Really bummed it won't be on Netflix in my area. It's not super well-known here (Netherlands), but I'm pretty sure it aired here in the late 90s/early 2000s. I've definitely seen multiple episodes of this, years before it was easy to share full shows online like that.

I'm guessing part of the reason is that they'd have to secure the international rights not just for Mystery Science Theater but also all the movies they're using within it? That stuff can get messy fast.

Still, I hope it's successful enough to make the jump to other areas at some point. Do me a solid Gaf, watch every episode 7 times.

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I'd be willing to gift you my downloads. I won't need them.

I can check.

That would be great, but don't feel pressured or anything. Only if you're super sure you don't want them and if it's fine with however the kickstarter was set up.

Thanks for even offering it of course. Love this goofy stuff.

Has Netflix ever removed an original program? If not, I should be good.

I think if it is truly a big enough deal to potentially not get more seasons, and that's just not a tactic to discourage pirating, it would be better to find a compromise, delay the backer access to the day of or a few hours before the Netflix premiere.
I think things are a compromise to Netflix as-is. Backers put up so much more money than Joel said was necessary to produce the entire season that they made the season longer. And still, we only get it a few days before this later-attached distributor who wouldn't fund the season on their own.

It's the old adage that people who pirate it weren't going to be lured into a Netflix sub anyways. The same trackers that may have the show uploaded now (or sometime this week) would have it on Friday anyways after it drops on Netflix.

This show has a pretty tight knit fanbase and the backers have been made aware more than once that they should watch it on Netflix if they'd like to see the show continue. I think Joel went into the project with enough money that this season was a pretty low risk proposition for Netflix, I could definitely see them gambling on another season or two even if the Kickstarter situation might lead to a little more piracy a few days earlier than usual.

Info was on total lockdown after the live premier. I have faith in MSTies.

Same here, I was pretty impressed other than the situation with the extra tickets. Something else to keep in mind, the Kickstarter itself funded many initial one time costs for this show, now that it's off the ground it should be (relatively) cheap to produce further episodes, at least compared to this season. I'm sure that's attractive to Netflix as well.

It's absolutely true the show is going to get pirated regardless, but in this specific instance, if it gets pirated before the premiere, there is only the backers to point fingers at, rather than just the usual anonymous pirates.

I was at the LA premiere, met a ton of great people who I don't think would ever leak anything, and I think that's true of the majority of the show's fans. Hopefully if there is pirating, it's a small amount, and Netflix ultimately won't care.

It would just majorly suck for it to be our fault if something did happen.

Up to episode 6 and the rapid fire jokes has gotten a little better, but I still think it's something they need to work on.

Strangest thing about the new show: How many names are in the credits now. It's like a real show, with a real crew now.

Speaking of breathing, I nearly asphyxiated during 1105 due to excessive, uncontrollable laughter.

(1102 reference):
Well, they do say these things pick up around the fifth episode...

Just got through watching 1102, as you can probably guess. I think the movie is a phenomenal choice, it's just got so much in there to work with. And - as a Brit - a reference I wasn't expecting in the slightest.

(God, I can't wait to gush in detail!)

Over the two episodes I've seen I've found two BLANKy McBLANKerface entries thus far, and there may be more. I bet they all thought they were original!

(Also, I found someone listed twice, I'm curious if that's an error, someone who backed twice somehow, or a coincidence with two people with identical names)

Edit: Over on Reddit, someone's produced a table of the range for each episode so you can know in advance where your name is. I'll be 1109, it seems

I saw multiple same names on the list. Unavoidable I'm sure.

I really regret not including my wife's name. I didn't know you could do that until after they already put the list together.

Jack Flack always escapes!
After watching 1102 I must agree that it's amazing. The film is completely insane in a good way. it reminds me of Jack Frost in a lot of ways, only it had a more surreal insane-ness to it than the in-your-face insanity of the Russo-Finnish movies. Both 1101 and 1102 had riffs about
Pink Floyd album covers and they both really called for it too!

I'm gonna be skipping to 1106 for
Hasslehoff
but I'll go back and watch the others on Netflix.

So, in 1103, the whole
Android manufacture riff, starting from the eyeballs all the way till when dialogue starts again
had me in *tears* I was laughing so hard. 1102 was also really good.

Guys, I think this might actually be as good as we'd hoped for.

(Also, totally agree with the headphones helping to ID voices. Totally not having that issue watching the episodes on my desktop with headphones, versus the VHX app chromecasted to my TV)

I legit did not realize that
Hasslehoff
wasn't playing
Akton
until
Simon
appeared later on in the movie. And even then, for a minute there, I wasn't sure if they didn't just cast the same actor in a different role.

Oh my god, you guys. Your minds will be absolutely fucking blown when you get to 1107.

This season is SO FUCKING GOOD. I can't believe this is the first season for these guys. We absolutely NEED a second season.

And, another non-spoiler: You will 100% want to watch these IN ORDER. Skipping around is not recommended. Some of the jokes will not make sense if you skip around, similar to the cable version.

Watched e3 last night. Even better than 2.

"...shot and completed on film" and holy hell they referenced Hot Fuzz.

Can't wait to watch more.

I finished the 2nd episode, and I thought it was way better than the 1st. Not to say I didn't enjoy the first, but I found myself laughing a whole lot more.

Really liked the second episode, my favorite kind of movie for MST3K. Excited to see the widespread reaction for the entire series. Nitpickers on MST3KInfo are seemingly into it on the whole.

edit: Gotta say Servo's delivery is good most of the time, but the way he ends some lines/riffs sometimes is distracting. Trails off kinda breathy and mumbly(?)

Yeah, even before the Kickstarter backers there's a ton of people. Very different than like 15 people listed 1-3 times each.

I saw that too. It was something like "Brian Smith" that seemed composed of common enough parts to be a coincidence. But those Brians need to learn about middle initials.

Four episodes in, I still think it's just about perfect. Very funny, cast is great, quips are great, great choice in movies, and even the sketches hit the tone I was hoping for. Best kickstarter result while also best return of a beloved series. Funniest joke for me so far was actually a visual gag in
Avalanche... you'll know when it happens. o_o o_o

Do you use the Opera web browser? If this is against the rules, let me know, but if you use the Opera web browser, you could use the VPN option in a private window to access the US netflix from Netherlands.

I took a trip to Japan a couple weeks ago. Before going to bed, I put on Amazon Prime video, but realized I couldn't access the video I wanted because it "wasn't available in my region". I logged in using the VPN option in Opera web browser, set it to US, and I was able to watch the movie.

edit:

Also, watching the first episode now! I'm really digging it so far, but I hope they elaborate on why Crow and Servo are up there with him.

Reading Joel's Twitter I wouldn't expect much. Don't know why a throwaway line about spare parts or something isn't possible.

I'm five episodes in. This has been pretty spectacular so far. I might even go as far as say the quality has been more consistent than the original series.
