Coincidentally if you put all things FFXV's story is doing in a bullet list, it actually sounds okay, the game just fails in execution.

I wonder if they even mention any of the cut stuff. Btw, regarding your post before with some of the translated bits: that was a joke with Cor's nickname, right? I honestly can't tell :D

It wasn't a joke, if translations are accurate, it is said that Cor is called 'The Inmortal' because of his little involvement in the events of the game (I've also read that it might just mean "events of the game related to Insomnia"). The title is meant as a mockery.

I just read the op and the newer leaks a couple of pages ago. The dev team actually did well considering the problematic circumstances and the time restrictions of the game's development. They should have delayed the game and release it next year. World of Ruin sounds really cool and I would have loved to see Iris again as a badass daemon slayer. She was my favorite of the supporting cast.

The Stella twist sounds horrible though. And it seems Luna was originally an even more pathetic and weak non character than she ended up being in the final game.

On paper FFXII's story is great. How it ended up in the game was a disappointment.

I'm very glad we got FFXV as is instead.

I wasn't sure if i should bump this thread or not but since people posted 4chan rumors before, i thought i should post this too. Apparently there is/was a 2ch thread that leaked the Versus XIII story or Nomura's FFXV if you want to believe the ghost Stella story (assuming the story changed after Versus XIII became FFXV). Someone translated the key points and i found the translation on GameFAQS so here it is.

-The game was supposed to be divided into a trilogy of three games, later changed into three chapters compiled into one game

-There were four crystals owned by four nations: Lucis (based off of Tokyo, Japan), Accordo (based off of Venice, Italy), Tenebrae (combination medieval German/oriental theme), and Solheim (Arabian theme). A fifth nation, Niflheim, took over Solheim a long time ago, and eventually Tenebrae and Accordo too, quickly using up all their crystals' energy, which led to Lucis' crystal being the last active crystal in Eos, setting up the main conflict in the game. Niflheim itself was originally made up of a bunch of "non-crystal" nations, which were united a long time ago under one nation by the Aldercapt family.

-The first game (or chapter) started with the invasion of Insomnia by Niflheim (instead of the Kingsglaive movie)

-The invasion was orchestrated by Iedolas, the Emperor of Niflheim, and Clarus Amicitia, a cousin of King Regis, and father of Gladiolus and Iris Amicitia, although Clarus's role is hidden during the first game/chapter

-Glauca was introduced as a Lucis general related to Cor Leonis (twin brother?), and loyal to Clarus, shown working with Niflheim to help set up the invasion. The ”strongest" general in the Lucis army. He does not kill Regis, Clarus himself kills Regis at the end of the first game/chapter.

-Noctis met and fought Aranea for the first time in this game/chapter. She is a mercenary hired by Niflheim, and stops working for them when they stop paying her in the later games, pretty much exactly like in the final version.

-Ravus was the final boss of the first game/chapter. He and Stella Nox Fleuret were both from Tenebrae, and Ravus knew about the true intention of Niflheim to invade Lucis, while Stella did not. After several encounters throughout the first game/chapter with his hood on, he reveals himself as Stella's brother in the final boss fight. Although nominally a general of Niflheim, he was secretly working for Ardyn, and was specifically there to protect and capture Noctis under Ardyn's orders (during the first game/chapter, Ardyn's identity as Ravus's master is hidden). At the end of the boss fight, Ravus manages to escape from Noctis.

-Ardyn was portrayed as a silly and disinterested bureaucrat for most of the first game, kind of like how he is portrayed in the final version, in contrast to the other serious and calculating generals of Niflheim, with very few hints dropped in the first game/chapter that Ardyn is somehow the one pulling the strings behind the scenes

-The first game/chapter ended with Niflheim's invasion of Lucis being a success, and a new puppet government of Lucis being set up under Clarus, who agrees to share his crystal's energy with the rest of the world. Noctis and his gang escape the city and look for a safe haven to plot "revenge". Other characters also escape from the city, such as Cor, Iris, etc.

It does correlate with some Versus information we knew (Clarus being cousin and traitor, Dogs having human forms, Manchester-influenced area, Versus being released in separate chunks), so who knows? Maybe this is real. Of course, this was back when Versus was FNC and the leaks didnt mention any L'Cie or Fal'Cie, so yeah. Fun read though.

Regardless the game we got still preserves some of the main story beats, up to and including the journey home.

But that info being out could just mean someone just made something up to fuck with people.

Regarding Clarus, since he didn't appeared in Gladio's episode or in any other DLC content (unlikely to appear in Igni's episode) i think it's safe to assume that he was strictly tied to the Versus XIII story like Stella so they had to remove him completely.

If this stuff is true (and it sounds plausible enough/not built around wishful thinking), FFXV was almost entirely adapted from the middle game/chapter of the three.

I dunno about that. If it sounded super duper amazing or were full of stuff about how ICONIC!! Stella is, it'd be clearly a load of shit, but it sounds like a story that's about an average level of engaging (neither great nor shitty) while also very likely biting off way more than it can chew, which is probably pretty on point for what happened to Versus.

It sounds like FF in general, really. XII is full of plot elements that would've been right at home in the SNES games especially, just done on a grander scale. Not hard to believe Nomura would try to do something similar.

The only leak I would trust is the OfLucii one which is in the OP, the one that came from an AMA with an alleged member of S-E BD2, taking into account that this person could have also made up/lied/twisted other details.

I wouldn't have posted it originally if I didn't trust it myself and believed that it could be more or less legitimate, so anything that contradicts the information given by that person and doesn't provide any type of proof or hint that it could be more legitimate than the OfLucii posts, raises an eyebrow from me. As many, I hope that someday S-E officially shares details about the original project. Would love to read the original script and see what the fuss was all about.
