I did a big write-up on my blog: http://www.infinitejustin.com/theblog/2017/6/3/wwdc

tldr: There is probably going to be a new coat of pain thrown on iOS. I expect a lot of talk about how they've improved iOS on the iPad. They will probably show off the new 10.5 inch Pro model. I'm not holding my breath for any big changes to macOS, watchOS or tvOS.

My big hope for the show is that they show off some major improvements to Siri and a home assistant in the same vein as Echo and Google Home. It's no secret that AI has become the new holy grail in tech, and now seems like the time when Apple would start to show their cards. We'll see. I think it's going to be a big show this year.

For the love of god, group mail in the mail app!? Please?

I have a group in the contacts app, why cant I just type the name of that group in the "To:" field, and it will pull in all of those?

They mention they haven't seen a lot since Chinese New year (end of Jan)

Apple glasses project delayed (2018/2019 may be cancelled)
- Rough bill of materials of Project Mirrorshades - Apple Iris: Kopin NED Acetate frame Polarisized or prescription lens with Zeiss smart optics Bone induction modules Microphones (noise cancellation) Light sensor Accelerometer for step tracking and head movement app navigation Magnetometer for navigation Capacitive Pavel Ceramic battery Apple chipset Charging circuit BL5 Induction module.
- Microphone for voice, accelerator meter and magnetometer for steps could be used for apps like tinder, nod for yes, shake for no, small capacitive strip on arm for accept calls, volume functions.
- We only saw transparent reader lens but I understand they can procure polarised or prescription lenses
- Cellulose acetate Injection mold frames into an aluminum mold. Colors are added and tumbled for finish.
- P3 frame design
- Two sizes, men's and woman's
- BOM would indicate around $600 mark.
- Very unique design, if it can be done properly will be like what the iphone did 10 years ago.

MacBooks
- 2017 MacBooks: updated SOC but no much changes. Air will be discontinued. 32GB RAM for 15 inch.
- 2018 MacBooks: smart any key technology. Function row is OLED touchbar: remaining keys are e-paper smart keys. Tests on updated design language. More glass and dark black body. Reintroduce white apple light.
- 2018 MacBooks: Foxconn JV with startup; keyboard with e-paper display embedded in new keyboard. Testing of two e-paper technologies; E-ink in black and white and color, other a color Qualcomm display (cancelled due to IP dispute).

Siri Speaker:
- A modified A9 chip
- Same shape as Mac Pro but smaller. We have no seen design since Chinese Lunar Year; long time ago.
- "We tested three designs, one design without camera, without screen." Says final version will not have camera or screen

iPhones
- "We saw test units with fingerprint scanners mounted below the glass but performance and yield rates were not good. I've seen reports of a rear fingerprint scanner which I haven't seen; our team thinks the previous design + camera authentication is more likely given our intelligence."
- EVT did have Touch ID but not capacitive unit. Instead in manufacturing it was bonded to glass substrate. There was issues but this was the original design.
- TouchID is under screen.
- Face recognition through front facing camera modules.
- Water resistant
- Wireless charging
- Lightning not USB C as reported.
- new battery charging chipset from TI.
- No wireless charging for 7s.

iMac
- SOC update for 2017; incremental update.
- The full hardware design + smart keys are delayed to 2018.

Thanks for the summary. Appreciate it.

Chances of Nintendo appearing again with another app? I guess with AC launching in the fall the September event would make more sense...

I could definitely see them showing up onstage again in Fall when the new phones are getting announced, I think by then they'll have another big game to show.

I've been angling to get an iPad Pro for some time now.
I really want to use it to get back into drawing. I hear Procreate is excellent.

I've read these rumors over the past few weeks in regards to iOS11:
- FaceTime group calling (likely)
- FaceTime audio as default (like iMessage)
- Redesign (apps looking more like the maps app with that fancy drawer to get where you want quicker)
-> Could also be kept for the new iPhone reveal if it has features unique to the new ones
- Some kind of social networking app by Apple (unlikely?)
- Dark mode (probably revealed in a few months with the new iPhones)
- new Apple Music app (likely, so they can include their TV shows like carpool karaoke)
- major Siri updates (likely considering Siri Speaker rumors)
- a few iPad features like extended Apple Pencil support
- Send money to friends via Apple Pay in iMessage
- They will tweak notifications again (afaik they tweaked them with every iOS release so far?)

And here I am just wanting a way to re-organize phone numbers when editing a contact.

Obligatory list of never happening:
- News app in more countries (germany please)
- Apple Pay in more countries (germany please.. who am I kidding)

I've been working full time (including programming with Blink.sh) on my 12" iPad Pro in anticipation that 10.5" God iPad Pro is good and that iOS 11 adds more keyboard support and general mac-replacement features to iPad. Cannot freaking wait.

Also added an *unlimited* tablet line to my T-Mobile plan for just *$10 a month*, and that includes 7GB of tethering. Absolutely remarkable how cheap T-Mobile is (I pay $115/mo for 2 unlimited iPhones, an unlimited iPad, and on my main line unlimited Gogo airplane wifi). Just freaking astounding how cheap wireless data has become.

Hoping for a new Pencil with some more versatility and a way to attach to the iPad itself, and a new Smart Keyboard that's less cumbersome

Would buy both along with the most expensive 10.5" in a heartbeat

Edit: I think there will be a dark mode, and I don't think they'll delay it until September. They'll want all the beta testers on it and app compatibility in time for the new iPhone

Only substantial thing i'm expecting from iOS is a dark mode because they have to release the oled phone later this year for the rest i think it will be all under the hood stuff and new apis for developers.

macOS i expect a "Snow Leopard" kind of release.

I wish I found the iPad useful for anything, other than occasional GarageBand or Logic Remote use. My mini is neglected because I prefer my MBP even for casual web-surfing.

NOTE: I'm posting this a little bit early as I won't be getting home until very late tonight. I hope that it's ok.

Read the leak on Reddit and one that caught my attention is that supposedly the updated 15 inch MacBook Pro will have 32GB ram.

The other stuff for the future was interesting as well.

I desperately need a Macbook Pro and I don't think I can hold off any longer. I really hope the rumored upgrade is substantial.

Hoping for a good bump on the 15" MBPs. Had a 2016 15" that was an apple care replacement for my 2014 15". Had to go into the store yesterday because the space bar was unreliable. They LITERALLY has to send out the whole laptop because of the space bar since they can't repair the new keyboards in store.

Instead, they gave me the retail price of the broken Macbook ($2799+tax) to reorder it online. Judging by the ship dates (Delivers 09 Jun, 2017 - 13 Jun, 2017 by Next Day Shipping) being pushed back I am guessing they will be sending out the new model. Would love to see updated GPUs in the high end retail model. Might be optimistic, but 1TB SSD would be nice too. Also for the LOVE OF GOD get this keyboard shit straightened out. This new keyboard, from talking to the tech at the store, have been a nightmare.

I hope Apple give me a good reason to upgrade my air 2 to a 12.9 pro 2. I'll always be cautious about upgrading straight away though after the iPad 3 to 4. We're there any indicators at the launch of the 3 that we could see a refresh so quickly?

I'm pissed if there are new macbook pros since I bought one last week because macrumours buyers guide said it was midcycle.

Edit: just looked and it seems they updated their buyers guide 2 days after my purchase. Great.

You have 14 days. And the rumors have been around for weeks. It'll be a speed bump if anything. Just take it back if you need to.

Just merge the two threads. Fragmentation is gonna be confusing. Or lock one. Doesn't matter. Merge the OT info and lock one of the threads before it starts and we're fine.

Interested to see this Siri speaker and how it will be any different from the competition

Yeah; I've been impressed with the Echo I just bought; but I think Siri is better in some areas.

The main reason I got an Echo was to control a bunch of Hue lights and the Echo always gives me some issue. Never knows what lights I mean... Siri with Homekit has been excellent with the Hue.

Speakers and Mics are great. I love telling it to buy something and the thing just showing up. The language recognition is great; but the language interpretation is not. I feel like the Echo is like talking to a command line, in a way.

Macrumors only posted the rumour that seemingly confirmed the upgrade on the 31st of may. Either way I don't care too much just a bit disappointed.

I thought they were going to do WWDC at Apple Park this year. Did that change or was I just dreaming
