iOS Gaming November 2016 | Apple unbinds Isaac

Nice. gonna download

Do you guys game exclusively on iPads, or iPhones as well?

I have a 7 Plus and was considering looking into the gaming scene.

Depends. Even though a game like Hearthstone is on the phone, I used to play it only on iPad. But then for solitairica, i play on iPhone more than iPad. I Wish all games were universal so I had the option. For Steins;Gate, oyu need to pick 1 or buy both at 2x the cost without saving so I would recommend iPhone if you have a 7 Plus for that or iPad if smaller screen.

Downwell is best on iPhone imo. Same with the Dragon Quest ports.

Depends on the game really. Some play best on iPad, others feel better suited for iPhone

Microsoft has released their popular Solitaire Collection game, and its free!

You'll have access to the Premium edition till December 31. No ads, double XP and such.

Clearly one of this year's best releases on iOS.

I game almost exclusively on my iPhone 7. Its what I have with me all the time. Even my previous 5S was my go to gaming platform.

I have an older iPad Mini but that struggles just to run the OS.

Final Fantasy Tactics or Mercenaries Saga 2? Does either work with an MFI controller?

Have any iPhone suggestions for an open-minded person?
A few that I didn't see on the lists above:

You Must Build A Boat - Match 3 puzzle game.
Polytopia - Super stream lined Civ like 4x
Horizon Chase - Racing.. Old parallax racing game styling
Teeny Titans - Pokemonish game collect and level up Teen Titans figures, good fun light RPG.
Sproggiwood - IMHO the best roguelike on iOS

All of these are pay once, Polytopia has IAP to purchase new tribes, but they are unique and offer new gameplay, so not required, but with it if you purchase.

Final Fantasy Tactics, not even close. I'm very much enjoying Mercenaries Saga 2, but it's hard to beat the best Final Fantasy and one of the top games in the genre regardless of platform.

Rival Stars Football has been fun but boy the gatcha elements are way too aggressive by requiring repeats of a player to rank up that rise exponentially.

Can't say I'm the biggest fan of how the actual battles go. How are the touch controls and ui? Playable on a phone?

Hmm, not sure how playable it is on a phone since I've played on my iPad. The UI is not perfect but it's fine. What exactly is your problem with the battles?

Regarding Final Fantasy Tactics.

I played it long ago (i.e. before all the updates) on iPhone (maybe a 4 or 4S, can't remember) and personally had no problems whatsoever.
Actually I had a total blast and imho it's one of the best games ever made.
It's worthy for just the story alone.
I think I completed the main story in around 40-50 hours (Without the Midnight Dungeon, who took me other 10 hours or so).

It IS daunting sometimes with the job system and all, but it's really worthy so if you can play it, no matter the platform, do it.
And once you're sucked in the story after the first twists, it's damn hard playing anything else.

I still have nightmares about two particular battles I won't mention not to spoil anything.

The ending was utterly awesome.

All this reminds me it would be awesome to see Final Fantasy Ogre Tactics on iOS too.

I really don't understand why this isn't a thing yet. I keep refraining myself from buying on my Vita with hopes of an iOS release. If there's a sale for it in the PSN flash sale tomorrow, I'll cave.

I played it in the original PSX version and a bit on PSP, I tried this on iPad but I found controls a bit frustrating, because in the end the whole UI was intended to be played with a pad and while a lot of work has been done to make it decent enough, my memory is still too clunched to the original scheme to appreciate the new one, but I suppose that if you never played the original, this one is as good as it can be.

And btw, it is Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together!! Not FF Tactics Ogre :) Different games from different series, but if I remember well the team is partly the same. In any case the combat system is vastly different, but still so better and over the top of anything else that you really don't care. And Tactics Ogre story it is even darker than FFT one, and between the 2 games we could say that FFT is a real exception among the FF games, in particular in terms of story and themes, while TO has always been very dark. I mean, this is the best western-style fantasy made in Japan in videogames, period :)

I remember I asked back in the days and got cryptical answers between 'we are thinking about it' and 'it's a copyright nightmare'.
Nothing happened anyway :(

It would really really cool, I would pay a lot for it in iOS (possibly universal with iCloud sync this time).

Ah thanks for clarifying!!!
I mixed up the names!!!

Actually I know nothing about Tactics Ogre other that it was made by almost the same team and everyone I know mentioned it like a spiritual sequel to FFT (or told
me I would have liked it as much as I loved FFT).
I even like the graphics more, judging from screenshots.

Scandal it's not on iOS yet.

Like Tactics Ogre, It's more about how you prep for battles with strategic movement being more of an after thought. I still enjoy them inmensely on PSP.

Awesome, bought. Thanks everyone for the responses.

Does anyone know what the deal with the Microsoft Solitaire Collection is? It says 1 month of premium, I'd like to recommend this to my parents and in-laws, but what's it going to be like after 1 month. If it's full of adds and timers and currency they won't have any use for it. Can you pay a flat fee to remove ads or is it $25 a year for Solitaire? (Oops beat, lol)

Several more games on sale this morning. I noticed Dont Starve $1.99, Kingdom Rush Origins $.99, Riptide GP Renegade $.99. And a couple board games Forbidden Island $1.99, and Pandemic $2.99. Going to quintuple dip on Dont Starve, my kids love that one. Also both the board games look like great digital versions, so getting those too. Edit: wow I have to stop using apps hopper... Just checked app zap and there are a huge number of games on sale... Doorknockers, Out There is $.99 (if you doMy have this grab it), Danmaku Unlimited, Thomas was Alone, I am Bread and a ton more... Weeeee instant backlog.

Came to post that Rahman Classic is free, but looks like Ubisoft made it F2P with ads (not sure about other IAPs).

Hope those that paid $4.99 for it don't get them.

im looking for a good game that doesn't require a lot of actions/button presses..... So I can like sit and drink coffee but still engage my mind. Maybe something like a city builder? Or rpg with long cutscenes. I don't know.

I got beta access to Fugl and other games, although I really hope this one turns out well with some nice animalistic animations:

Desert Golfing. When you get to later holes, you might spend more time eyeing what your next shot will be, over actually taking strokes.

Can someone tell me what happened to Deus Ex GO: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/deus-ex-go/id1020481008?mt=8
Why it is renamed now? I am reading about microtransactions? What did they do exactly? Should i update or continue playing without updating?

Also Infinity Blade III is on sale for 0.99, should i buy it?

I think the in-apps were always there. Just puzzle solutions if you want to cheat.

They added the ability to create your own levels so maybe that's why they changed the name.

As for Infinity Blade III, it's the best of the series so, yeah, most definitely worth $.99 IMO.

Rival Stars Football has been fun but boy the gatcha elements are way too aggressive by requiring repeats of a player to rank up that rise exponentially.

Appreciate the feedback. RLan in the thread is on the dev team, so any comments in the thread are getting seen by default (though he is on vacation today).

As you can imagine there is a large challenge in balancing the content rarity/desirability, variability between player decks, obtainability, and commercial aspects so there is a lot of discussion that has happened and continues to happen around this.

What I can say, from the math behind it, is it seems a little daunting at first, but once you have been playing for a few weeks and the base collection of players has grown, the chance of getting duplicates in every free gacha necessarily goes up. At the point you've been playing a month as a free player, on average ~50% of the cards in every gacha draw will be dupes (and that percentage will continue to grow). Being personally both a player of this and Clash Royale (a game I'm thoroughly enjoying and spending an hour or so a day on), its actually easier in my opinion to level cards to their max potential in College Football (there much smaller set of cards notwithstanding).

Hope you can stick with it. We have another big update coming before Xmas.

AppZapper app for deals is the best one.

For news, you can check the usual toucharcade.com , pocketgamer.co.uk etc.

Opinions on Not a Clone? Supposed to be like WarioWare and is currently half off at $1.99.

----

Also wanted to highly recommend Super Cat Tales. It's excellent. Charming with a unique control system while still maintaining an overall classic platformer format. Also a fair F2P system with IAP for ad removal for $1.99, unlimited lives for $1.99 or a full unlock that includes some other things for $4.99.

Played Hop Swap. It's good but not my favorite Nitrome platformer (that would still be Gunbrick hands down).
