And honestly, if there's one thing I want from, Disney/Marvel right now, it's the other thing that Fox is doing, especially with their TV properties, which is be willing to tell stories that don't directly tie in to the mainline continuity. Not everything needs to be a part of the cinematic universe, and we could get some really cool stories if they divorced themselves of the need to do that with every single Marvel property they put out (except Big Hero 6, which barely counts).

I absolutely agree, but it's gonna be real hard for Marvel to make that break since that continuity porn is a huge part of their hook. That's what they do

Although I think it says something that Guardians broke as hugely as it did, and Ragnarok will likely do big numbers as well. And I gotta think it's not just because of the fun-factor, but because they're removed from continuity. They're set off from the multi-part miniseries that is the rest of the slate and the phases. They get to just be movies on their own terms.

There's something to that.

If I'm them, I try it on TV first and see how it does (I mean, they're almost doing it as it is, as ABC Marvel and Netflix Marvel, while related within themselves, are barely related to each other or the movie MCU continuity outside of them saying that they all take place in the same place/time). Why not just do a show on Netflix that separates itself from the entire continuity altogether, and with it being on Netflix the risk is basically nothing.

It'll be canon (hell, technically the Guardians movies will be "canon" even though they don't really have shit to do with whatever's happening on Earth) but it probably won't have much of a direct effect on whatever's happening w/ Tony/Cap/T'Challa etc.

I'm kinda hoping that's how Runaways will shake out.

I loved the first 5 or 6 digests when I first read em.

In my dream/perfect world, we actually get Marvel making "What-If" movies and using the same actors to tell stories in entirely different ways. Ooh, like an anthology movie that tells 3 stories of how the MCU shakes out if this action changes (like, what if Tony's side wins the airport battle in Civil War, or what if they don't stop Ultron from uploading himself to Vision's body, or things like that).

Edit: Or some of the crazier Marvel one-off stories, like Marvel Zombies.

R rated movies are successful when they are good, well most of the time. That does not mean every super hero can be R rated and successful.

I might see Moonlight Monday if there's a showing near me, but I don't expect it to be the greatest movie ever made that's set in Miami.

I dont see how that works considering movie has 2 earth character like Hulk and Strange to Co-operate in movie and actions of this will literally cause Infinity War(Thanos will be in Thor right ?)

Logan was the fourth biggest March Opening and either the 5th or 6th (depending on actuals) biggest R Rated opening of all time

Does John Wick have a shot at 100M?

It's not impossible, but given the releases for the next 6 weeks, I doubt it keeps enough screens to do so.

I'd guess between $90-95M

China preferred aging mutants to toy superheroes.

Around $49M for Logan. $3.6M for Lego Batman.

Lego Batman is now at $257M worldwide.

Amazing hold for Get Out.

While everyone has been talking about Oscars for Logan. I would actually love to see a nomination for Get Out for best original screenplay. It's definitely one of the strongest screenplays for a film in years, since everything works multiple layers. Both with social commentary and character motivates in the flick.

Looks like Fox is 2-for-2 now on these R-rated X-Men movies doing better than expected.

Wonder if they're going to go all out with this now.

It's canon, but it's way across the galaxy doing its own thing.

While this is kinda/sorta true, we know both Hulk and Dr Strange are involved.

It's going to start on earth then move off it. I don't see how it's less connected to the MCU than the other two films were.

I want a Mangold X-23/Laura/Wolverine/whatever she'll call herself movie showing her as a 18-20 year old with flashbacks to
the kids' first weeks in Canada
. Then have Cable grab her out of time and put her in X-Force 1 or 2. :)

Finally we can realize that a great R movie will not hold it back for movies that need it.

I wonder if Marvel will ever consider one. The TV shows on netflix are already there

I don't think an MCU film would ever need it. I'm sure somebody could pitch a couple different ideas right now but I don't see them interested in telling a story in that vein right now.

For Fox, I hope they fully realize the first part instead of trying to think going for an R-rating is the way to go every time. R wouldn't have made Apocalypse appreciably better. The '90s film or whatever probably doesn't need to be R. It needs to be good.

Do not think that. Really heavy competition next week and the next again. Kong next week. And the week after Beauty & Beast.

Beauty & the Beast isn't really competition. Kong will overlap with its demo, definitely, but not only is B&B a couple weeks out still, but there are still going to be a lot of people who haven't seen the bleak western about the guy with knives in his hands by week three, and those people aren't gonna probably give it a pass for the sake of the Disney remake.

I think people were trying to say Get Out would probably take a hit because of Logan dropping this week, right? That didn't happen, either.

I still can't believe Kong is only expected to gross 40M on it's first weekend. That's horrible.

First trailer looked amazing. Every trailer after that showed a completely different tone and imo looked horrible. Not surprised.

I can't think of any of the MCU characters that would fit right in an R rated film honestly. It just doesn't fit the vein or tone of it. I don't want R ratings forced into films just for the sake of it.

The stuff that feels like it should be R, are being put on Netflix. I'm hoping that we are going to get a Ghost Rider series on there in the same "darker" vein that Daredevil / Punisher / Jessica Jones etc. have

Where does that put it on the top R-rated movie list?

The R rating matters less worldwide. Or rather not at all. Logan is the equivalent of PG-13 where I live.

Literally the only mainstream movie I've seen that had a stern "warning" was The Passion of The Christ.

Yeah, hopefully Universal has a solid campaign later this year and reminds the Academy that this movie shouldn't be overlooked simply because it released in February.

Yeah, it was 15 here in Sweden and the same day a new law went active that made it so that 11 year olds and up can see 15 rated movies if they have an adult with them.
