Trump to announce US withdrawal from Paris Accord, will take four years to complete

They couldn't even come up with a good reason for withdrawing, other than it involved the previous administration. How can we even compete on a global scale in the energy sector if we're hitting the breaks on one of the most promising growth sectors?

American exceptionalism on display again. 195 countries just don't know better and it doesn't matter what 6 billion people think is good for the planet and the future of mankind.

I've been saying for a while now that America's whole culture of assumed exceptionalism is a goddamn plague.

Donald Trump is plummeting America into third world status fast. I didn't even know it was possible for one man to do so but there it is folks. The damage is going to be so extensive that it may take decades to recover and that is based on optimism. America may never recover from Trump's presidency.

Trump is, unfortunately, the dark side of the old truism "One man CAN make a difference."

Pretty much this. He and his friends in the energy industry that benefit from ignoring environmental considerations aren't thinking about long term benefits, only short term profit.

Not even that, energy industry is largely against withdrawing from Paris Accord. It's not even about profits, that move is motivated by pure pettiness.

Can someone tweet at Van Jones for me saying this is the day he became President only reason because Jones blocked me.

It's just the coal industry, really. Everyone else was okay with this accord. and even the coal industry had to be egged on by our "EPA" chief, Pruitt. aka captain pollution

People need to not kid themselves about this.

Just because it's going to take years for this to be finalized, simply announcing this has already eroded our allies faith in our countries ability to lead or make rational decisions.

The EPA is being headed by a climate denier as well as being gutted.

Long term policy still starts with short term progress, having an administration that is adamant in doing nothing while fighting economic, social, technological and foreign trends is just going to cost us jobs, our status as a global leader and long term support and bargaining power in future global initiatives.

This is what isolationism looks like, and the world is going to fast learn how to deal without America being at the table.

BTW, there is no "better deal". Trump probably thinks he can go back to the table and demand better terms, but he's going to get laughed out of the room.

It's going to be fun watching other countries institute sanctions against us, negotiate "historic" trade deals with other nations, and generally wean themselves off American dependence over the coming years.

Fun times ahead. America won't be the power it is now in the future.

But we’re going to make very clear to the world that we’re not going to be abiding by what the previous administration agreed to.

I hope they start soon.

1. Take the Paris Accord
2. Rename Mar-a-Lago Accord
3. Credit author as Donald J. Trump
4. Explain that Barack Obama hates this idea
5. Save the world

That probably would work. Also mention that foxnews supports it, and he won't question it.

Do they actually have a good reason or is it just another case if "Obama did it"?

I promise you that Trump could not name one clause of the accord. It was part of Obama's legacy, and climate change is a hoax perpetuated by China. Also, Trump's chief environmental regulator/adviser is someone that literally doesn't believe in any regulations to protect the environment.

What the fuck do better terms even look like in a deal like this? Pollute the air more? They can all fuck off. I hope they rest easy when it's all said and done knowing that they've damned their children.

disregarding this is dooming the planet, this is also the end of US hegemony.

like literally nobody will ever look to the US for leadership. Bush fucked up but Obama worked hard to fix it. Trump proved that more Bushs and Trumps are more likely that not. We will not have another American century. China and other nations will lead it.

America first president single handly ends the American empire

A special, heartfelt "fuck you" to the disinformation campaign by the Green Party during 2016.

You are fucking monsters.

The biggest effect this will have is ruining America's standing in the global community, which Bannon is probably thrilled with.

Renewable energy is happening whether the GOP likes it or not, because it is becoming financially viable.

Most likely the base cost of pledging money for countries that are going to have to deal with climate damages. Basically compensation for our years of causing this issue.

At least, that's the only thing I can think of, but I have no idea.

However iirc, those base pledges were moved out of the 2015 negotiations and pushed to the next round.

What a disaster. I still remain hopeful that this will only push the rest of the world even furtrhwr down the path of reducing green house emissions. Maybe the worlds shared hatred of Trump could lead to something good. Incredibly wishful thinking I know.

Get out and vote millennials. 2018 is where we start to take back our country.

Isn't 2018 tilted in favor of republican incumbents? No doubt Democrats will make gains, but I don't know if they'll retake control.

Regardless, we need more than just mid-terms. People need to be ready to vote in 2020 too, and we need the strongest Demcrat candidate we can get (no not Bernie or Biden, they'll be too old).
