I was going for multicultural. I am irish, Zombeen is fake irish/redneck, Tyrant im pretty sure is from france, freeza is from canada, LordofLore is a twitterbot and you have the Asian perspective.
Should get a real Asian. I just live here haha.

Don't get too excited. I went to my LCS and they didn't have it on the shelves so I didn't get to grab it.

Secret Weapon

Valiant Folks: Is this supposed to take place a while back after the Harada emails first released? Harbinger Renegades made it seem like it'd been a little while since that happened.

Really liked this and liked the characters, but the timeline made me a bit confused.

It seems to take place not long after the leak. It doesn't really reference the whole Imperium situation or anything that's happened in Renegade. It's pretty common to see Valiant books not taking place at the same time as other ongoing books.

Cool, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something. Almost seemed like I missed an issue of Renegade or something. Then they talked about a company being absent and that made me think of Bloodshot, so I just felt a bit confused.

The Flash

More Thawn is never a bad thing (for the reader). Though I felt for a "special" it focused way too much on recapping Thawn, to the point where I knew what it would end on.

Teen Titans

This issue was good, not great coming off of the cross-over with Titans and Death Stroke, but pretty good none the less. Still think it's stupid that
they are taking Kid Flash off of Teen Titans to put him on Defiance. Seems really pointless.
Also
huge emotional cop out with Raven. Felt what they had should've been explored instead of ignored.
As for Aqualad,
I should've guessed it was his mom who was Atlantian considering I knew who his dad was, but knowing his dad, he could've experimented on his son or something so I didn't know what they would go with.
I can say I am enjoying them going into his background though.

Batman Beyond

Kind of split on this one. Forcing
Damian
into the story feels weird. I know it's a retcon that has to happen, but the way they are doing it is meh. I'd rather more focus go onto
the prototype suit and how it's affecting Terry then how it affected Damian.

Infamous Ironman

Can we stop giving Riri admiration for things she didn't do? Don't give her a pat on the back for failing or barely doing anything. I want to see the character grow and get better over time, not just be immediately good and when she messes up or does nothing, still gets congratulations for it. I know this is Doom's book but that's one of the first things I saw
was shield giving her credit for bringing in Doom when he asked her to attack him. I don't even get why SHIELD is giving her the credit when SHIELD usually doesn't do that.
The rest of the book is just meh. Doom is barely in it and the only good parts were when
Doom was talking with the Tony ghost that should've lasted a lot longer
and
Johnny and Ben finally get to talk after all this time. That was really enjoyable.
. Everything else was
no name boring stock SHIELD agents wanting to just kill Doom because they repeated the name "Hitler". There was no real stance and no one really defending them not killing him. These red shirts even attacked other SHIELD agents to kill Doom, before getting Red Shirted by Doom's mom. It was pointless fluff and filler that added nothing we didn't already see out of other characters just so that it can Cliff-Hanger on something his mom is about to tell him.

It's been my experience that they kind of try to give as little detail as possible on timeline stuff so new readers aren't overwhelmed, but frequent readers can kind of piece together where it fits.

How do you even pronounce Riri? I always just say it in Japanese in my head, like with the Japanese phoenetic sound by transliteration into Japanese: リリ (like ɾiɾi instead or riri if you know IPA)

Ree-ree? Or is it like Lily with Rs? When I say it that way, it sounds like the Japanese affected speech pronouncing "really" to me.

Fuck that name is hard to say for me.

Also, fuck Japanese phonology while I'm at it.

I've said Ree-Ree, as I thought it was short for something, but now thinking about it I'm not sure.

It's Ree-Ree, though most black readers, myself included, find it weird that's her real name. Riri in black communities is normally used as a shortened nick name for names like Riahnna, Rina, Rita, or names that start or end with the REE sound. Never got that and I keep expecting someone to say her actual name.

It's entirely possible that the character was created by a middle-aged white dude with no clue about these things.

Except for the fact that he has two black daughters?

Having two black daughters doesn't give you the black or Hispanic experince to right the characters convincingly.

Wasn't there an issue with the book of how despite being Of Hispanic descent, miles refers himself as Latino which would be a big no no from any kid growing up with Hispanic parents.

Right, that kind of thinking is up there with Alonso saying he was basically Asian because he married an Asian woman.

Just defending the belief that he knows nothing about it. I don't think that's fair. It's just cool to dunk on Bendis.

Doesn't offend me or anything (at least not me) and at the very least she has more personality than "black girl". Mostly, I'm annoyed that upon second read, the world around her just kind of bends to her and she doesn't want that and I can't tell if that's done purposely or not. From the beginning the principle tells her parents to basically give her what she wants but not too much, just be nice to her, but don't bore her, yet it's almost as if that's exactly what they and everyone around her does.

I was seen a panel of her book where she was literally asking to be marginalized....

Finished Batwoman by Rucka. The Cutter story collected in back with Jock is fantastic and is great set-up for the New 52 status quo for Kate. What storylines pre-Rucka focus on Kate? There's still this whole arc with her and Renee (as The Question) and getting kidnapped and almost sacrificed by the Religion of Crime that happened, but isn't present within this book.
I know. I'm upset because I really want to read a book about a girl who can talk to birds being on a super team with other weird assholes.

I think it's really just 52 and the question mini series with Renee that predates the TEC stuff. I could be wrong though. I really need to pick up that new collection to read those Jock issues.

I don't know what scene/page/panel you're talking about but Latino and Hispanic cultural identities have a huge overlap

Miles Morales's dad is African American and his mom is Puerto Rican. Miles would be correct to say that he has Latino and Hispanic heritage. He's Afro Latino much like Carmelo Anthony

I may have gotten the exact example wrong but someone posted a link a few days ago about what's wrong with Bendis writing the current miles book.

Thinking about getting into the Hellboy universe. I saw this reading order online. Anybody here enjoy Hellboy?

http://www.multiversitycomics.com/annotations/hellboy-reading-order-2017/

Yea, there's a bunch of folks here into the books. That reading order is great if you want to just go whole hog into the entire thing. You could literally just read the actual core Hellboy books vol 1-12 and the two in hell vol beginning to end too, if you don't necessarily want to commit to such a large amount. You'll probably know how enthusiastic you are about the books by the time you make it to volume 6 of HB anyway (if you make it that far lol). Enjoy!

So just finished re-watching Young Justice (perfect for background TV while feeding my baby). I had totally forgotten that Nolan North (i.e. Nathan Drake and about 1,000 other videogame voices) did the voice of Superboy. Now I really need an "aw shucks" Superboy rockin' the Drake Half-Tuck(tm) with a voice balloon talking about ludo-narrative dissonance print to get made.

Also, man, did YJ dig pretty deep into the well for some awesomely obscure villains and whatnot. Monsieur Mallah! Klarion the Witch-Boy! Psimon! I had forgotten that sort of Brave&TheBold - esque "let's bring out some of the c-listers for the fun of it" aspect of the series.

Kkkkkk I'll have to check that out. I think Kate Kane is one of my new favorite characters. Makes the current Batwoman run that much more disappointing.

Mallah and Klarion have appeared in cartoons prior.

Sportsmaster was the big one. Christ that show turns its villains up to 11.

Oh really? Rough? I've honestly been totally zoned out on the series, just waiting on that trade. At least I can count on the art being nice.

I think the argument was the other way around, like he should be self-identifying as Latino rather than Hispanic? I dunno but now that I think about it I hear the former way more than the latter

Can somebody explain me the Latino and Hispanic thing? Is it just stupid mislabeling or is it something offensiv? Please dont be angry at me that I dont know about this, keep in mind that not every country has the same amount of minorities. I just dont know what this is about and would love to learn it.

Is anyone reading and enjoying Underwinter? If so, what am I not getting? It looks like a grad schoolers finger painting pieced together to be a horror story. I get the horror aspect the story is going for, but even it seems kind of low grade and simple.

I feel like I'm missing something.

JLA is a great example of a book having dimishing returns from arc to arc. Like, this is a book I was super excited for and now I've just slowly stopped caring more and more.

It's not bad, it just doesn't feel inspired at all. It's just her taking down a terrorist cell out of some island that totally isn't Madripoor. Compared to her previous stuff, which is very macabre and noir and gothic and every other dark genre you can think of, it just comes off as generic and uninspired. I just don't care for it, but it's not bad enough for me to actually drop.

I still contend I have not liked a single thing Orlando has written outside of Midnighter and Apollo(either one). I liked the JLA one shots, but once the series started that all seemed to go out the window.

I never understood the concept of the book. Batman wanted a more human team and those are the people he chose? Makes no sense.

Has Marvel given any indication or said anything about more books to be revealed after the Legacy one shot with their actual Legacy characters? After looking through that list of books I kinda feel duped. I thought this was going to be the return of a lot of their old characters? Other than Dam becoming the Falcon again and Johnny Storm/The Thing I didn't see any of their "legacy" characters even hinted at.

I hope they are holding some big stuff back until after Generations. I thought we were going to see the return of characters like OG Wolverine!

I can't believe we're going to get a comic show worst than Gotham

Gotham is pretty good. I enjoyed it from the two seasons that I watch on Netflix.

A good chuck of the books it seems to be just the books coming out now. There are a few books that are mention canceled and replace.

They haven't revealed any details about the books themselves. Tony is coming back and I would expect certain others as well.

Yeah it's a fun way to follow the series but it's hardly a strict thing you need to stick with. I didn't follow it exactly and it didn't hurt my enjoyment at all. Like Donnie said, you can just stick to Hellboy if that's all you want and read it in order. If you want more, try BPRD and if that's not enough, then you can dive into the others.

In the PR they sent to sites this was the full Legacy line-up like ANAD and Now! 2.0 before it.

Just landed in LA. Didn't get a blink of sleep in the 11 hour trip.

So this is awesome. My friend is a big fan of Taskmaster, like myself, and she donated $100 to Pere Perez [artist of Deadpool vs. Punisher]'s kickstarter. At that tier, he makes you a detailed sketch of any character you want, and of course, she got...

She's been showing it off ever since, and I don't blame her. Perez is awesome.
