For the past month, all the celebrity magazines at my local groceries store have covers of Angelina with text reading "Angelina's lies exposed" and "Her twisted scheming to destroy Brad exposed", and I kept thinking "what is that shit?".

So what's that about? I guess I'll wait until a court renders a decision before making any judgement.

There's not. It's still in the investigation phase and it's only side of the story in a very contentious divorce battle.

Perhaps, you and myself... Come from a different ilk, and while I'm not against disciplining children, I'm not going to put my opinion on display to get blasted by anon. I will say, this I agree with you in a sense that this is a personal matter that definitely at this point shouldn't be anyone's business but theirs, these children didn't ask for this, and no one, no one should ever punch a child but no one should ever tell people how they need to raise their children so long as they are out of harms way. Abuse is not one smack, abuse is ongoing verbal, physical etc.

I never got slapped, none of my siblings did either. some people I know of might have been, but for most it never happened. it's illegal, like if a teacher sees a bruise or hear the kid got even just slapped they'll contact social services and you'll be in trouble. and rightly so.

Some people genuinely don't practice that form of punishment, why not just agree to disagree. People come from different cultures regarding how to discipline, there's no one specific way to do it.

depends, not all bruises are the same. here they will and are obliged to if they suspect abuse. and again, rightly so.

edit: maybe I should have made it clear that just any kind of bruise won't be cause for calling social services but if it's recurring or in a place that's unusual or something the kid feels great shame over or lies about then that would be enough cause to do an inverstigation.

I mean, it's the teachers job to use good judgement. Obviously a kid abused at home will behave differently in class than a kid that likes playing outside.

I don't know anyone who got smacked around either as a kid. I'm sure some people did, but it's still horrible and literally criminal parenting.

Whether teachers do or don't, they are told to look out for any signs of abuse and/or negligence and to escalate.

I volunteered to help some school kids out for an hour a week and had to go through a training course etc covering this.

(UK - but I assume it's similar in US and some other European countries at least)
