of treating them like idiots
In a perfect world perhaps, but Microsoft is a business trying to sell a product they're betting a lot on. I'm not saying it's fair or right, but it's what's best for business as Vinny Mac would say.

i think it's a fair point that this type of game has been popular on PC and basically nonexistent on console for quite a while

pubg might be the tipping point for console audiences but just going by history it seems likely that it'll sell fine on console but the biggest audience will remain the PC base

Pretty sure it's exclusive the same way Ark was. Early access is exclusive since PS4 doesn't support it. Final release comes to both consoles.

No.

It's the Game Preview program that was the impetus for the "exclusivity" period. PS4 has no such program.

Well, Fortnite is on PS4 Early Access right now?

And yeah, this could come out January 1st for the PS4 and Microsoft could still keep all this wording in place :D

Two things you have to consider -

- These deals are still in flux. Microsoft would LOVE for this game to hit PS4 as late as possible, but they have no idea how late they can push it. All they can confirm is that it won't be in 2017, and that's what they've advertised so far. Microsoft just came on as a publisher today - this stuff is always changing.
- No matter how Micrsoft worded this announcement, people would accuse them of being intentionally misleading.

Can't hate on them for the wording. They ain't lying. It will be an Xbox exclusive in 2017 thanks to the early access program.

In defense of console users, the two biggest profile games of the genre (DayZ, H1Z1) had hype. But they're vapor ware.

Paragon, Dungeon Defenders 2, Fortnite and many more prove you can put games that are still in-development on PS4. Lack of a branded tab in a store for these doesn't mean they're not allowed on the system.

Haha yeah, because a 60+ million install base is just something a developer would ignore. I suggest you not get into marketing.

If you're talking about the 60+ million PS4 install base then, at least for now, it's being ignored. I think they'll do fine regardless. :)

I'm thinking them mentioning MS publishing means quite a bit more than two months.

I just feel like waiting for a "full release" years from now the train has already passed and people are not that interested anymore. Microsoft got that right that it needs to be available right now when the hype is at the maximum.

Bullshit. No one would be pissed if they said it was coming first to XOne. The way they're wording it is basically them intentionally trying to mislead people.

PUBG would not drop 60 million potential gamers. I think this is timed. As many have said same for ROTR. If wrong this is a big get IMHO.

Anything longer than 9 months is pretty much an exclusive for me. Potentially dodgy marketing wording aside.

This game could remain in preview for more than a year. That is a major get.
