Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
So, how much of the next BO thread will be the non regulars coming in calling Rogue One a bomb since it made a lot less than TFA?

I'll make the thread with a bomba header. It'll attract them!

It worked for last year until the thread was closed lol

The big "what went wrong?" Posts will come if Rogue One isnt at least Disney's second biggest film worldwide this year. Can you imagine a scenario where Star Wars ends up under Zootopia?

Kids film with talking animals beats Star Wars! Disney is doomed! They should scrap the spin-offs!

Actually Dory beats is DOM and Zootopia beats in WW just for kicks.

We won't get any update on Rogue Two for a couple years, and then it'll be quietly removed from Disney's release schedule. Gareth Edwards gonna do the Flash movie after the fallout with Disney.

There's gonna be a huge shakeup in Lucasfilm executives after this movie tanks followed by a big push for more light hearted movies.

I do wonder what Lucasfilm will do beyond the new trilogy and the Han Solo films.

  1. Ep 7
  2. Rogue One
  3. Ep. 8
  4. Han Solo
  5. Ep. 9

Then what? Do you do another semi-connected, alt genre story or another flashback films with a big named character? What does Disney do after Episode 9? Another trilogy in another era, or continue to mine Rey/Finn/Poe like Disney has mined Jack Sparrow?

That's what I want to know.

Easy. Remake 1-3. :3

This is like, the hardest thread to determine the successful employment of sarcasm.
Thank you. I think.

Assuming Rey and co. are still alive at the end of Episode 9, I cannot imagine them being left on the shelf permanently, unless the actors are tired of the parts.

They'll probably run 4 or 5 years of spinoffs that end up being interconnected (Marvel style) and then MAYBE 10-12 in the mainline saga after that break.

But I really do think that around the 60th or 65th anniversary, they're going to reboot the whole fuckin' thing. ALL of it.

Thank you. I try. ;)

were you joking or not

Strange has almost 650mill worldwide? Is that good for a Marvel origin movie that isnt Cap or Ironman? I honestly cant tell anymore with the superhero movies, it seems that if they don make 1 billion its a flop on the internet :p

Yes, it is. It's the second highest-grossing origin story behind Guardians of the Galaxy (Worldwide, mind you, though might want to adjust for inflation.)

Honestly, a good half decade of films in the same era, semi-connected? Could be damned good.

Well yeah. That's 20+ years away though.

There has been an unusual amount of vinny being right this year as well. Which I take to be the universe's way of paying him back for driving Divergent to made-for-TV films, and killing the dystopian future young adult genre.

Like Shailene Woodley killed the Divergent TV series?

In an ideal world, a new trilogy would start every 10 years. Build up demand and hype. Fill the gap with some spin offs and Marvel style TV shows (Netflix, Hulu, ABC, etc). My pitch would be something like:

2017 - Episode VIII
2018 - Hans Solo Anthology
2019 - Episode IX
2020 - Bobba Fett Anthology
2021 - 2028 - TV Shows and spin off movies
2029/2030 - Start of new trilogy

They will probably go for the money and release Episode X in 2021/2022 though.

Regarding your 2nd point, I'm rather curious if Disney actually CAN remake ANH without Fox's consent. Fox owns all distribution rights on that movie, and even refused to sell it back when Lucas bought the merchandise rights back. Fox is apparently not even willing to negotiate selling back the movie rights of a dead franchise like FF, so I can only imagine the exorbitant price they would ask for ANH remake.

Bolded the relevant. Distributions rights aren't content rights. Distribution rights means if they wanna put the film out on home video again, they have to get permission from/cut in Disney, and if Disney wants to release it on blu-ray or digital again, they gotta cut a deal with Fox.

But Disney can do whatever they want with the content. It's theirs. They can special edition again, they can remaster, they can revert back to the original, whatever they wanna do. It's only when they want to distribute it that Fox has to get their cut. Fox can't tell them what they can or can't do with their movie. They just get to release it.

Distribution rights aren't the same as content rights. Lucasfilm belongs to Disney. The film belongs to Lucasfilm.

If anything, Lucasfilm deciding to reboot the entire series allows them to completely sidestep Fox. You don't have to make a deal to sell Star Wars through them anymore when you've got your own Star Wars now.
