Is there any truth to the games skipping while playing off the harddrive?

Guess it's between the Maxtor and the WD. Both are basically the same price and don't require an external power source.

My PS PRO has arrived ! I have to say i am surprised how quiet the console is, playing ROTTR right now and i can barely hear it.

Does anyone have a Sony headset their use with their Pro and do any of you put the dongle in the rear USB port?

I tried that but I was wary about it being right by the vent and after I had it plugged in for a few minutes the metal of the dongle was very hot.

I had a flash drive back there for 10 minutes and it was the same. Bad design. I wouldn't leave anything back there.

I imagine it's fine for just a cord, like to an external HDD, but yeah I wouldn't put anything with a chip back there. Felt hot enough to meld solder eventually.

I love mine myself but mine is not quite and has never been.It seems that any game that uses a resolution Above 1080p makes the fans spin faster and theres a high patch sound that can get annoying.

Once you're done though, the "delete download shuffle" is a thing of the past. It's great.

It's amazing. I felt like playing The Old Blood and bam just started it. No "oh god it's 50gb's"

Still got quite of a lot of updates and DLC left to download.

Since I retired my OG PS4 I've had a bit of time to setup my new Pro and it's alright. Took a good while to get everything downloaded but the worst is over now. When I'm ready, I think FF15 will be the first game I try that is supported in some form, however I'm still on a 1080p TV so I'm not expecting much of a difference visually. I am interested to see what boost mode can do for me with other unsupported games, but again, my hopes aren't high.

I'm still not convinced this is going to benefit me like it would others, but for the time being it's future proof and letting me play without issue.

The benefit of FFXV is that you can fun in lite mode instead and get a nice frame rate, which is instantly noticeable.

I like my Pro.

The noise has never been noticeable to me - my TV/PS4 are like 8' from the couch if that makes any difference.

Most importantly for a console though, I like the software. Stuff like KH 1.5+2.5, Yakuza 0, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5 are the types of Japanese games I mostly want on my consoles.

Looking into upgrading...but a thought occurs. My current TV only goes up to 720p, it was only $100 when I bought it.

Would it even be worth getting a pro? I'm sick of doing the delete download shuffle and I understand it makes some games play at a higher framerate.

You know all Ps4 support external HDD right??

Dont buy a pro for a 720p TV!!!

Buy a better TV for christs sakes.

I'd spend the money on a 1080p tv for your regular PS4 ;)

Buy an external hard drive.

Edit* In other words, ditto to what the person above me said.

Buy a good TV instead

buy a better tv. what the hell are you doing. you can get decent 4k tvs for $300-400 now. buy those first.

the difference in framerates is minimal. downsampling is great, but at 720p and whatever shit colors your tv support you might as well be playing on the 3ds screen.

Should I install an SSD to my ps4 pro?

I think it's worth it for the significant improvement in load times (check my post history for my benchmarks). I prefer having ten games installed with improved load times versus having 80 games installed. 200$ Canadian got me 50% more storage space and cut my load times by ~40% (from memory, real number in my benchmark post).

Question about external hard drives (this seemed the best place). I have to format a External HD for the PS4 right? After that can I also put stuff from my laptop on it? Cos I'd like to clear some space from that as well

No. It can only be used on the PS4.

^Still waiting for games I want to be announced before the Scorpio becomes desirable. I don't have a 4k TV so not expecting it to look dramatically better than the Pro for multiplats.

Now that a lot more about Scorpio is finally known, I'm curious:

Does that solidify your choice to get a PS4 Pro?

The Scorpio looks great, and I really hope it breathes some life back into the Xbox brand. That said...it's not amazing enough to make me choose it over a Pro, especially considering how heavily invested I am in the PS4 already. Plus Microsoft hasn't exactly inspired confidence in it's exclusives the past year or so...if they have a really spectacular E3 showing I'll reconsider...until such time however, I'm still getting a Pro.

...after I get a better TV so GAF doesn't lynch me.

Okay thanks

I think decreased loading times are worth it for the money

Drat, well in that case I'll go for 3tb instead of 4tb

Heavily invested in PS4. Plus a lot of gaming friends, rl friends and having more games I am interested in such as jrpgs in general. Microsoft will have to win me over at the start of the next generation.

If I don't get new games that interest me... no reason to get a new console. I couldn't trade my Pro because of games coming are way more important to me than a new console. I'll get multiplatforms that run worst but they'll be far from ugly or broken.

Right now, the only reason to get a Scorpio for me would be native 4K for multiplatform games but I'm not sure if I want to spend that much money.

In the end, it's all about games.

Edit: Right now it's even more likely for me to get a Switch (not until it has more games) than a Scorpio but we'll see, there's still much to reveal about the console.

I'm on the fence. I was hoping for a larger push for 60fps, but with another Jaguar iteration that dream is unlikely. If the DF guys are true when they say that CB rendering is nearly indiscernible from a distance of a couple of feet or more away from the display, the Pro may hold me over until I decide to upgrade my PC. Improved textures and better AF may not be enough for me to invest in another console.

The real appeal is the instant upgrade to existing titles. I'll wait for some more analysis videos/comparisons and may jump in just to compare the two consoles myself.

Yep got a Pro three days ago and it's much quieter.

The other day I heard mine for maybe the third time since I got it (launch). The fan was about as audible as my launch PS4 after a few hours of play for about 1-2 minutes before cycling back down.

The improved wifi and the fact that it's so much more quiet than my launch model justify the purchase for me, although I see myself buying multiplatform games on XB1 once I buy a Scorpio at launch and using the PS4 Pro as an exclusives machine.

My pro doesn't have a logo light wtf

About Scorpio: It's better, yeah, but as I said before, better Scorpio patches will make for better Pro patches. And hopefully Sony starts updating Pro's firmware to close the gap in downsampling, anisotropic filtering and, why not, Ram usage/CPU. The first 2 are more viable of course.

Forgot to say, after the latest 4.0 firmware, my PS4Pro isn't quite as loud as it used to be. It still gets fairly loud, but it sounds more like 80% instead of 110% fan usage now.

I know no one can really know the answer to this...

But how silly do you all think it would be to jump in and get a PS4 Pro now versus waiting on e3 and potential savings? Torn between picking one up tomorrow or waiting out the two months lol.

Personally I think Pro is already an incredible value at $399 and if it's within your budget there's no reason to wait, E3 is still a bit away and there are so many games to play NOW! :)

I don't expect a price cut at E3. It could make it till November at $399.

Do you have a Ps4 already( vanilla or slim)? Pro has been on the market for 6 months, if you can hold out a bit longer to see if Sony drops MSRP( which I feel they will in the fall), then wait. Though I have a feeling it will be a $50 drop at most( and possibly $299 holiday 2017 deals). So its completely up to you whether you want to experience the Pro now, or wait X amount of months to save X amount of dollars( both unknown at this time).

I really wish they released a white PS4 Pro, only reason I haven´t bought one yet.

Nothing announced for Asia or Europe, right? Usually they get different colors first.

Appreciate the thoughts!

I don't own a PS4 atm. Have a Wii U, Xbox One and Xbox One S. Unloading my original One today to put towards either a Pro or Scorpio. I'm also thinking it will be a $50 price cut at best if Sony does anything for E3, since the system still seems to be selling very well, and it's not like Scoprio is actually launching come E3. Holiday might see better deals like you said but I'll be picking up a Scorpio then so don't want to buy those back to back.

I'll probably jump in now-ish and get started on Horizon. Will report back.
