The response of elected Republicans and their supporters is very concerning. I am not an expert, but spent a year studying how mass sectarian violence occurs within nations. Polarization where the two sides are incapable of speaking with each other is an early but important step leading to sectarian violence.
Watch Republican media for narratives that cast liberals as non-human or subhuman. That's the more important next step. If you see such language become widespread, I would consider taking advantage of your crazy gun laws and arm yourself. I am frightened of what is happening in your country.
