I never played persona or the SMT games. My JRPG experience is FF7-15, and some of the dreamcast RPGs that came out but I really like the genre. This game with its crazy reviews and some innovative looking ideas seems like I'd enjoy it.

My problem is I really can't get into the whole waifu anime bullshit thing. I recoil at some of the threads on this forum. It's just so juvenile to me. Not trying to start a fight I just can't be bothered with it. I never got a vita mainly due to the threads on this forum. I was all ready to get P5 and then I saw a waifu threadfor it- and I'm having second thoughts. How embarrassing is this game? Will I have to go on dates with anime cliches in it? Is there typical anime cleavage fan service going on (more than just some revealing outfit?)

I really want to like this game and anime in general doesn't phase me just the fandom stuff is not my thing.

It's pretty much just a load of crap just so people can voice their favorites they chose the first time.

There is romance if you want to look for it. I found my time with the doctor worthwhile. She was obviously into the MC, but still had her doubts if it would work. It felt like a mature relationship, for a videogame at least.

Studying just helps get your knowledge up which then improves performance. Since tests are based on your answers given and level of knowledge.

I saw the harem scene on YouTube, and I don't know what the faithful scene with Haru is like or infact I don't know how interactions with Haru is like when in a relationship. Mine was with Tae and it was so good and mature.

I'm fairly certain that it's considered the worst Persona game, partially, because of how it mishandled relationships. Don't drop the series because of it. P3 and P4 aren't as divisive from what I've seen. Even oldschool Persona fans seem to hate P5. So you aren't out of the mold so to speak. Try out the classic Personas (P3 and P4) and if possible, try out SMT3. These are the franchise classics. Don't drop the franchise because of one game that is seemingly considered bad, by the fanbase.

Where have you been looking? Most people are saying it's an improvement over previous games.

The overall consensus is that the game takes some good strides in some places with the topics it tackles, but fumbles in others (the questionable comic relief gay scenes, the teacher social link, ann fanservice etc). I don't think anyone is saying the game is awful because of it, though.

It's one of those things where it feels like there's actually less Anime tropes than previous games, but that's what makes cringey moments stand out more.

Overall, the game is stellar. You just get a lot of complaints about the same few scenes because they really really stick out.

I thought P5 was wildly considered the best and the one to put the series on the map on a bigger scale since it's designs are more varied. Golden started it but this was the coming out party for the series.

Agreed. P5's gameplay and level design is on another level compared to the others I've played. (P4G and P3P) They brought out their A game for everything and it shows--it's far and away my favourite of the three. (So far, not done yet!)

The only disappointing aspect is the localisation, which is consistently "serviceable" rather than good or great. (And to be clear, I don't consider it BAD. It's not incomprehensible or mistranslated AFAIK, just bland.) Both of the others had much better localisations.

Yeah, the relationship with Tae is so good. She doesn't break character and becomes super lovey dovey or something. Definitely a step up from P4.

Are you before August? You won't be able to level up with Souji until after the 4th palace. Some confidants still have blocks in terms of story progression, mementos quests, and social stats.

Edit: I forget if it's rank 4 or 5 that has the block, but that might be the cause anyway.

I'm in either June or July, can't remember. I just cleared the 3rd palace.

Is there any other sign that the story / memento /stat is blocking progress? Does the game say anything other than than the generic "you feel your bond will not grow soon"?

I just ran into this for the first time. It says, "You feel your bond will deepen soon, but..."

The "but" means I don't have the stat requirement to actually do it yet.
