Oh and Elsa and Dinis lovely Christmas story including Zatanna

Fucking hell.

Everyday Magic and the 11 or so issues Dini wrote are all great, but not so much for the Matt Sturges and Adam Beechen issues. Honestly my favorite story from that whole run is a backup from issue 8 or 9 with a teenage Zee who just got braces, which apparently was by Beechen, hilarious.

If you want one long story, start at Volume 5 and carry on until Mass Hysteria. The earlier volumes are mostly more episodic stuff, they are referenced but it's not hard to follow or anything.

I loved The Ghostbusters Get Real as a Crisis-style story, and the Deviations (What If? IDW basically, which in this case is "What If The Ghostbusters Never Crossed the Streams?") is a fun read for a buck.

The new Venom ongoing seems surprisingly good. The whole vibe and writing of it feels distinctively like the Marvel Knights Spider-Man era which I was quite fond of.

I'm not sure how they can say that's an exclusive when that image is the last page of the first issue of The Visitor...

Haha I think you scooped them by a good few days man.

I really hope it's pointing towards Allie over Roberson as the new BPRD writer. I thoroughly enjoyed Abe Sapien as a series and while Roberson has a love for the lore, it feels like Allie is closer in sensibilities to Arcudi, and I really hope the strength of the characters remains at the forefront of the book. He's the only one credited in that ad without a book and he did mention awhile back he was working on something mignolaverse related.

Final lenticular cover of The Button crossover got released:

That issue in the background? I think it's The Flash #1.

Edit: Oh, the Flintstones, of course
Gwenpool

Unfollow

Edit2: Oh wait, are we talking specifically about books that look like Jem or Hellcat? I think I misunderstood the question

Either or

It being Alie makes total sense, like you said, he'd be a great fit.

That it is.

Read through Descender volume 2 this evening. Is anyone keeping up with the book? I enjoyed volume 1 but it was only really towards the end of the book, issues 5 and 6,where some plot revelations started to really pick up the pace. Vol 2 really cements the characters though, and it all comes together. The book really hits the ground running in fact, and the planet hopping nature of the story and the various groups of characters reminded me of Saga a bit. Really good, I'll definitely be checking out volume 3.

Oh, and funnily enough the way the plot moves to various planets did actually provide some more fantastical visuals that suited Nguyen a whole lot, after that comment I made on his art earlier.

Fuck me man, I can't remember the last time people were poring over a cover to try and parse what's going on. DC is doing something really cool and special.

Well the OGN is only 48 pages long. So it's basically 18 issues worth of content (Zatanna 1-16 and Everyday Magic). There are many DC trades of similar length for $30 or less.

Also Elsa's DC holiday special and DCs Infinite special. $2 an issue isn't bad I suppose.

Miles and Gwen make a surprisingly good pair. I feel like this crossover is good for both books, though I wasn't reading Spider-Gwen prior.

I haven't read any of her other books for comparison but Elektra had a decent start and I like her new costume. I can't really think of anything bad to say about the book, but it didn't really do anything super amazing either.

Uncanny Avengers continues to be a really good book.

The newest issue of Thunderbolts was a good start to this story and now I'm excited to see where the Masters of Evil arc goes.

Man, have any of you guys read Supergirl by Peter David and Gary Frank?

It's fantastic so far, and Frank's artwork was amazing even back in 1996.

I'll buy it at some point. It's just that, unfortunately, since the price is what it is, there will be other cheaper things I want that I'll have to get before I get that.

Spider's a big fan lol, he's been praising it forever. I read a few issues and liked it quite a bit. One of those series I'd like to read more of when I get the chance.

I read a lot of it but then stopped when Gary dropped off art duties. It just wasn't the same. I'll power through it one boring weekend.

Ah, that's a shame Gary went off of it before the run ended.

Edit: WOW, I didn't know he went off right after this trade volume. :'( :'( :'(

It will be $20 on IST. You are from the USA tight?

Yeah. What I mean is that I have a huge wishlist on IST of books I am wanting. I am often choosing the least expensive first because it's the most economic for my budget.

The only thing I'd be buying the Zatanna trade for is the #1-16, since I already have the other stuff. There are cheaper books I want to get first.

They photoshopped the smily face with the DC logo.

Partner ended up falling asleep early this evening so I sat and read Low volume 3 too. What a savage series haha. Literally every issue seems to end in a core character being fatally injured and left in an improbable to survive situation - and the thing is, he's built the series as such, you really believe that might be it for them every time.

Some of the thematic focus goes around in circles a little too much for me sometimes, but I do find it quite interesting at the same time. Is it an exploration of how important hope is for us to make things good around us, or is it an exploration of how irrelevant hope is to the situations that will come to us anyway. Remender surely will have tried every permutation by the end of the series haha.

As I say though, it is pretty compelling. I kind of forget Low when I think of favourite series and immediately assume Deadly Class is my favourite Remender book but it is damn good. It's always an exciting read anyway.

More MU reading, getting caught up with darth Vader and the mining planet arc was great, much better than the last Star Wars issue I read, the book just feels more star warsy whereas Star Wars seems too scattered.

Elektra seems like a downgrade from the last series so tradewaiting.

UA I skipped only because I'm saving money this week.
