I'm a cop in a different part of the country, but I had to complete an application that contained the same information I used for my secret clearance in the military. I had to complete a physical agility test, a written test, an oral interview, a polygraph, a background investigation, a psychological exam, a health physical, and an interview with the chief. Then I completed a 16 week Academy, followed by an additional seven weeks of in-house training. Then I did an additional 15 weeks of field training. The whole process from turning in my application to being on my own was about a year.
Yeah, we weren't quite so thorough lol.

Only 1 year? Takes 2.5 years for cops in Sweden to be fully done with the education. 1 year seems to be too low for such a job.

Apparently, slapping a squad vehicle warrants death.

A woman slapped the back of police squad car just before the fatal police shooting of an unarmed Australian woman in Minneapolis, according to newly released court documents.

"Upon police arrival, a female 'slaps' the back of the patrol squad. After that, it is unknown to BCA agents what exactly happened, but the female became deceased in the alley," the court document reads. It does not say whether the woman who slapped the car was Damond.

One responding officer, Matthew Harrity, told investigators he was startled by a loud sound near the patrol car shortly before his partner, Mohamed Noor, fired through the open driver's-side window, striking Damond

Became deceased? Get fucked. Fucking shitheads at every level.

That doesn't make sense, I mean why would she slap the back of the car anyway? I thought a loud noise like a firework set him off? Whatever I hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars.

According to the driver, there was a cyclist passing on the passenger side that both cops were watching. She probably slapped the car to get their attention as she was the one they needed to talk to about the 911 call.

There was a great article from the Washington Post about how police control the language of media releases whenever they kill someone. It's never "Cop shot person" It's now the abstract "Suspect died in police involved shooting." Victims of the policing killing someone are treated in abstract vagueness. The person just happened to die and a cop was somewhat connected to the matter.

Slap the car so that they aren't startled when she suddenly appears at the driver-side window?

"Became deceased."

Fucking incredible.

"I didn't shoot her, I was nonchalantly firing my gun off in her general vicinity, when the lady suddenly became deceased. That was her prerogative, It wasn't the outcome I expected or wanted."

So this story has gone from:

"Woman who called the Police was stood by the car driver window talking to Noor's partner when Noor discharged his weapon"... to...

"Noor heard a loud noise and fired at the victim as they were approaching the driver side window"... to...

"A female slapped the back of the car... The victim became deceased."

I mean... fucking hell!....WTF

Would be nice if they cut the shit and just made the story "cops murdered someone". They aren't getting out of this one no matter what shit they make up

Yeah it's getting embarrassing at this point. All they're doing is insulting the intelligence of the public and the memory of the victim.

"The female became deceased..."... I'm just... I can't.... wow!

Became deceased? That's some weird wording. What's next "I performed CPR and he became alive!"

I know it's been called out multiple times but "became deceased"? She was shot. What's with this garbage attempt at linguistic gymnastics?

Slapped is a weird word to use, it has violent connotations (maybe that's just me) when there aren't any. Tapping or knocking a vehicle to get the attention of the driver is common throughout the world.

So news down under reports a search warrant was issued within hours of the shooting, to search the victim's house for "bodily fluids".

WTF. Actively looking for an excuse for the shooting. WTF.

They really need to stop with this bullshit. It's long been past time to clean up law enforcement as a whole. They do their best to not take responsibility for their mistakes and crimes against citizens. Even worse when people come in caping for them every time because they know in the back of their minds that they ain't safe either if they acknowledge the shit they get away with.

To be honest I'm somewhat pissed off that my government (Australia) isn't getting much more upset about this. If I were the PM, I'd be at the US Consulate in Canberra demanding justice and compensation for Justine's family

It's also worth noting that this was in the middle of the night in a quiet neighborhood, if the reports of tapping/slapping the car are correct it makes sense that she would rather do that than start yelling to get their attention.

It's to avoid assigning legal culpability. In the extremely unlikely and bizarre event that the coroner declares the cause of death a heart attack or something, they don't want to be on record as admitting the officer caused her death as it could have legal implications.

It ends up sounding insulting.

Yeah Turnbull should be grilling the US about this.

I would've liked to see spank used personally.

ABC - Justine Damond, Australian shot by police officer in Minneapolis, remembered at memorial in US

He pointed out this was his first visit to Minneapolis and he should be "walking down the street smiling and laughing" with his daughter, "but now every step on the footpath is very painful".

Her American fiance, Don Damond, told more than 200 mourners that "it felt like a privilege to love Justine", who he was to marry in Hawaii next week, and he had "immense gratitude for being the one she chose".

Police are investigating the shooting but the officer who fired will not talk to them, and the ABC understands even after a month, no significant police findings about what happened have been passed on.
