Hum... he wasn't talking about P3 only. He is mentionning other games that indeed Atlus step up its game in them (gameplay, exploration). If you never played these games, no you can't argue wit his examples... Because, yes, I played EO serie and oh god they're fucking deep and good in term of gameplay. I didn't played yet SMT but EO is for me the master of turn based rpgs.

I've played almost every single MegaTen game in English. The only games I have in Persona to compare 5 with all have weaker dungeon designs (those being P1, P2: IS, P2: EP, P3 and P4). I enjoy them all for various reasons, some more than others (aside from P3's dungeon, which I dislike greatly). I could argue that P1's dungeons are actually kind of underrated, P2's are rather forgettable aside from the nice music and P4's dungeon designs are decent but again random generated. I can't wrap my head around anybody arguing that P5 has "weak" dungeon designs in comparison to those but okay, whatever. Opinions and all that.

EDIT: I agree with Cindi's opinion that mainline SMT has the best dungeon designs that Atlus put out, but P5 is still a great step towards getting closer to SMT's.

Ah, if you enjoy EO, you should get Deep Strange Journey (enhanced port of Strange Journey) when it comes out since it's got similar first person dungeon crawling. Soul Hackers is great on the interim, if that pleases (it's old school as hell, though, so be forewarned). I mean, there's also SMT games on PSN if you have a PS3, they're all classics.

You're being unnecessarily dismissive.
Again, you started it with your broad strokes comment "suggesting that this is GOTY material is laughable". Is that not extremely dismissive ?

As someone who is in NG+ and has put in 100+ hours all I can say is that majority of the problems you are encountering are artificial because of your own choices. And you should play the game more before passing down comments like that where you are looking down on other people's opinion while having played like 1/8th of what the game has to offer. The opinions you dismissed were made by people who are much further than you and have experienced much more of what the game has to offer.

Now I'm just seeing comments about thoughts on the game itself and not about what's happening in the game anymore. Are you guys all done the game already? LOL I wish I had that time to just play this game non-stop. I'm kinda jealous...

I finished it exactly a week after release day with 94 hours played.

Yeah... I made time for this game and played it pretty much non-stop outside of life obligations. Do I regret it?

No, it was one of the most entertaining weeks of my life.

Funny. I'm tired of fighting Incubus' and Pixie's 20 hours into P5...

Reading your opinion makes me realize that I enjoyed P3 and P4 in spite of the design/dungeons. I never enjoyed the dungeon parts and got through them as quickly (as in real time spent) as possible because I really didn't think they were that great. Here I finish them in them quickly (in game time spent) so I can see more of the social links., but spend more real world time taking them in. Maybe Atlus streamlined it too much? I'm loving it though.

This game has hooked me like neither 3 or 4 did, despite me preferring the stories of both those games The story in 5 is still good, but the dungeon design and how the story/real world is more directly integrated in the dungeons in P5 has really made me enjoy the overall experience more. I feel just as restricted as P4, which isn't a bad thing. I mean you're still looking at the formula:

- Case/target exposition
- Dungeon/palace exploration/social life balance
- Case/target resolution
- Free time, maybe some special (forced) 1 on 1 social stuff, some forced school trips/Golden Week etc.
- Repeat

That feels like P4 to me, so I guess I can't relate to the feeling there.

Regardless, I definitely understand why you'd be disappointed/angry with the game based on your feelings there. I'd be pissed too considering all the hype that's surrounding it, hopefully your impressions change if you manage to get through it.

OMG I felt so bad saying we were good friends, she was absolutely crushed. I thought she would at least put up a brave face but the scene literally ended with her facing away and slouching, never have I felt like such a piece of shit lmao

I honestly found it to be way better than P4G.

Really? P4G had some dumb but rather innofensive fan-service moments while P5 is actively insulting in regards to certain NPCs. And the way Ann is treated half the time is in complete opposition with the theme of the game and her story-arc.

I know plenty of folks who would say Kanji and Naoto were actively insulting, and I'd argue giant, vast swaths of Persona 4 are in direct opposition to its central "reach out to the truth" theme.

Hard disagree on mainline SMT having better dungeon design than P5. If we were talking EO then absolutely, but SMT's dungeon design has always been standard.

When does Persona 5 get good? The gameplay is putting me to sleep. As an SMT vet this is the most boring SMT game I've ever played. Persona 3 is what I consider my personal favorite RPG. It wasn't perfect, and I've played far better RPGs (even better SMT games) but it just hit all the right buttons for me. Persona 5 is in every way a step back so far besides story and characters. Suggesting that it's game of the year potential, much less one of the best Persona games is laughable. The gameplay is atrocious to me so far, and has completely rid itself of what made previous Persona's (both old and new type) so endeari-shouldn't you be getting to bed? We don't have time for that.

'besides story and characters'?! see, for me, the game's as good as or better than p3/p4, except for exactly those 2 things. as in, story? what story? :) ...

Hopefully the guy in charge realized that the suggested title is utter shit and he's currently deciding the new one amongst the much superior suggestions given a few pages ago

What's the shit title, "go to bed inmate"? What does everybody want instead?

Saying P5 doesn't have a story is as ridiculous as opening a book and saying it doesn't have a story. P5 is like 75% text

Ann's pose when she gets knockdown is hilariously stupid. I'm not bothered by the maid thing (it's dumb but I expect nothing less from Japan)

Also why can't I advance the Ryuji SL? Hurry the fuck up dude.

The title he's likely referring to is "Among Thieves"

It isn't bad, but it's quite bland now that we're all playing and have a bunch of hilarious references we can make here.

Kanji and Naoto were handled awkwardly at times, sure. But at least they were real characters with motivations and depth, not random NPCs just there to be mocked. Not sure what you mean about the theme.

My man Akechi! Dude try to fuck us early but is coming around.

Also, it feels like it's been forever since I had a free evening to do anything. Definitely more restrictive when it comes to available time. Kind of wish things didn't just move along so quickly in certain parts of the game.

Apparently the title is going to be "Amongst Thieves", i was exaggerating on purpose with the "utter shit" part but the various Morgana references are all better and more suited.

Do all mementos requests come from confidant or do we have to discover requests as well. Heard working at stores get requests but not sure if I need to be informed by a character that I should work there.

if there is one thing that is keeping the game for being my GOTY so far this year right now (it might still end up being mind you) is I think that every time the "story takes over", aka you lose all control over what to do and just spend day after day watching cutscenes, it really hurts the pace. It happened big time in May and just happened again in July.

People say its a balance thing or whatever but it just annoys me and I wish you could do something... anything during those days too.

And it will happen again soon. I didn't particularly mind because i like the characters and the situations but i can easily see why that would be off putting for many people.

I both like and dislike it. Like it because I am interested and engaged with where the story is going, but at the same time sometimes I realize that damn, it's just been endless talking...
Yup, agreed.

Some memento requests get unlocked by working at your part-time jobs. Like you'll have Mishima give you the request, then you read it, and maybe it'll tell you to find more information at the school gate, or your job at the convenience store. You have to do that in order to get the name of the person.

Note that I didn't really enjoy any other SMT games

I'm more at the point where I appreciate the break from having to decide what to do twice a day.

its particularly noticiable because, well, it doesnt let you do what the game is best at. The day to day relationship and activity juggle is by far the best thing about this game (the series?) and when it snatches that away from you, its jarring.

Still loving it tho :3

Pacing and handholding hurted me pretty bad during the 25h hour of intro. I got used by it but still dislike it and worse
even with so much time they were able to execute poorly some story stuff, which pissed me off more.
It's a good game but because of these I can't consider it as great game.

OT2 has to be a variation of "Shut up and go to sleep."
I vote for that!

That's what I thought. So need to wait on Mishima before I bother working. On new game plus and think I will probably get the majority of missed trophies and manage maxing all confidants rank but will probably need a third playthrough if I want the platinum. Not using any guide hence not the smoothest run.

I think Kanji and Naoto being such major focuses makes it worse than the two NPCs. Like, P5 is a 100 hour game and these two NPCs show up for all of two minutes of total screentime. P4 spends half the game dancing around whether Kanji is gay, complete with Yosuke implying Kanji's going to rape him and constantly talking shit. I think that's way more egregious than some thirty-second gag bit that falls on its face.

I could write a whole essay about how I think P4 is super hypocritical about its main theme, but a lot of it could be summed up with "it's a game about facing the real world and harsh realities that's also an escapist harem simulator where you can pretend to live in an ideal Japanese high school and be the most popular dude in the world where everyone wants to suck your dick."

Maxing all S Links is pretty easy without a guide if you have max stats.
