Xbox One S Thread: The S is for Sexy

so I haven't played a Halo game since the first one, and never played a GoW game.
got Halo 5 (which came with MCC), and GoW 4 (which came with GoW1+2+3) when I got my S last week cuz I feel like getting into shooters. which series should I dive into first?

Having never played any of the games before, I picked up copies of GOW 1-3 + Judgment and the Master Chief Collection when I got my Xbox on black friday. I just completed the first games in both series in the last couple of days having played a mission or so at a time, and I kinda found they complimented each other. Halo is a lot faster paced and kinda arcade'y, and Gears seeming slightly slower paced, also it helps that the reload button on each are the same.

I will big up the other series and say Halo. Other than a little stumble with Halo 4 the entire series is great. Make sure you buy Halo 3 ODST (£4 dlc for MCC) because it's really something special.

Really though, you should alternate Halo and GOW games so you don't get sick of either series.
Woah, I didn't know there was a ODST DLC, is co-op feature is there? Was the graphics enhanced?

I'm currently having trouble watching Netflix in 4K. My Xbox One S is set to 4K, and my connection speed meets the requirement. All of the 4K videos on Netflix though are only showing in regular HD. Not sure why.

Usually with 4k tv's you have to unlock the hdmi port the one S is plugged into in the tv menu to allow 4k display. Every brand is different but if you look deep enough you'll find it. After you unlock it there is a 4k test in the display settings on your one S to confirm this. Hope this helps you.

Set up my new Xbox One S yesterday, it's damn good lookin console, I love how simple the design is yet awesome at the same time, that grey colour too.

I'm giving the new controller a go to, I only ever had the Day One edition console and controller before buying the Elite and the new S controller seems to be a mix of the two.

Just tried BD play back for the first time and it was awful. Looks like there's some judder (looks like minor screen tearing) and outlines exhibit artifacting. Anyone else getting this? Power cycling didn't fix it.

Nice, just replaced mine with the Deep Blue gamestop bundle, and am loving it. The new controllers are fantastic, and I'm definitely loving the smaller footprint.

Where's the cheapest place to buy an Xbox one s where I can trade in an og PS4 for max value?

My day one Xbox finally died and it'll be 135 to repair.

I'm not sure how well this would look with a slim due to size, but yesterday I got a mousepad to replace my Razer Firefly. I now use the Firefly under my old X1. It looks pretty cool! The Firefly is just a little wider than the console. I can customize the colors if I have it plugged it into my computer. Currently it's a static green.

I only paid $25 for the Firefly and wouldn't recommend paying much more. It's just a mousepad and color customization is a bit limited.

This is the Firefly...

I am a new owner of an Xbox One S. I bought the 1gb Gears of War 4 bundle and I am supposed to get the collection as well. I heard I should be getting a message from MS with the code, is this true?

Loving the console and how snappy everything is.

Yes, keep an eye on your Xbox messages.

First tragedy, then farce.
Thanks again though.

Could anyone with the Netflix 4K plan check to see if the "ultra 4K HD" icon is showing for them? I called Netflix earlier this morning and they said that there is currently an issue with icon descriptions.

I absolutely get that logo.

I don't think HDR content runs in 4K though. So, the only 4K shows are non-HDR shows like the Get Down.

Not sure if this is a bug, or limitations of the S. I get both on UHD, so my guess is bug?

After a lot of work last night I set up my Xbox One S and 4K HDR TV.

I made sure everything was set up correctly on TV for HDR and same with console as far as I can tell.

I put on Mad Max: Fury Road as by the time Forza Horizon 3 was installed it would be today. Anyway it had an initial message saying it wasn't set up for HDR on the bluray screen before the title, yet when on there was a big difference. Does anyone else get these messages? Want to make sure all is OK.

I noticed an annoyance that the flames from the cars etc were quite saturated in colour, and looked almost cartoon like through my TV. I noticed in a review previously that it was one complaint of HDR. Does anyone else notice this?

Can't wait to check Forza Horizon 3 later.

Sorry, would you mind explaining what that is and where to get it?

Assuming you have the S and the new controller, you should be able to use the headphone jack cord that came with the gold and plug it into the new controller form the headset. won't be wireless but should work (might have to fiddle with volume settings).

The S controller is great, yeah. But the Elite Controller... once you try it, the standard one feels like a non original one.

Thanks again for the replies guys. Helps out. I guess it's something with the app on my console. My Xbox S can show 4K but the Netflix app doesn't want to. I read online that someone got Netflix to show in 4K by playing a 4K Blu-ray so I'm going to try that later on and see what happens. Very strange either way though.

Tried it yesterday on a friends new 4k HDR TV. Blu Ray played great on there. Was watching Alice through the looking glass along with some Disney movies. Noticed none of the problems you mentioned.

Are you paying for the 4K tier of netflix?

Need to move up to the Four Device, 4K enabled tier for a few bucks more.

Yep, I have the 4K Netflix plan.

Anyway, I know the issue now. My Yamaha receiver only has ONE HDCP 2.2 port.

My Xbox One S was in port 1. Should have been in port 4. This is annoying though since I also have a PS4 Pro. So now I'm also thinking about getting a new receiver due to this issue. So annoying.

A cheaper option might be a simple 2 or 3 port HDCP 2.2 Hdmi switch. Let both consoles share port 4.

Looks like I won't need an HDMI switch. All I did was just switch the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S HDMI cables around. The Last of Us still played in 4K (looks amazing) and now the Xbox apps are in 4K. I greatly prefer the Xbox One for media over the PS4 so the PS4 Pro not being able to show media apps in 4K is not a big deal to me at all -- couldn't care less.

So yeah, looks like I'm all set. Cool.

The only reason i bought an S. I wanted the PS4 Pro.
It's not like I regret getting Xbox One S, I get to play the Halo games that were not on PC, Play Anywhere is neat and I'm using family share with a friend. But I would have gotten a PS4 Pro because Scorpio is so far away.

Finally picked up a One S today as a Christmas gift. I am keeping and putting my other Xbox One in a spare room, I have a 4tb hard drive can I just switch between the two consoles without hassle? Do I need to change the primary console or is that done when setting up the Ones S? Thanks heaps the One S was a really nice pick up.

Just checked my Xbox Live Rewards account and saw that my 50,000 credits / $50.00-equiv deposit was made for upgrading from an Xbox One to an S model. Bought the S from the Microsoft Store on Black Friday, so it was $50 off and included a $25 gift card. So basically I got the S for $175 and prepaid for a AAA game. Seems pretty all right to me, considering I've already sold off the Battlefield One code it came with for $30 and I'll be offloading the original Xbox One in the B/S/T thread or eBay. Glad the Microsoft deals actually stacked the way I was expecting them too.

So, anyone have any fixes for certain apps that just won't install? I cannot for the life of me can get the blu ray app or hulu app to install. They just sit for a minute and eventually returns "Installation Stopped", I tried a hard reset and everything... every other app and game have installed and updated fine.

Couple of questions:

1. For display settings, the correct way to get blacks is setting the Xbox to RGB and the TV's black level to Low? (TV is an LG OLED E6, where the black level settings are Low and High)

2. Has anyone tried the X1 box from Comcast Xfinity with the Kinect? I'm wondering if I could possibly use the same voice controls of the X1's remote through the Kinect.

1, No. RGB should mean you set black to high. But there's no real benefit, especially if you watch media on the XBox as well as play games. Setting the xbox to standard and TV to low is the better choice (and the recommendation from the Xbox itself). Read this http://referencehometheater.com/2014/commentary/rgb-full-vs-limited/

2, Sorry can't help with this one.

So if I'm understanding that guide correctly, as it relates to PS4, it's better to pick the Limited setting instead of Auto for RGB?

Wife and I got our free kinect adapters today from Microsoft... Why two boxes and so many cables? Why didn't they just simplify it and make a single larger box? So weird

Yup. I would've liked to play Persona 5 but an entire console isn't worth it. I bought a One S for the UHD player alone.

I'm in a similar position: I just got $180 credit from Gamestop for my OG XB1. Having just bought the KS8000, I'm looking for a UHD player. Is the S legit?

I almost certainly won't pay $200+ for a stand-alone UHD player.

Hey XboxGAF I just decided to upgrade to the S and I was wondering if I can do a system transfer between my two consoles instead of having to reinstall everything again? I know my saves will transfer but I'd really rather not spend a few days just installing and downloading patches if I can avoid it.

Sorry if it's already been answered
