COMICS!!! |OT| June 2017 - AquaBDSM : Sunstone but with dolphins.

I'm upset because I really want to read a book about a girl who can talk to birds being on a super team with other weird assholes.

As a birder, I am intrigued by this.

Kkkkkk I'll have to check that out. I think Kate Kane is one of my new favorite characters. Makes the current Batwoman run that much more disappointing.

It's not bad, it just doesn't feel inspired at all. It's just her taking down a terrorist cell out of some island that totally isn't Madripoor. Compared to her previous stuff, which is very macabre and noir and gothic and every other dark genre you can think of, it just comes off as generic and uninspired. I just don't care for it, but it's not bad enough for me to actually drop.

I also fell in love with Kate through Rucka's run. I love, like, everything about her. Her design, her skill set, her back story... she's just so badass. But after reading the two-part tec lead in and the first few issues of her solo, I've dropped it. It's just so not what I want from a Batwoman book. And I haven't enjoyed these writers previously, so I don't have a lot of faith.

So this is awesome. My friend is a big fan of Taskmaster, like myself, and she donated $100 to Pere Perez [artist of Deadpool vs. Punisher]'s kickstarter. At that tier, he makes you a detailed sketch of any character you want, and of course, she got...

She's been showing it off ever since, and I don't blame her. Perez is awesome.

Everytime I see this guy I'm like... where is your skin, bro?

Haha. It's a mask! It's a very weirdly expressive mask, but a mask. Here he is without it:

Whoever is on Black Panther after Coates is going to have one hell of a job (assuming he'd be leaving it to do Cap)

A Waid and Samnee run similar to what they did with Black Widow would make sense. A Coates Cap book would be interesting considering what the type of things he would likely write about and seeing a skilled black writer getting that kind of opportunity would be cool. It would be surprising to see Marvel go with a writer who has only been writing comics for a year though so I'm not inclined to believe it.

They gave him 2 spin-off books before the second volume was even out in stores. With their talent exodus they need people like him to stay.

Why is this not good?

Waid is dogshit when under heavy editorial influence (and he will be, because that's the post-Secret Empire, let's try and make Steve profitable again, arc of Captain America), and Coates is still pretty green, and that's a recipe for disaster with this character in these circumstances, again because Marvel's editorial is actively bad at their jobs.

BC: There's going to be another relaunch.
And, as part of the back and forth, Marvel representatives including Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso apparently stated that the subsequent Marvel Legacy renumbering across the range of titles is something akin to a stopgap, though that probably wasn’t the exact language used, and that there will be an actual proper relaunch to come. I would expect new issue ones across the board.

Though Alonso was quick to insist that this is “not a reboot”. But a relaunch. Another one. Cue Brenda.

This would be Waid co-writing with Samnee and Waid can write Cap unlike certain other characters like Spider-Man.

That would make sense given the way things seem to be going.

So if the stuff Bleedingcool posted is true then I'm guessing Legacy will be for bringing back the old characters like Tony and a normal Steve among other things and allowing certain runs to finish before they relaunch with new creative teams like the rumored Cap one.

Yup.

So essentially, I'm going to bet we get all new Number 1's next Fall. :p

Marvel really should've just pulled the trigger with a reboot for Secret Wars. It was the perfect opportunity.

Reboots have their own issues that alienate fans. There's a reason why certain fans never returned to DC until Rebirth.

Still reading Simonson's Thor. Now I probably liked Thor: The Dark World more than most, but Malekith was just horribly horribly underutilized by that movie and it's cool to see Simonson (and Aaron in the current run) actually do something with him.

Brevoort got harassed off twitter today and of course Bleedingcool writes an article making fun of him for it because they find it funny.

I need to read that run at some point.

Bleeding Cool has specific information from the Marvel Retailer conference call. This. IS. Why. We. Fail. Why they don’t take us seriously.

Well I guess it's true then. The other retailers are probably pissed at whoever leaked it to Bleedingcool.

I'm assuming this is the right place to ask:

For someone who's probably going to be on a Spider-Man binge after he sees Homecoming next week, what are some of the best Spidey comics to read?

I liked him quite a bit in the Jane Foster Thor as well. Both his character and his appearance were really dull.

With the Legacy reveal? Most likely.
With the conference call? Who knows.

As mentioned in the tweet leaking stuff like that just makes Marvel less willing to share info with them.

It mostly seemed like all the call was for in the first place was to get retailers to order more anyways not really to fix any of the issues. Doesn't seem like it'd be much of a loss. Seemed to be more in service of Marvel than them actually wanting to listen.

It's gonna be hard to top this year in terms of comic book movies, so far we've gotten Logan, Guardians 2, WW, Spidey is getting amazing reviews and even Valerian is getting some great early impressions from the press.

Yeah, the call was scheduled weeks ago to provide info about SE and certain other stuff things.

Retailers were confused about the Legacy announcement so I'm sure they wanted to listen and ask questions.

Awesome sketch; though I can't unsee the small-ish arm. Maybe it's just me.

If there had been any good news we would have known.

Cool.

It tells us that something went wrong or Marvel said the wrong things.
I doubt there was any news outside of the other relaunch thing and I would be surprised if Higgins and other retailers were happy with that since he would just want it now.

His thing in particular is that he wants Marvel to get rid of the legacies and outright asked them to get rid of Gwenpool and Spider-Woman, so I doubt he'll be satisfied with whatever we get though.

So, I read through Panther by Brecht Evens. Masterfully drawn and written comic. But it is also one of the most (emotionally, and psychologically) difficult books I've read. This thing is going to haunt me for a long time. If I had known what I was getting into, I may not even have read it. -_-

Also, don't be distracted by the look and art style and colours. I would NOT recommend it to anyone on the younger side.

The greatest of runs. Will definitely re-read once I get the omnibus later in the year.
